X-Men 2 takes everything the first one did wrong and either fixes or scraps it, and then takes everything the first one did right and makes it better! Now, I'm a huge fan of the first one, so I didn't really think there was much wrong with it, but X-Men 2 is so much better!
The action is very intense and fast-paced, and I also love the customization you can put into your heroes (or villains). This could have been the game's only flaw--you level up so often it becomes a distraction from the action. However the designers handle this by giving you the option of automating level-ups and power allocations, so if micro-management isn't your thing, feel free to just slug it out.
There are a great mix of characters to choose from, although in my opinion there is some imbalance to some of them, such as Scarlet Witch who has NO melee capabilities to speak of, and no way to develop them, or Nightcrawler, who while a cool character is very energy dependant but very slow to regenerate said energy. These are minor quibbles, however. Chances are you'll find a few favorites and stick with them. This is rewarded in fact, because if you switch characters too often, they won't level up very fast and you will doubtless find yourself outclassed at a key moment (unless you spend some time training them up in the Danger Room).
Another nice feature is the unlockable characters. Xavier, Deadpool, and best yet--the uber-hero IRON MAN (why uber, you ask? He has the best elements of all the characters--flying, tanking, melee, and blasting)!!! The PC version contains a couple of additional characters--Sabretooth and Pyro, however these are basically just re-skinned versions of Wolvering and Sunfire. I would recommend sticking with the console versions since the PC version is said to be buggy and controls are a little more difficult. The X-Box version has the cleanest graphics (naturally).
The single-player campaign is a bit short--probably about 25-30 hours to complete, but the replayability factor is huge. You'll want to hurry up and finish the game just so you can go back and replay it with a different set of characters. Also, the multiplayer is a nice touch to increase replayability, with a 4-person online co-op mode.
Overall, this a a fantastic game, and well worth the money for anyone who enjoys fast-paced action, RPG elements, and Marvel.
VERY FUN GAME!

This game is just awesome! I played and loved the first X-Men:Legends, and Rise of Apocalypse is even BETTER! The graphics are very cool. They really nailed the lighting in this game. So many more characters with even more awesome powers, and you get to play the villains!!
Just like X-Men:Legends, the multiplayer is very good because my friends can join and leave the game at any time. This is a great feature! In other games, once you start a multiplayer game, your friends must stick around all the time. I have not yet tried the new online multiplayer, but I imagine it is pretty good.
Another improvement is there are now difficulty levels.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME.

This is a great game, but the glitch is annoying! It tends to freeze up while in the Danger room and while changing characters. So save often!!!!!!!! I first wrote that it was the Xbox version that had the glitch, but I found out that it happens on all platforms. I also found out that if you keep your inventory low (Hero and item stash) then you can minimize the freeze-ups. (The key word here is minimize, it will still freeze.) Also, it's good to keep a back up saved game, just alternate saves. This way you won't get stuck losing hours of game play like I did. I was just starting Act 5 (the last act) when my game wouldn't load... and I had to start over... not happy. So save yourself some time and frustration by following this advice.
Great Fun Brawler!

This is a fun action game. I never played the first game so I don't know the difference between the two. This game is similar to the super popular arcade side scroller X-men game, back in the golden age of arcade days. However its now in full 3-D with bunch of extras. Extras like collecting money, items, abilities, etc... Pretty much the RPG aspect of this game. The action combat part is the main meat of the game. The action animation is better than I expected especially for a hack and slash game. The action animation has good details, slight fighting game feel with decent dynmatic, overall much better than Champions of Norrath and Baldur's gate. However its no Ninja Gaiden or God of War action. The camera system is great, you can pick between 3 distances and the camera is fully 360 degrees adjustable. This game is like a long arcade brawler with the RPG factors and extras for consoles.
You get to pick 4 mutants from a list of 15. THERE SHOULD BE MORE CHARACTERS! AT LEAST 25.... There are about 70 stages. The graphic is good not great, I like the cartoon style graphic. The stages are pretty, colorful and well detailed. One thing I didnt like is that when you pick up weapons, armors, etc.. and put it on the character they dont actually wear them, just math added to the stats. The 4 characters party system is great, it adds variety to the action, crowd effect, more mayhem and details.
Graphic:4.5 Music:4.0 Sound:4.5 Control:4.75 Fun:4.75
Overall this is an excellent action/combat/adventure slight rpg game.
The Empire Strikes Back for X-Men

