Winning eleven 9 is even more real. Everything is harder than the last game and that is what makes the game much more fun and challengingn like the real soccer we see on t.v.

WTF?

The first time I played winning eleven was close to 10 years ago. It was on the playstation, in japanese, and was never released in the US.
The truth is, WE is always the best soccer game. I play this series too much and know it too well. But started from WE8, a growing problem hindered me from completely enjoying the game - the CPU cheats.
When a player with a top speed of 78, acceleration 80, dribbling the ball, can outrun another who has 90 for speed and 94 for acceleration, you know something is wrong; when your opponent players are making brilliant moves while your players sit around and stare at the goal they just made, you know there's bugs in the game; and when your opponent score with a free kick from more than 30m away in injury time, while the kicker's shoot accuracy, power, technique, free kick accuracy, and curling are all below 80, you know the CPU is cheating.
In addition to the above complain, the referee is extremely irritating. He fouls you or your opponent in unnecessary circumstances; and he makes a lot of mis-foul.
I really don't mind the new control, which I think makes the game substantially more real-life. But if you add up all the little problems, it makes the game only enjoyable for beginners or when playing multi-player mode. For advance and old school players, they are likely to be disappointed by the "extreme difficulty" since the CPU is in charge of everything.

THE definitive footie game for the true soccer purist.

Winning Eleven has consistantly bettered itself over the years and, not surprisingly, again this year.
There is not a terrible amount of new additions and it may be debateable as to whether a purchase is warranted if you already have last years entry.
This time around a new control scheme has been thrown in that really takes the playability to a new level. Now one on one moves are done with the left joystick on the PS2. This ads a whole new dimension to the controls and allows for a more precise and fair feeling scheme. It is a bit unothodox at first but after a few games I was very comfortable with it and I look forward to seeing exactly how proficient a tool I can make this new tactic.
As with before everything else is perfect. THe only thing still missing is more authorized teams and jerseys, but there are actually more included this time around, though still not as many as with FIFA 06. Still, if you are a true soccer fan and a purist of the sport, then there is no comparison. Winning Eleven is THE game for all footie fans. Excellent and fun...even for non soccer fans.

Once again, Winning Eleven is the best.

\Konami excels (again) with Winning Eleven 9 and its slightly improved graphics (PS2 got to its limits, we can't ask for more. But PS3 is coming!), awesome controls and big variety of moves.

Now we all know which the big problem with Winning Eleven is; the lack of licenses that don't allow them to have the name of certain players and teams. Unfortunately EA makes so much money from the Madden and NBA Live series that it makes them have the main contracts with FIFA. But still you find tons of names here and it's certainly better than before.

Everything is improved and actualized and let's say, pretty close to reality. If you play with England you have and awesome team with Owen and Rooney scoring goals and Lampard, Gerrard and Beckamp playing as midfielders with all the skills that we all know they have in real life.
With Brazil it's even hard to decide which players you want in the field with all those names and the teams have also perfect formation systems. Not one detail was left aside, even Ronaldinho plays as a left forward instead of playing behind the central forward like in WE8, because in real life, that's his position today in Barcelona.

But the most important thing here is the controls and the visuals. WE series have always being superior to other football (or soccer if you prefer) videogames and beats EA's FIFA series year after year. Especially this one in which FIFA 2006 is so boring it doesn't even have a camera to watch close and horizontally. I mean let's get real. Getting a game in which you even choose your sponsors may be cool, like with FIFA 2006. But playing a game with awesome controls, more and better looking moves and that it's actually ENTERTAINING while you are playing on the field, is way more important.

If you have the money (and the time) to buy both games, then that's fine. But if you can only buy and/or play one, make no mistake. Winning Eleven 9 is THE game. Heck, WE as a game, graphically with those motions and controls, is even superior to the 2K series and its basketball, football and baseball games. In the States "soccer" may not be popular, but WE has demonstrated being the best sports game out there, period.
Here you have hours and hours of pure entertainment. Leagues, cups, training. You can learn the new moves or start creating your own strategies according to the skills of the players that you have. Even new positions were added (Winning back and Second Top). And don't worry about difficulty. Level 6 provides a good challenge even for experts.

