If I could give this game negative stars, I would

I picked this up as the first game I bought for my PSP which I bought shortly after Christmas this year. The first thing I noticed were the incredibly slow load times, but I took that with a grain of salt as with a poker game, I didn't really see it as a terrible detriment.

Then I discover the little feature called the bluff mini-game. Basically if you have either a very strong hand that you are slow playing or are bluffing with a weak hand, you have to play a mini-game where you use the analog stick to keep a cursor in an area or your player gives a "tell". I have no idea what moving a cursor around would have to do with your bluffing skills, but apparently they felt the need for more to the game and it is just awful.

Now, here is where the real big issue comes. I have reached week 9 I believe it is and in the tournament for this week my game continually freezes up on me. I have attempted to contact Crave Entertainment, the manufacturerers of the game, and have gotten zero response.

Crave put out a mediocre game that simply doesn't work properly and they've done nothing to fix it. I don't recommend this title to anyone and I personally will not purchase another game from this company.

Maybe A Good Game on PS 1

Big, chunky polygon graphics, long load times and long mid-game pauses in the "action," clumsy in-game navigation, very poorly designed mini-game, almost nothing good about this game. In fact, go on your PC and do a search for "free poker game" and you'll get a better game than this. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take so long to load and if there wasn't a long pause between deals, allowing the PSP to catch up (it's obviously thinking, but thinking about what I can't say. It's not like it's loading up any graphics.) There are plenty of video poker games, I'm sure any of them are better than this one. And for an extra annoying twist, you get "wisdom" from poker champ Howard Lederer. "Don't rub your eyes during a poker game, the chips can be dirty," (thanks mom, uh, Howard). How about this gem: "It's better to play weak players."

Slow gameplay and loading times

Horribly slow loading times and no feature to skip thru games you have folded on? Like watching paint dry at times. Althought there are some nice characters in the game ... the load times and poker basics have not been polished in this game.
I also bought WSOP and although it's not as flashy, the gameplay experience is much better. Do yourself a favor, ignore Howard ... He's bluffing, when he says this one's good.

Fairly Good Poker Game

This game is very hard to play. Very tough AI system. Howard Lederer, Annie Duke, Raymer just a few of the professionals you will play against. Tournaments last very long hours...and there is a problem there is no way to save the game during a tournament...thats a big bummer. Career mode offers quiet alot you can decorate your pad with all kinds of neat stuff. Take out loans for tournaments. And sell items from your pad if you really are desperate on funds. There is also like an rpg system so every so many games you win you get to improve your stats for instance here are the improvements you can make for your player, Keen Eyes-this skill makes it increasingly easier to notice the bluffs and tells of other players, Hand Strength-This will display your hand strength, Stare Down-This skill will allow you to force a player to play the bluff/tell game, Tough Read-This skill makes the mini game easier by slowing down the speed of the ring rotates, Stone Face-Each rank in this skill will make the poker face zone larger and decrease the chance of having to play the minigame with a weak hand, Actor-Each rank in this skill will make the bluff zone larger, Convincing- This skill decreases the amount of time you need to stay in the bluff or poker face zones. Also in career mode you have to create a player you can choose your skin tone, facial hair, hair style, clothing and accessories. All of which is pretty neat. Also when starting career mode you have to choose the type of player you are which is pretty neat cause when you win a hand depending on your character personality he will say different things for instance my character is sarcastic so he is always being a looney type of character. Also in career mode when you start off you start off with very little even if you were to get a loan the most of a loan you can take out is 10k to play with howard lederer you need at least 50k. Also to advance in weeks in career mode you have to complete a certain task for instance you might have to win 100$ in a poker game or get in 4th place to at least advance. Another thing each week you wont be able to always play your favorite game for instance im a big texas holdem player i didnt play anything else before i got this game. First few weeks in career mode i got by easy with texas holdem then i got to like week 3 and texas holdem wasnt avaiable that week and to advance i had to play in a seven card stud game. But if career isnt your liking you can always set up your own tournament threw quick game and you can set how many players you want in it and game of your choice. So this is a very good game the big downside that really hurts the game is no way to save the game during a tournament.
