This game is not only a great game, but also a staisfying one because it beats out its predecessor, Call of Duty: Finest Hour. Call of Duty 2 has a wide variety of guns, tanks, and other weapons. It is very fun to play in single-player mode with the great AI and thrilling levels. Now, many games either have great sinle-player or great xbox live gameplay (Halo 2's Single Sucked, but live is fun), however, this game is one of the few (especially out of all shooters) that are fun both ways. Xbox live contains several very fun maps with great places to camp, snipe, etc. on every one, making it a great game to play online. It just combines great graphics (for xbox, i know compared to xbox 360 its nothing) and a great variety of weapons and places to play to make one of the best shooters ever for xbox, whether you have xbox live or not. This game is worth every penny.

A different WWII shooter in the future, maybe?

First, let me just say that I haven't played this game except for a little on the xbox360. But, and I'm in no way trying to be disrespectful, can't we have a WWII shooter that lets you play missions as the Germans? Even though I'm in no way sympathetic toward Nazis, it would be fun to play as the Germans because: 1) Overall, German troops had better weapons and armor than the allies, and 2) it's always funny to hear your comrades shout stuff in German. The main reason why I haven't bought this game, and probably never will, is that I already own the first Call of Duty for the PC, and once you've played on WWII shooter nowadays it seems like you've played them all. That's why programmers need to do something different with these shooters. The mere fact that this game was another WWII shooter where you can only play as the allies immediately turned me off to it, and I love FPS type games.

The Bad

Having played and loved Call of Duty: Finest Hour, I was really excited about Big Red One. I don't purchase many games anymore, so I usually spend some time researching games before I buy them. I thought I had done my homework, but I was completely surprised. What was I so surprised about? When the game abruptly ended after only a few short hours of playing. I was dumbfounded when the credits began rolling. "That's it!" I said in disbelief. I can't remember the actual number of levels, but it couldn't have been more than ten. The PC and XBox 360 versions have 27 levels.

Furthermore, the replay value is low because the story is completely linear. You would follow the same path if you played it again. You could choose another difficulty level but. . . .

Putting my extreme frustration aside, the atmosphere created in the game is really good. Battles seem realistic with the combination of great graphics, sound, and appropriately-timed camera shake. So, if these are the things you're looking for, you should enjoy this game. I would, however, buy it used to avoid the sticker shock when the game is over before you know it.

This is the best war game that has came out.The graphics are good, the gameplay is good, and the fighting is good. It's a realistic game but when you hit someone they fly a long way.I got it for Christmas and beat it like a week or two after the missions are cool and the next to last mission last like 2 hours. When you die they send you back a long way just a little bit. It's one of my favorite games I recommend it it's a really fun game.

If you do not care if the characters curse the name of god skip the first paaragraph. Okay first off I have to say that it does not matter if the soldiers curse the name of god. I mean what do you think the real soldiers in 1943-1945 were saying, " Holy cow kill that bad guy" or, " Kill that god damn Son of a bitch." You can choose. Now I know it matters if you are using the name of god in vein but face it, everyone has said it before, and will repeat it at least once more so face the facts guys. With that being said onto the review. Call Of Duty: Big Red One has some of the best graphics for a first person shooter I have seen in a while. When you shoot a Nazi, a blood cloud shoots out, or the amount of times you shoot a Nazi is the same amount that spills out. You get to know your squadmates and with every passing death of them, it is sadening. I found that to be a great quality in this game. It is not enough to make you cry but as you progress further into the game you will start to miss hearing their voice. The weapons are very authentic looking and dont lack anything, like recoil, muzzle flash, etc. The environments are well thought out and very detailed. The only flaw is that the game is too damn short. But the D-Day mission(Omaha Beach) was not a very authentic mission. I understand that the makers were trying to shake things up a bit but but they were just pushing the envelope creating a mission that wasnt authentic. It sucked. Other than the D-Day mission everything else was fine. Great game and well worth the money.

WAY better then Finest Hour

I love this game. i cant find one thing wrong with it. there are 13 chapters but some of the missions are hard and can take awhile to beat so i dont think it is too short. it is cool to be able to fight on Omaha Beach and there is actually blood that you can see which makes this even cooler. i love it!!

Whoa....

[...] Secondly, the brave soldiers who fought the war, the real war, didn't go around say 'golly jee, ya think we ought to go get them rascals?' The language used is the same lingo the soldiers used in the trenches. It adds to the REALISM. I have not purchased this game yet, but I have RENTED it, something you may want to consider if you're worried about language in a WWII game. [...]
