Not as fun as I thought

This is a good game (good, not great). Even though it really has absolutely nothing to do with the movie that it was based on, it is still fun, as long as you have skills. The game has almost 50 levels, split into 5 stages: Compy, Raptor, Human Hunter, T-Rex, and Human Prey.
Most of the levels are difficult and annoying. For example, the first T-Rex level. In the level, you're in a dead forest full of raptors and puddles of lava. I'm not exactly sure if I was playing right, but once I got through the level and thought I beat it, there was a tall rock wall that looked like it wasn't meant to get past.
I guess this game could be exciting, as long as you have the companion strategy guide to go with it.
The game also has some good points, like the fact that there are several interesting enemies and levels to move through. Environments include rain forests, warehouses, cave systems, lakes, and plains.
Even though it seems like this game is a put-down, I reccommend this game, as long as you don't get frustrated easily. The game has little to do with the game, so in the end, don't get your hopes up for a 5-star game.

I am begging for a sequel on the PS2.

This game is really fun at times, but really frustrating at others. There are no save points or checkpoints, which is rediculous. For a PSOne game, the graphics are incredible, the dinosaurs look very real. I was a little disappointed with the T-rex levels, for they are a little too difficult, the Compy sucks, and respawning enemies can be annoying. I am begging for a sequel. Save points, checkpoints, and an easier difficulty and this game would have gotten a 5. I hope the PS2 has a similar Jurrassic Park game come out some time for it.

A Good Game: Frustratingly Difficult

Video games based off movies are usually not that good. That, or they don't follow the movies much at all. The Lost World: Jurassic Park really doesn't follow the movie. At all. Really, the game only shares the title of the movie. Despite that, The Lost World is a solid game. The only major problem is simple: the game is incredibly difficult. Easily being one of the hardest Playstation games out there. The sad part is that the game is hard because of frustration with the gameplay.

The game is comprised of thirty levels and you'll play through them as five different characters. You'll begin by playing as a Compy. Then you'll play as a hunter, then a Raptor, then the T-Rex and finally the human prey. Much of the gameplay is no fun, however. Throughout the game you'll take unreasonably large amounts of damage from your enemies and health (particularly for humans) is few and far between. Even though the dinosaurs can restore health through munching on their fallen preys, it's usually not enough.

There are some big differences between playing as humans and playing as dinosaurs. The most obvious, of course, being that the human characters use guns and dinosaurs don't. As humans you can pick up many different weapons to use in your fight against the dinosaurs. As dinosaurs, however, you have an instinct. The more enemies you kill as a dinosaur, the better you instinct gets. Instinct causes you to deal more damage as well as take less. The lower your instincts the more damage you'll take and the less damage you'll deal. Unfortunately, too many attacks from your adversaries can whittle down your health anyway. In addition to that, your instinct will drop if you go too long without killing an enemy. For the humans, you'll find that ammo for your weapons is scarce and the maximum amount is quite low.

The game plays a lot like your basic side scroller as well. While you can turn and explore some pieces of the level, most levels are actually pretty straightforward.

However, as noted before, the game is too challenging. The levels don't have checkpoints and they're pretty long. Just the same, you'll also take damage from falling from too high of a distance. Easily the worst part about The Lost World is its unforgiving challenge. To the point that it really hurts the gameplay.

Even though the game is frustrating to play, the graphics are top notch. Some of the best seen on the Playstation. There are a few glitches, but nothing too bad. Even better is the soundtrack to the game, which is one of the first to use an orchestrated soundtrack. It's a fantastic soundtrack that is used extremely well. The music can actually keep you going through certain parts of the game.

It's hard to recommend The Lost World. It's not a bad game, but it's too frustrating to put down the money for.

Dino-Mite!

