Halfway decent, but not the Road Rash of old

The title Road Rash alone will bring up fond memories of EA's classic series in it's heydey, and while Road Rash: Jailbreak for the GBA carries the Road Rash name and bears some resemblance to the series, it doesn't capture what made the series so great in the first place. The game features a handful of racers and tracks, of which you can be chased by biker cop looking to bring you down. There's various weapons and power up's to pick up along the way to, and the game as a whole looks and sounds well. However, this isn't the proper Road Rash experience for sure. In fact, if the game didn't have the Road Rash name to it, this could be an otherwise pretty generic motorcycle racing game. It just doesn't have the same kind of attitude, good music, or even rearview mirror that the old Road Rash games had. Not to mention that the game uses a password feature to unlock tracks, when considering that nearly every GBA game at the time this came out automatically saved your progress, this is unforgivable. All in all, for motorcycle racing fans in general, this is worth a look, but for die hard Road Rash fans, you won't find what you're looking for here.
Another port from Destination (yawn).

Well, yet another popular title is trying to get ported to the Game Boy Advance. The problem is, a Game Boy Advance can never live up to the visuals set by the Playstation. The lack of buttons means control is missing. Even worse, it runs on the same engine as the disastrous SMUGGLER'S RUN port a few months ago! EA made a solid port of this to the Game Boy Color three years ago, but they actually put effort into it. Do not buy this title. If you need some violence on motorcycles, buy GTA: VICE CITY for PS2. If you need a driving game on Game Boy Advance, get Colin McRae Rally 2.0.

I love it!
There are many ways to play this game, including multi-player, which makes this game a must have. The graphics are very clear and the precision of the driving is great--you don't crash around every corner. However, hitting your opponents three times fast is very difficult, but you can just slow down and wait for them to go around again if you like to have a nice scenic bike ride.
There is Wild Race, where you race against three other bikers and a cop. In Cop Patrol, you're the cop and have to knock down all four bikers. Time Attack lets you race without opponents against a clock (very difficult). I haven't figured out Survival mode yet because it requires a password and my first password for Wild Race doesn't work on it. Multi-player lets up to two players connect (I haven't done this). Finally, there is a tips section that gives clues as to the gameplay. It's fairly simple but tons of fun, and the variations just make it a bonus on bonus.
Not fabulous. Not awesome. Not terrific. But it's an OK game

This is an OK game. It's pretty fun to drive and race but once you go past a cop, he'll follow only YOU throughout the rest of the track. He'll hit you until you fall of your bike then you have to start the race again. I have only been able to get to 3 of the tracks. You can do Urban City, Tropical, and Rainforest. The City is the hardest of the first 3. There are a lot of things you can hit going around corners. The game in all is alright. Rent it then see if you like it and THEN buy if you want it.
If you have the PC-version of the original, don't bother

Jailbreak is an embarrassment to the Road Rash franchise. It's so weak and pointless and the gameplay is unbelievably crap. Everything that makes Road Rash great has been whittled down to nothing that I ended up wondering why they bothered.
1. You cannot fall off your bike and run around. If you smash into your car you just go right through it. Falling off only happens (rather unspectacularly) when you're energy hits zero. But you magically reappear on the bike in a second.
2. There are only 4 rashers per race. In previous games there were 15. It doesn't really feel like a race anymore and there are 11 less people to beat-up.
3. Marshall Lee only chases you. He will not go after any other rashers.
4. There are very few/no opportunities for stunts/jumps.
5. The sound effects are rotten.
6. There is no rear-view mirror or indicators telling you who is behind.
7. There is no counter telling you how far you've come in the racecourse.
There is also a new feature here in which you can play Marshall Lee on his police bike. The aim is to knock the rashers off their bikes before they reach the finish line. But where is the fun in this? If you're going faster you have to slow down to their speed and painstakingly attack them while maintaining slowness. This is not what Road Rash is about!
Mix this in with some horrible graphics and you have a total stinker of a game. A huge disappointment indeed.