Nothing else to say. Winning Eleven 9 = The best.

Still the best franchise but a step down from WE8

Those who join the WE franchise will enjoy WE9 and are sure to be hooked, if not addicted, to the WE franchise. Those who, like me, had the chance to play earlier version of WE, especially WE8, will probably be a little disappointed. Sure, WE9 has some improvements over WE8, on-line play and new moves being the most significant. However, the flow of play and AI were much better in WE8. In WE9, players do not move as fluidly as in WE8. During play, teammates are often out of position and you find it hard to believe that you are playing with world class players. Also ball control is much harder. Players seem to have a hard time controlling the ball on a simple pass or sometime they will push the ball too far ahead. Sometime your player will make an inexplicable right turn when he is about to receive the ball. If you have played and enjoyed WE8, WE9 will feel like an unfinished product that was pushed early on the market. This is probably so that there is enough time between WE9 and WE10 (the 2006 World Cup special edition) to entice people (like me) to buy both products instead of just buying WE10 Pity. That said, there is no doubt that Konami's WE franchise absolutely dominates the soccer game market, even if it did not get the nod from all the professional leagues of the world and the FIFA. My recommendation is: If you have WE8 and do not have WE9, then do not buy WE9 and wait for WE10 to come out (probably just before the World Cup this year).

Miles better than FIFA but not as good as last one

First off ive only played the PAL version (Pro evoloution soccer 5) but its virtuall the same game.

I totally agree with the "Fatman", if you play on levels three ot higher the compute cheats all the time. i.e if Thierry Henry is sprinting down the left wing and the computer is playing as a fairly average Premiership team (like Villa) every defender will catch him even when they are 4-5 yard behind.

The computer can also get away with cutting across you when your through on goal and a free kick or penalty will never be given, but you only need to go near a computer controlled player in the middle of the pitch and they go down as easily as that spanish guy in Tuesdays Champions League game.

Another thing that bugs me is on difficulter levels the computer has so much posession, you can never get the ball off them, and when you do your passes are easily accepted.

Ive played this series since the 98 version and this is the naffest game in the series.

Sort it out for next year Konami.

The best football game to date!

I am a big fan of the pro evo series (or winning eleven depends which version you get, they are the same game)and this one dosn't disappoint. With stunning graphics (I saw a clip and thought it was a real match) and great game play.
Fifa may have all the licenses but Konami have secured all of Spain, Italy and a few other leagues. Also all the International players are here (no orange212 instead of a holland player) along with 2 English clubs Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Gameplay feels hard at first it dosn't have the same freedom as the old versions. You can't just play ball straight to a striker and score, you need to pass it around build up your play and keep possesion as it hard to get the ball back...just like the real game!

Online mode is a welcome update and although there are a few connection problems (it takes me 5 mins to get into the lobby) its really good especially playing with a friend in a 2 vs 2 match. If you win match you get points and they have diffrent leagues these range from amateur to Division 1. Te community is genraly friendly and the rules are fair (if you dissconect it goes down on your record so people can decide if they want to play you or not)The only real downside is that we can't use our master league teams.

The master league itself hasn't changed to much although managment options have improved and the better your team is the more fans come to watch you play.

Commentry is still the games weakest point but the crowd sound realistic and hold some comical banners (I think one once said run rabbit run!)

If you love football or just want a realistic football experiance pro evolution soccer 5 or World soccer winning eleven 9 is your game.

For all winning eleven fans and even for the fans of Fifa, this game is the best soccer game ever. I have to admit I used to not like Fifa but the 2006 edition is very good. However, winning eleven excels in game play once again. The game changed a bit from previous versions. The players don't move as freely but once you get adapted to the new game play you will love it. Choose your favorite team and play soccer the way it should be done. You will not go wrong with this game. It is incredibly fun.

Just Awesome

Simply the best soccer game franchise ever created. The simulation, player moves and gameplay is the best the market can offer. If you are a real soccer fan this game is a must. Screw the Mexican league, the Norge leage and most of the leagues that appear in Fifa titles.