The Lost world Jurrasic Park was a great movie in my opinion, the question is, does the movie tie in game succed as well? Well...Yes and No. Let me start out with the good points. This game has some of the best movie tie in game graphics I have ever seen, every tree, every dino is done magnificantly. The amination is also superb, It seems like the animation team went back in time to capture the motion of real dinos. The sound amd music department also exceles as well, with some of the best if not the best game soundtrack I have ever heard. It captures the feel of the movie perfectly and really sets the mood. Controls are a bit rough but still good. One of the best parts of the game is that you get to control different charachters, the Compy the Hunter, the Raptor, the T-Rex and Sarah Harding. The final few levels of the game are very well done and exciting, the last level could put up a fight for the best final level ever when you face off with not 1 but 2 T-rexes. So up till now everything is fun and good, but what about the dissapointing parts? This game has some and all of them are serious. First off although the game box says in really big letters "YOU ARE THE T-REX!" well that is true, you get to play as the big T-rex for about 7 of 40 levels and getting there is not going to be easy wich brings us to our next flaw and certinly one of the biggest. This game has no save points. Thats right, just like the games of yesterday you will have to go compleatly through the game and you cannot save. There are cheat codes that allow you to get to a charachters level however. The 3rd flaw is that this game also has no mid level checkpoints, which means that if you are 2 steps away from the level end and are bombarded by a dimorphedon and killed you have to start all over again. This can get really annoying and tiring. The 4th and biggest flaw is the most serious of all. This can be wayyy too hard, even on the easiest difficulty level. Some of the levels, most of wich are the raptor levels are just insane in terms of difficulty, where you will rip your hair out in frustration. For instance in a raptor forest level I was sneaking up on a Pachysalufusaurus when my head touched its tail my raptor began to bounce up and down, taking damage like crazy and I could not control him, all the while the pachy turned around and killed my charachter. That is so frusterating and maddening I actually sweared and screamed out loud. But this is still a fun game, but be sure to get some cheat codes before playing to get to the cool later levels.

The Good: Fantastic graphics, Fantastic animation, Fantastic soundtrack, you can play as 5 different charachters, you can eat humans as the T-rex. Some levels are really cool. The last level is awsome.

The bad: Getting all the DNA to see the secret (And amusing) ending is impossible to do. Difficulty level can be nasty, No save points?!?! boo. Questionable moments of damage (See Pachy example above)

And the Ugly: The raptor levels are insane in difficulty. The Dimorphidons. You play as a 2 foot tall Compy for most of the game.

This game is Awsome! When your a raptor you get slice and eat all the humans and other dios! Ha! As T-Rex hardly anything stands in your way. Eat all the Humans! They did a great job on the dinos and made it really fun. But Darn it, why is their no check points!?
!? Trust me, you'll want to get this game! Have fun as the dinos! Smell you later!

An utter chore.

The 'Jurassic Park' bandwagon continues to grind onwards. In this game you get to make your way across horizontally-scrolling landscapes, battling or avoiding the various dinosaurs.

Simple, eh? Yes, and you'd have to be simple to think that a video game company has put any effort into this game when it will by the bucketloads because of its licence. The 2D/3D platform landscapes are confusing and lead to inevitable deaths, the graphics are functional rather than interesting and the whole thing moves at a snail's pace. It's true that you get to play bigger dinosaurs (and the odd human) in later levels, but to be honest you'll be completely bored and fed up long before then, and the dinosaur you start out as is so feeble it's hard work getting anywhere at all.

A complete waste of space, made without care or interest.

Hey! It's worth playing!

I thought that this game was pretty good. The graphics are awesome and the music is brilliant! I love being able to play as the compy. the only real problem with it is you have to go through tons of levels with one character until you can be the next. And you can't use a memory card, it uses passwords that you get after a lot of levels. But hey! I though it was still pretty good. If you don't buy it, at least rent it.

I really like this game a lot. The animators did a good job on modeling the dinosaurs, and they sound very life like. But why did I rate this a four? Well there is some down sides to this game. The difficulty is INSANE even on easy, there is a certain plant that can kill you and you play as a compy for most of the game. But other than that it is a pretty good game. You have to be crazy to give this game lower than a four.

ANOTHER GAME OF MINDLESS STUPID FUN 7.25 OUT OF 10

When I put this game into my PSone I had no idea as to what kind of game based on Jurassic Park I was going to get. For every cool one in an arcade you get crap the SNES and Genesis Jurassic Park from 1993. This one finds itself close to the arcade Jurassic Park in quality, except it's not a light-gun shooter; it's a platformer in which you are a dinosaur and you can kill other dinosaurs or people out in the wild. This game is basically about having fun in stupid ways and getting a kick out of watching dinosaurs maul each other. If this sounds like a game for you, then by all means purchase this game if you want to eat some people and maul dinosaurs. I had a good enough time with it, but there are a couple issues. Controls can be a tad finicky and the gameplay feels a little too simplistic. But if you're not good at games this will probably fit you.
