Best Dreamcast racing title to date!

This is the best racing game for the Dreamcast to date, period. If you are a fan of racing games and own a dreamcast you need to purchase this game IMMEDIATELY. I have played every racing title to date for the Dreamcast and this is BY FAR the best. I would go so far as to say this is the best non-simulation console racing game ever available, on any platform. If you even remotely liked sega rally, or speed devils you must buy this game. It is easily twice as good as either title. The graphics are equal to that of soul calibur, if not better, and there are a huge amount of both indoor and outdoor tracks. As far as the difficulty of the game, it is tough, but not impossible. I am on the eighth track out of 24 in championship mode after about 20 total hours of game play. The game has an excellent feeling of both elevation change & speed, especially when you hit the boost. It also allows for three different camera angles, two rear + in-car. Take it from a seasoned race game fan, you will not regret buying this game!

DO NOT (I repeat) DO NOT listen to the negative Nancy's who say anything bad about this game. True it is tough but not impossible like they make it seem. This is a white~knuckle racer like no other, honestly. If you like arcade type racers, this is the Mother Lode. 24 tracks? What more can you want? Oh, graphics? The best on a racer on the DC yet. Ya that good. The sound is a little, eh, but the you won't be bothered by it either. This is the game to get. Arcade perfect? Uh uh, ...better. This is the first game to leave me uh, I can't find the words. (NOTE, the first 2 tracks aren't the best, if you have seen them, don't sweat it, the best is yet to come.)

If you don't mind starting a race where all the other drivers are as far as a half a lap in front of you and the only way to keep up with them is to hit EVERY booster icon and find EVERY shortcut then this game is for you. But if not then I suggest you wait for 4x4 Evolution to come out this fall. This game has a lot of eye candy but the best graphics in the world don't mean diddly if the game is too frustrating to play.

This game is not for amateurs!

Don't expect to put this game in and beat it the first day, this is a game of skill! It is possible to unlock all the tracks and other cars. The graphics are awesome and because of the speed of the game it can be really intense, just ask my eye doctor! This game is definitely one to own if you are up to a challenge. I have unlocked all the tracks, and have fully customized 4 out the 8 cars in two months. Side note: To unlock more vehicles, go through the championship mode and beat it with a different car. Since there are 8 vehicles, you can achieve 6 customizations for each car and upon winning the championship, for every different vehicle used, you unlock a "special" vehicle. Therefore, you have the potential of unlocking or customizing a car to have more than 60 different cars. Try it, accept the difficulty and overcome it, you'll love it!

A different kind of racing thunder....

I must admit, I rented this game somewhat apprehesingly, since I tend not to get along with most off-road racing games. Within five minutes (maybe even sooner) of playing this one all my concerns were thrown (quite forcibly) out the window.

To start off, the graphics (yes all reveiews start here) are amazing. It doesn't matter how many of the competitors are on the screen with you, the game runs at the same break-neck speed. This is one of the first times I've come to prefer the inside-the-cockpit view just so my vehicle doesn't block my view.

While it is true that the only extra thing added to the pedal-to-the-floor racing on the track are the Thunder series trademark boosts, this makes for strategy enough in my opinion. Add multiple paths galore in tracks that feel more like road trips than race tracks and I found myslef overwhelmed. One of my qualms with racers in general is that some tracks (even in my favorite racing games Wipeout XL and 64) are way too short. AS I have already said, these tracks (with the exception of the few added indoor tracks) are anything but short. Some of the later tracks are flat out evil in their complexity....

Yes, this game can be difficult. However it is NOT impossible. I was having so much fun, though, that coming in short and having to race the track again wasn't all that bad.

I find it hard to reccomend games. since my tatses are so odd (Persona, Rollcage II, Star Ocean, Darius G., and Thunder Force V). However, I cannot resist reccomending that you try this one out. You just never know what you've really been looking for....

I did not used to be an avid gamer, until I played 4 wheel thunder. I was hooked from the second I got onto the wonderful and very realistic tracks. I played it all day, I skipped work and other important functions because I couldn't put the controller down!!! The graphics are really awesome and I feel like I am really in the cockpit of a fast speed race car. The thrill is incredible!!! I had never had aspirations to be a race car driver but I think I would love to exprerience the real life excitement on the race track. I love 4 wheeel thunder!!!

My kids love it.

Just a warning to all Japanese Dreamcast system owners (who have a mod chip, of course). This game will not work. You need an american system (even if the american system has a mod chip, the game will still work).

Otherwise, great game!

4wheel is a great game with lots of speed and no slowdown in two player, this is better than hydro thunder,but this game is too hard. If your having trouble opening stuff up than play arcade with two players. buy this

The Best Racing Game on DC?

Is this game the best racer on the Dreamcast? Well, I think so.The graphics ae nice with maybe a few signs of cardboard cut outs but besides that its just 60 fps all the way. im mean with you going 120 miles an hour and kicking up sand while trying to get past other off road vehicles, its pretty sweet. Oh yah, did i mention that is has a good amount of visually stunning off road vehicles? The music is not all that bad i mean. I think it fits the game pretty well. But the sound could get some getting used to, but still, its not all that bad. With over 30 tracks (I repeat) 30 tracks and a endless amount of shortcuts, it will be a while before u end up going to the store and buying another game. There's 10 outside tracks which are extremely long (it will probably take u a little over 10 minutes to go aroung one track 2 times. And they are really spectacular. Infact i must warn u. Concentrate more on the racing then the view of these gorgouse tracks. There are also some bonus tracks that go along with these. There are also plenty of indoor tracks that are eqaully stunning. And then theres the multiplayer. Which then has there own good amount of nice looking tracks, as well as cool looking arenas. This game may be a bit hard and frustrating at times, but it just adds to the already high replay value. With the speeds in this game the dreamcasts controlor fits it perfectly. So,if your choosing to add a racing title to your collection of dreamcast games, get this one. I promise you wont be sorry.
