Quite possibly the most addictive game I've ever played. Until this game came out, I had not played any sort of video game since the old Atari system was popular. In fact, I considered addicted video game players as weak people. The Betty Ford Clinic could not have kept me from playing this damn game until I had exhausted all of its combinations and permutations!
Hands down best ever!

I would like to start by saying I AM NOT A VIDEO GAME PERSON. However, after playing this game once in 1998, I was instantly hooked. I lost my copy and went for years with out TA action. I also use a mac now and as far as I knew there was no mac version of TA. Thank God for AMAZON, I am in TA heaven now with a Mac version. This is hands down the best game ever, and thats comming from somone who is not a video game person!

This is the first real-time strategy I ever played, and it set the bar for all the rest. I have not yet found another to challenge it's place in my collection.
Buy this if you have at least an hour to play a game!!!!!

I have been playing this game (single player mode) for 3 years now. It is the 2nd best game I have ever played (Deus Ex is the best), and the best stratagy game I have ever played. The graphics are great, and the sound is truely awesome (though some sounds can get monotonous if you have all sounds enabled). The narration at the beginning of each mission is as awesome as it would be if the man who played Darth Vader did it. It is very addictive gameplay which will perhaps give 100 hours or more of addictive fun. It was very hard for me at first, but after a week or more I became very good at it on "Hard" skill.
Use the speed settings hot keys to slow down the game, or you will not be able to handle the commands fast enough. Be very careful with your "commander". Use the orders to set the proper stance for each unit: "Roam", "maneuver", or "Hold position; "Fire at will", "return fire", or "Hold Fire". Set the settings at the factory to automatically churn out new units with the proper stance already set. Assign "Patrols" to units: they will patrol back and forth (or around) exactly as you want them to automatically.
If you do not have the patience to spend hours building up a base for a single mission (fighting off raids at the same time), then you should NOT buy this game. However, if you do, this game will reward you with an awesome battle with the opposing side. The AI is awesome. The only fault is in the missions on the planet with the occasional "meteor showers" and the other planet with the "ice storms": occasionally the showers will awaken enemy units prematurely ("scripted" events), causing them to attack you when you can not survive such a powerful attack without becoming too weak. In this case, replay the mission from the beginning. It will probably play out differently then. When things get hectic, pause the game to give orders.
This game is so fun, I CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH FUN THIS RTS GAME IS!!!!!

Total Annihilation is one of the best games around. It has a huge variety of units, great unit graphics and special effects, and realistic combat. I do recommend you get the Gold Edition, with hundreds more units and missions. Highly recommended for anyone who likes real time strategy (Like Starcraft).

Total Annihilation is by far the best war game ever. It is much like a mix between warcraft and starcraft. But best of all, it is anti-violent.

I think this is a very fun game. There is lots of stategy involved in Total Annihilation, like producing the right units to build the right buildings so you can get the best robots to do what is required to what you need. (It is a game with robots and it is not bloody at all).I think it is a very great game and if I might say a little over rated. Over all I think it is a great game.

This is the coolest strategy game I've ever played. It's unbeleivably realistic in terms of gameplay and it has good graphics. For example, you can build giant plasma cannons to shoot into the enemy's base without risking the lives of your people. Also, you don't have to struggle over rescources like in many other games; all you have to do is construct a building on top of the rescource and give it some protection. I strongly recommend you get this game. Don't let the price fool you, if the people who wotked at amazon.com had any idea how cool this game was, they would raise the price.
The only game worth playing apart from backgammon

If the people who invented chess had had the hardware, they'd have written TA. If you like Sim City, don't bother playing TA- it will prove too much for your weak heart. The king of all real time strategy games. Buy it. Make your partner go drinking without you and let your cat go hungry. The bifter will go out in the ashtray. Buy it.