This is a great game. It brings together INFERNO, THE AGE OF APOCALYPSE, THE BROOD, MAGNETO's GENOSHA SAGA & THE SAVAGE LAND all into one solid story consistent with the comics. The playability is just as dynamic and fun as X-Men Legends with more mutant powers and selections of skills. This even comes with more of a background cast including vindicator, heather hudson, Ka-Zar, Banshee (Aye Laddy!) Kitty Pryde etc. The enemies range from Mr. Sinister to Garokk to Karl Lykos.
The only thing about the game that has less quality than the game is the execution of the X-Treme power which is in some cases not as nice as X-Men legends 1.
This overall is a true continuation off of X-Men legends. A must-get for any X-Men fan. Aye LADDY!!!!
Too many problems with the game

I got half way through this game and then it froze up completely. It happened to me during the Archangel battle, and happens every time in that spot. I've even tried different disks (rented one and tried it in order to get past the problem spot), but it didn't help.
$50 down the drain.
I wash I could give it a review, because it is a terrific game -lots of fun. But if it doesn't work, why bother buying it!

This is a great multiplayer game. 4-p coop games are hard to find and this game really made the weekend gathering with my gaming buddies a lot of fun! There are a few little flaws but they are just minor annoyances, do little to take away from the fun.
Pros:
- easy to get into
- good graphics and very good music
- lots of playable and customizable characters
Cons:
- unintuitive menu system when it comes to multiplayer. some controller can be disabled, some can't. sometimes everyone can control the menu options, sometimes can't. etc.
- auto equip re-equips EVERYONE with the "best" equipments, as determined by the AI. if one player has auto equip option turned on, when he/she picks up an item, everyone was affected.
- gameplay is repetitive after a while.
- but repetitive gameplay is not a big factor because game is short, we beat the game in 1 full day+night.
LEGENDARY!

I never played the first game in the series but I like this one. The graphics are sharp, crisp with great colors and the game flows very nicely. The AI seems to be pretty good but I'm only on the first level. You can choose to have your fighters level up automatically or do it manually yourself. Four fighters are in a party and also you can customize your NPCs to how they react in battle. Have Cyclops and Storm stay back with range attacks and Wolverine and Juggernaut frontline attack. Have them heal or protect certain characters too.
Right off the back you (Xmen) join forces with the Brotherhood to fight the all powerful Apocalypse. Magneto, Mystique and Sabertooth are in your party in the beginning. The cutscenes are great and if you know alot about the X-Men/Marvel universe you will get a kick out of all the personality clashing that goes on. Pairing enemies together will always get that good chemistry going. LOL
From what I heard if you beat the game once you unlock Deadpool as a playable character. If you love action/RPGs I highly recommend this game.
Truly a Legend of a game

This sequel to the hit video game, X-Men Legends, is incredible. Not only do the game makers stick with the original gameplay set up of the first one but they improve on it as well. Making it easier to customize as well as give more choices for your team. Thus far I've reached Avalon in the Savage Land and I've not been disappointed yet. Along with the graphics, sound, and gameplay the storyline is intriguing and entertaining as well.
If anyone attempts to tell you that this game isn't worth the fifty bucks, know then that they're probably stuck back in the stone age with the SNES or Sega. Trust me, this game is an incredible buy so quit wasting time reading this and go buy it.
Game is very fun

I picked this game up one day so my friends and I could play it. Right from the start it was fun and there were a lot of characters to choose from. This game is one of the best multiplayer cooperative RPG games i have played so far. My friends and I have a lot of fun with it, and if you are into X-Men and are a comic book fan, then this is a must. The one point that didn't allow me to rate it a 5 star is that sometimes the game freezes and also, the game is very short. So make sure you save a lot on the way.
Have Fun!
