I'm an American Living in England and FOOTBALL is huge here. This is as close as football gets to perfection on a video game. i apreciate you smart americans who enjoy the beautiful game as much as the rest of the world. It is a passionable game far ahead of NFL,NBA,MLB and NHL sorry but its the truth. They are good and all, but don't have the history and passion of football. I recently read an article in a Tampa Bay newspaper claiming that football is the boring sport on the face of the planet. Wise up USA this is the best sport in the world period. Anyways i would like to thank you people who have bought this game as it symbolises a true fans understanding of the game which I, my friends, the whole of Europe and the rest of the world enjoy. For you spectics who nit pick the fact that the teams outside Serie A (Italy), La Liga (Spain) and the Dutch League are unlincensed, it just underlines the fact you do not understand football and probably never will. Good luck America continue to promote football your side of the pond. You've still got a long way before MLS is close to the quality of the Premiership in England. Thank you to those who gave this game 5 stars in their reviews particulary the guy who reviewed it against Fifa, well played.

Incredibly Fun!!!

If you're still doubtful about buying this game due to negative reviews, read no more and Just Buy It. First of all Winning Eleven 8 can't possibly be compared with any Fifa edition. This game is exciting, fun, and most certainly realistic. Once you get control of a player, you can imagine it is you dribbling the ball and taking spectacular shots at goal at any angle you desire and however fast you want it to go. A great feature is that each player is given distinct and original skills. Pavel Nedved is unstoppable or if you like putting a bit of crazy speed, give the ball to Ronaldinho and even bust a "gambeta" here and there. I can continue writing all night long but then again you need time to pay for this game. One last thing, there is a bad aspect to it, it turns to be time consuming once your fully into it.

The lack of licensing ruins it as always.

Like any other game in the sries winning eleven eight puts a strong emphasis on gameplay, and being a big fan of the sport i appreaciate that fact. But once again the lack of licensing brings the games presentation down along with visuals that cant compare to the fifa series. I have been buying both fifa and winning eleven 8 games side by side for a long time, and every year i enjoy fifa more. While i can understand why this game is said to be better then fifa and is pereffered by gamers it still doesnt work for a statistical buff like me who finds licensing to be an important part of ne soccer game.

If you like seeing McDonald's Adverts, this is the game!

Decent gameplay totally degraded by Mcdonald's restaurants advertising signage plastered everywhere on the boards and stadium.

Not subtle at all like the adidas adverts - bold, loud, and annoying to see... we should be payed to play this game and be bombarded by adverts. What in the hell does terrible food that's terrible for your health have to do with football !

I'm disappointed, dismayed, and degraded !

I have written asking for a full refund!

Boycott advertising in games !

TV is bad enough!

I haven't gotten this game yet because I can't decide between Fifa 2005 and this. If anyone has any points that weren't mentioned either way, I would like to hear them. Also, if someone who has this game could answer a question for me: Does Winning Eleven 8 have Major League Soccer (MLS)?

As a Liverpool fan, I miss the kits and the Kop - the "Merseyside Reds" and the "Red Cauldron" just aren't the same. So I bought EA's FIFA game for the licenses. EA is better for those who like to watch the sport. Konami's Winning Eleven series is the one to go with if you like to play the game.

The players, ball control and ball movement are fluid and realistic. The controls are smooth and intuitive. A great addition is the onfield referee, and the different styles can really factor into a game - especially with those refs that are quick to card or ignore fouls even if they cause injury. If you are new to the game, make sure you select the easiest setting before you play.

A 100% Blast!

after years of loyal (and pretty much exclusive) EA Sports gaming, i need to make a confession: Winning Eleven 8 is the most fun game i have ever played. not sports game, not soccer game, but video game period! what a blast! the ONLY reason i give Winning Eleven 8 4 stars instead of 5 is because i never feel right giving anything a perfect score. that being said, this game is about as close as anything i'll ever review will come!

i agree with the reviewers that say official liscensing would be great, but then again, the Edit Mode is so sharp that you can have a great time just tweeking your team's kit! (unless your tream is Celtic or Sporting Lisbon. no hooped shirts? what's up with that!) : )

speaking of Edit Mode, another OUTSTANDING feature is the ability to modify all National and/or Club rosters with no fuss whatsoever! this means that with a little patience, you can have something that no EA game of recent memory has offered (and something i have longed for for far too long!): a 100% accurate Dutch National side. (or German, or Croatian, or any other country who's F.A. didn't sign the Konami agreement.) : )

it's not just that you can edit (or Register) the appropriate player for their similar-looking-stand-in, but if you (for example)long for the days of Alan Shearer in an England kit, BAM! two buttons later, you got him! Bergkamp up front in Orange? no problem! reunite Figo and Barca? have at it, man! i absolutely love this feature!

not one mention of gameplay, The Master League, presentation. man, what a crappy review i've written! : ) for real though, if you've read reviews for this title, you've heard about how great all of that stuff is, and with all of those whose praise these features, i agree wholeheartedly! simply the best around!

in short, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!
