Tony Hawk Killer

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 17 / 17
Date: October 03, 2007
Author: Amazon User

I've been a big fan of the Tony hawk games until the last one. I just got tired of the same game with a few boring additions added every year. So I decided to check this game out.

PROS
I have to say I'm impressed. The "flick it" system is a refreshing change to the way skating games are played. No more button mashing. I didn't think I would really care how the tricks were executed, but I was wrong. It takes a few minutes to get used to, but it's great when you get it down. Having to memorize 500 commands to do a trick is no longer necessary.

The graphics are excellent. There's no loading time no matter where you travel, unless you "jump" to certain points. It's pretty fun seeing how many different ways you can bail, too.

CONS
The create-a-skater is very limited. There isn't much you can do to change how your guy looks. You can tweak the face and hair all you want, but it ultimately ends ups looking like the same average homeboy regardless.

Story mode is a little thin. The challenges aren't that hard, and you have access to every move from the get-go.

SUMMARY
If you're looking for an in-depth skating game with a deep story mode, then don't get this game. If you want something closer to what real staking is like, this game is for you.

Amazing

I've played Tony Hawk games from the very first one and this game is on a completely different level. Since skating in video games started it's been flawed with the idea that pressing a but makes you ollie or grind. But this game is all in the joysticks. To ollie you simply flick the joystick. To grind you land on the rail, you don't press a button. It's very realistic in the sense that you're trying to become pro by making your own videos to get on to a skate team. I could go on but instead you should just buy it and enjoy it yourself.

I have Tony Hawk's Wastelands for PS 2. I've tried the demo for the new Tony Hawk game for the PS 3 and was not impressed. EA Skate is very different and very enjoyable. Cruising around the various parts of town has an almost Grand Theft Auto feel. The graphics are excellent and the action looks and feels very realistic.

Great game. I put it at #2 on my shelf of PS 3 games next to Oblivion.

Wow, this game is spectacular, i absolutely loved it and i cant stop playing. the replay value on this game is so high, u can just play it over and over and it never gets boring. the only ploblem i can see with it is that u can get off your bored and walk... other than that its beyond great. The game play is realistic and the controls perfect, u can see every detail of every trick. It makes me want to skate again

Super Fun Game, Better than Tony Hawk

First off let me say this game exceeds any Tony Hawk offering so far on the next-gen systems. skate is an amazingly complete experience. Those who enjoy the free nature of actual skating will get the most enjoyment from this game. Though the story is adequate you'll get the most from this game if you spend a good chunk of time simple exploring the city. The flickit controls, though confusing at first (for those of us used to pressing (x) to ollie), are extremely intuitive after getting used to them. Though there are a few technical issues that can become frustrating (curse you load times!), the end product is a blast.

Probably the best skateboarding game so far

This game has the graphics and unique ability to show a real skating environment. Yes, it is still a game and there are things that game will never be able to do like the real world. In my eyes I really thought they spent a lot of time talking to skateboarders to get the real gaps and rails those cities and towns have. Overall great game, but takes a while to get used to because it's not like any other skating game before. Reminds me of "thrasher skate and destroy" on PS1.

Best of the genre

This game has completely revolutionized the way skateboarding games will be made from now. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has been dominating the skateboarding video game scene since nearly 10 years ago. This is the first game to not only compete with the franchise, but to destroy it until it is willing to change and adapt to the future. Support multi-player and a great campaign mode. Highly recommended.

A Teenagers Delight

My teenage son and daughter have played this nonstop since receiving it for Christmas. The best of their gifts.
They both have said how realistic and challenging the game is. Told me it is 10 steps up from Tony Hawke games.

Skate Rocks

This game is really fun to play and has very innovative controls. Your thumbs will get a workout. Instead of pushing buttons to perform tricks, simply use the two directional controllers to direct the board and the skater's body. The combinations are almost limitless...

The best part is that once you get the hang of it, it really feels like skating. There are backyard pools, skate parks, city streets, art museums and crazy hidden spots that keep things interesting.

Vert or street - link your tricks together to get a high line score. Bigger tricks score higher points. In career mode the idea is to successfully complete challenges to get more coverage in the skate mags and pick up sponsors. As your skater builds his rep, you'll get paid and can start to upgrade your board, trucks and other accessories.

If you like Tony Hawk, get this game. It's a big step forward... now where's the surfing game!!!

My daughter loves it!

This will only be a parent's point-of-view review as I don't play it but am the one who bought it for a daughter for Christmas. She is too young to post on Amazon but loves her Sector 9 skateboard. She has numerous games and systems and at this point in time this is her favorite game, especially of all the games she got for Christmas. She can't put it down! Plus we have older teenage kids and kids in their 20's coming over and playing it, it's become the favorite game for all of them! Good, clean fun without the worry of violence or anything negative to influence kids, I highly recommend. WARNING: May have negative impact on their homework... :o)~
