I'm a sims fan and the people in this game don't come close to the sims. It takes to long to get to reach the modern day movies and the movies that they make are lame. They advertise you can make your own movie but only if you use their scenes that are already made up. It wasn't at all like it was advertised to be.

If you have a new computer, don't bother, it won't run. Unless you have a computer like back in 2004.

I was really excited when I heard this game would soon be available. I know that Peter Molyneux tends to over promise but I was hopeful that this time he would deliver. He did not.

I am not a big RTS or SIM fan but I do think that I know a good game when I play one. The SIM portion of the game is very engaging. I think that it suffers from being overly simplified and at times restrictive. For my money it is just not that fun to play. You have to play through it in order to open up all that the game has to offer. That means that in order to begin making movies with All the resources the game offers you have to play through the game and unlock everything. Tedious yes, fun no.

The movie making portion is where the real fun is found. You can easily make little movies but if you really want to tell stories then The Moives is not the way to do it. You choose from pre staged scenes and connect them together to make your movies. This can make for some funny little movies that can be created and shared rather easily, but nothing of any substance can be created. The potential is there but the developers just dont go far enough with the movie creation tools.

-no establishing shots
-no children manequins
-no control over camera position
-no actor direction

and a host of other ommissions.

If you dont expect much this game can be fun for about five minutes, otherwise this game needs to drop the SIM aspects and fortify the movie making tools because thats really where the fun is.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of purchasing. Finding this game used is you best bet.....CZ

Quickly lost its luster

I do not want to worry about hiring janitors, searching for extras, worrying about the landscape of my studio lot, constructing toilets, or any other of the micromanaging chores involved in running a studio. I want to build stars, direct films, and create cinematic masterpieces. There are so many distractions away from the main goal that one barely has time to enjoy the movie making experience. Bad enough I have to spend forever worrying about side projects, but the movie making software itself is flawed limiting what types of flicks I can even make. What could have been. What could have been. When one turns the entertainment industry into a boring exercise then one knows they have failed utterly.

Addicting!!! But....

...the novelty wears off. The fact that the movie making experience is very limited, redundant, and totally lacking. The stratagy part of it together with the "fun" and creative parts of the game is completely off-putting. But it's a fun game for the first 5-10 hours of play.

Not Sim-like enough; a little disappointing for the Sim fan

I was under the impression that this game would have more Sim-like functions; there is little interaction between stars, no ability to personalize sets, and unimaginative costumes. The tutorial is absolutely terrible. As a fan of the Sims, the Sims 2 and SimCity, this game is not what I expected. If you prefer the character and building options with these other games, don't waste your money on this one. I wouldn't buy it knowing what I know now.

Repetitive Gameplay

After downloading and playing through a demo, I was left wanting to continue playing. Later that week, I shelled out 50 dollars to buy this game. I expected some additions and variety from the demo, but I could not have been more dissappointed. A bunch of extra sets and actors, but not much else. The one part that I actually was pleased with was the music and radio announcements. The sound truly reflected on the time periods that you would play. Other than that, I honestly would say you should just play the demo over and over again until you are bored. Then you have experienced the equivalent of buying the full game for no price and less space taken up on your computer.
