Back Lighting??????

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 1 / 1

The GBA Graphics are pretty cool if you can ever see them. The GBA has no back lighting and you can not see the screen very well. The NYKO Worm Light that came with the package deal has broken after only using it twice. When it did work it produced a glare on the GBA screen and really was not bright enough. The Sega game gear even had back lighting when it came out years ago. Come on Nintendo 32bit Graphics and no back lighting???? They have left everyone who purchases the GBA to go on a search for some kind of after market lighting that gets in the way and does not provide enough light without a serious glare.

The opinion of my 17 YEAR OLD SON....

I'm going to take a backseat here and let my son, the gaming expert in this house, give his opinion, based on his experience playing these three games: Krazy Racer, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 and Super Mario Advance. He says the graphics were "far better" than he expected them to be, rivaling the 32 bit graphics of a Playstation, at least as much as a handheld system can rival a system hooked up to a full-sized television screen. The playability of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 was "amazing" (his words)and he tends to be very skeptical of handheld systems so this is saying plenty. He notes that Super Mario Advance is a "very polished" version of his old Nintendo favorite, Mario Brothers 2. His first impression was that Krazy Racer looked like it was designed for young children but he found it to be challenging and very fun. He said the sound quality of all three games was "spectacular" for a system so small. His only hesitancy in giving this one the highest rating is that fact that he thinks the soon-to-be-released Nintendo Cube (designed to be able to support Game Boy Advance)won't be able to compete with Microsofts's soon-to-be-released X-Box because of Microsoft's overwhelming financial and technological superiority in this market.

A vast improvement over the original Game Boy

I got my Game Boy Advance in the mail today, and I thought I would give a review...

The screen - The screen on the GBA is much larger than the screen on previous Gsme Boys (original, Pocket, Color), and has a much better resolution than them. And you can also play your old Game Boy (and Game Boy Color) games in widescreen format by holding in the L button when you turn on the power. On a scale from 1 to 10 (10 = best, 1 = worst), I give a 10.

Sound - I think the speaker on the GBA is louder than the speaker on the Game Boy Color, and I consider that to be a great asset to the GBA. Score : 10

Control layout : I love the design of the GBA. Gone is the old vertical design. The GBA has a horizontal layout (similar to the Sega Game Gear, Atari Lynx, and Tiger game.com) which feels better in my hands than the old vertical design of previous Game Boys. The buttons and the D-pad are laid out perfectly, and I love the top trigger buttons (the L button and R button). Score : 10

Compatibility with older software : So far I have had no problems using my old software on the GBA. By the way, one of my favorite things about the GBA is that unlike home console systems, the GBA does NOT have a territory lockout. That means that Japanese games WILL work on American GBA systems, and vice versa. Back to my old software...Dragon's Lair works great, Donkey Kong works great, and Tetris DX works great. I have not tested my other software, but I am definitely pleased that I was able to upgrade to the GBA without discarding all of my old software (of course I might sell or give my Game Boy Color to somebody). Score : 10

Overall : How can the best-selling video game system of all time (I think that's right...I think there have been more Game Boy systems sold than Atari 2600 systems sold) get any better? Well, retain the color screen, make the screen bigger and widen it, and give the system a 32-bit upgrade. And the software for the GBA looks great. I expect the GBA to have a VERY long life. I am pleased with mine, and you'll be pleased with your very own as well. Overall score : 10

got mine from japan months ago and it's kewl!

i imported the japanese gba (identical to the us version) and it's really awesome. although it's actually larger than the gameboy color, it feels smaller because of its sleek design. the new cartridges are much smaller too, although of course you can play the old ones on the gba (they just stick out of the top more). i have F-Zero and KuruKuruKururin, also from japan. F-Zero is very realistic, great racing gameplay, great sound, amazingly clear graphics. and best of all, you will be able to use the gba as a controller for the new Nintendo GameCube when it comes out this fall. all in all, the packages offered here are a good deal. get your "glacier" color asap, as this is the most popular color and will sell out FAST!

Awesome!

....I got my GBA om the mail today, and I'm playing now. All I can say is wow! The games are very small, so be careful you don't lose them! The graphics are unexplainable. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is great, portable, and has incredible graphics. Super Mario Advance is great too, and it is a 2 in 1 game! It has Super Mario Bros. 2, and classic Mario Bros. GBA is back-compatable, meaning you can play all of your old Gameboy/Color games on it! The only problem with that is since the games are a lot larger they stick out. They aren't in perfect color, but GBA games are! Good luck!

The Game Boy Advance-(GBA) is soon to be released here in the states and all the gaming magazines are all over it. There is 1 negative review I read on amazon.com by a gamer from Takoma, MD, USA. He must have been eating a few to many corn dogs before he went to sleep because his review stinks. I doubt he has even seen a picture of the GBA none the less play one. From what I have read In trustworthy gaming magazines and on... the new console is awesome! Also, your old games for Game Boy and Game Boy Color will play on it. This bundle pack comes with a MARIO game wich I have heard good things about, TONY HAWK 2 wich is also suppost to be good, a WORM LIGHT to play in the dark, a POWER PACK so you won't need batteries, a HOLSTER to carry the GBA and protect it, and the GBA CONSOLE itself. I recomend every serious gamer buy this system that already has a launch library of about 500 games, will you ever get tired?

This is a really great system and you should get it because the graphics are so much better and it makes the games alot more realistic and the button design helps for the best gameplay. The colors are good too. My favorite games for this are Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and Mario.

Better Than Ever!!!

The NEW Game Boy Advanced is the greatest advance in hand held technology ever. It has all new features (ex: 2 new buttons, new games (Tony Hawk 2). It has the greatest potential for the future of Nintendo, with the New Game Cube coming out in November it can work as an another controller. I have seen Game Boy Advanced and looked at all of its specks and it's a major improvement on Game Boy Color, with long playing time on just 2 AA batteries, lager screen, better resolution, and in height and length it is the same size of Game Boy Color, but thinner. Game Boy Advanced is compatible with Game Boy, and Game Boy Color game's which gives Games Boy Advanced one of the largest game libraries, and more games are coming out soon. Game Boy Advanced was one of the Best Buys I ever made.

Wicked awesome!

This Game Boy Advance system is really advanced! In fact, this new Game Boy edition reminds me more of Sega Geniuses rather than Game Boy Color. It's much better than Game Boy Color and definitely better than the Game Boy that I have, which is the original, non-color one. Anyways, the graphics on this Game Boy Advance are incredible, and they're in 3D. Also, it's in color. The sound is pretty good, too. And the games this Game Boy Advance pack comes with - Super Mario Brothers and Tom Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - are fantastic. This Game Boy Advance can be for anybody...not just kids. Even adults might find this interesting and entertaining. Although I do think the price is kind of high, but it'll probably be well-worth it if you can get your hands on this. I can't believe the first day this stuff went on sale Amazon.com was already Out of Stock! Oh well, perhaps Amazon.com will get some new ones on sale. But until then, you should find someplace else where they have this available. Definitely better than the original black and white Game Boy and Game Boy Color put together! This is so cool (and this review is coming from a 17-year-old teenager!).

Age makes a difference.

This was a great gift for my 9 yr old son. The games have great graphics and he has enjoyed them both. The screen could have more light. It is dark. But we have found this is the case in all the games. My 6 year old also got the Advanced and different games but I think older children seem to enjoy it more so.
