3 Award -Winning War Games?

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 0 / 12
Date: May 20, 2000

Who the ... dishes out these awards? I admit that these games improve as the series prolongs (CC4 is the best thus far) but every part of this trilogy is a rip off. Perhaps I am being too picky. I would go into greater detail as to why this game bites, but this would be a very long list. I must admit the graphics and sounds are not bad, but the gameplay is horrible. Spend your money on a better war game, you'll be much happier. What else would you expect from Microsoft?

Try a free game called Chain of Command.

Bad Game....

....The graphics are good, but that is about it. There is no point in even playing this game against the computer because none of your commands are ever followed anyway. ....I wasted numerous hours hoping that game play would improve, but it never did. The Command and Conquer series, Warcraft, or similar strategy games are 10 times better!

What a tedious waste of time

What a waste of time playing this game. Do yourself a favor--buy Combat Flight Simulator if you want some action, buy a book like "War on the Eastern Front" if you want some interesting history. This game package is a complete waste of time and money.

CCIII continues to improve on the tracks of I and II

The AI improves in CCIII. These three games will walk you through the warfare of WWII era. This series gives you all you would ever want in WWII era squad level warfare. I can't wait for a vol. 4!

It is an amazing adventure. It is one of the best games I've ever played. It's extremely addictive and awesome! I think it is one of the best games on earth. If you are interested in battling games, this is definitely the game for you. I also think the graphics and the realism is amazing. Great for people who love history and battles. ~ SnowEater11 from Weymouth Ma

I purchased Close Combat:A Bridge Too Far and have found it somewhat addictive. I have only a few criticisms which include: the historical footage made my system crash once and I had to reinstall some Windows Drivers. As far as play, some of the windows display too small to see comfortably even on a 17 inch monitor. You are sometimes directed to fight over the same terrain repeatedly. I was able to readily win campaigns on both German and Allied sides soon after buying the game, but then I know a little bit about close combat tactics. Some of the campaigns take a very long time to play. There is no "pause" control so you can't put the game on hold while you do a chore in the middle of a battle. Other than that I enjoy the game immensely and plan to buy the entire series.

Buy this for Close Combat II, one the best PC games ever!

Any fan of wargames should at least have one of these three great combat simulators. No other game comes close to these realistic "war is hell" games. The AI is pretty solid, and no game, even single mission, will ever be alike. Unlimited replay value.

Simply put, the best game in this whole series is CC II: A Bridge Too Far. It combines and produces to an extent all the things the first game missed and the third one forgot. I spend a lot of time reading about the European theatre of WWII, and this game is the most accurate I have ever seen.

A good book to read with this game would be "Road to Arnhem" by Donald R. Burgett. It displays an eyewitness account of what it was like to fight this battle the game simulates.

Like all good games, it will soon make its way to the bargain bin and then obscurity. Don't let this one get away.

Best Small Unit Tatcis Game to Date

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 5

These games are prehaps the best tatics games made to date. The value of this game package come from CCII and CCIII, these two games will allow you to fight battles from Belgium to Moscow. CCII and CCIII are excellent games, that greatly improve the game play over CCI and make the battlefield come to life. Game controls are easy to learn and allow the battle to move at a fast pace without you losing control of your units. I look froward to Close Combat 4.
