Yeah I love it

No the controls aren't perfect but I can't help but get so much joy out of this game. My heart warms every time I run into a familiar place from the first game and then I have to try and remember how I solved that particular puzzle. The AI is pretty brain dead. Who knew bears couldn't climb stairs? But still, turning corners and not knowing if their are wolves about to spring out at you, creates a lot of suspense that the first game had. And the graphics are just beautiful. The PS2 still has a lot of fight left in her!

Tomb Raider Legends had a lot of great elements that I missed in this game and I hope they will continue with that in the next Tomb Raider. But this is a remake of the first and I understand a lot of the choices they made.

The controls are pretty good. I can now jump to where I want to jump and not die like I did so many times in TR1. The problem is really with the camera which is sort of confusing because it was so good in Legends. Often times, the camera is way too close to Lara and you can't see if there are enemies after you. You have to constantly adjust it. It's a little annoying but nothing that would keep me from absoutely loving this game!

The only Tomb Raider games I enjoyed were the original 3 for PSone. If you loved the orginal Tomb Raider one, then you must get this game, if only for the memories. The graphics are wonderful and it comes with the same adventure as the orginal with a twist. Wonderful play!

Sharp remake of classic title

I'm not the biggest Tomb Raider fan, but I did enjoy parts 1 and 2 back in the day(although they were too hard for me), and I liked Legend. The comments that most people said about Legend, for me, were largely true: Great control, fun game, great graphics, although too short, too easy, and simplistic puzzles.

So, even though this is a "re-imagining" as they say, I was pretty surprised at the complexity of the puzzles, and the length of the game. All of which made for a far more satisfying experience than Legend.

The game retains the great graphics and control of Legend, but kicks out a number of things that Legend brought in. Not much fighting, no motorcycle sections, and not many cinemas. The story is a little elaborated on from the original(from what I remember), but it's kinda slight, and there isn't much to it. But that's not the point.

This is a hardcore puzzle/platform game of the highest order. It's very hardcore, meaning that's all there is too it really. Just gameplay and puzzles galore. If you're a bit more used to the newer cinema style games of today, this game may be a bit much for you. I could imagine that a lot of younger gamers may get a bit frustrated by going into a room, and literally taking a couple of hours figuring out what to do.

But it was a great blast from the past, and a big improvement overall. I really liked this game a lot, and had a very fun time with it.

For the next game(the sequel to Legend), they should try to strike a balance with the action, story, and glob trotting of Legend, with the amazing puzzles and length of this title. Then you would have the ultimate Tomb Raider game. Crystal Dynamics have done a very good job getting this formerly great series back on track.

great game... but it's missing something from the original

This game it a LOT better than the original if we talk about graphics, but for some reason the environments don't feel as "huge" as the ones in the original game, one example I can give is the colosseum level, even though it is more detailed it doesn't feel as big as in the original game. The game has plenty action and puzzle-solving as the original and the new moves work really well. But the big letdown (for me , at least) is the music, it not as strong as in the original game, it sounds too soft, cheesy at times.

This game is fun to play but not to listen to, so play it listening to your favorite artist and you'll have a better experience.

I am a BIG TR fan and i must say I found TR legend to be a big Disappointment. The thing I realy didnt like was that legend was the first TR game that the new company Crystal Dynamics Inc had done. It realy made me not want to buy any other TR game done by Crystal Dynamics, but then I looked at its reviews and one review made me buy it and i must say I LOVE IT, Lara is back her get out of my way or els attitudeher her passion for raiding, and guss what the Tombs are back! For anyone who plaied the orignal TR and loved it Anniversary realy brings back memories and with the more advanced graphics.... trust me this game puts it on the top of the must play list!

I found dark angel very dissappointing however with Legend and the Anniversary additions Laura is back. I enjony the graphic and the different levels evil little tricks. Especially when you come face to face with the T-rex.

For Those Who Hate Puzzle Games

I hate puzzle games, Tomb Raider or otherwise. I have not played the original Tomb Raider as most of the other reviewers so I can't say which one is better. Yet I picked this game since I wanted to play a new PS2 game but was unimpressed with the current crop of PS2 games available. God of War 2, Transformers, Harry Potter etc... simply does not appeal to me.

But Lara Croft strikes a chord because I like Angelina Jolie, the actress who stood as her movie character and also since TR Anniversary got great reviews. So I bought this one and also downloaded a free game guide from the Web. Man, was I glad I did! The guide took care of my hatred for puzzles and allowed me to direct my attention fully to the task of getting Lara accomplish her missions using incredible acrobatics and death-defying leaps in ominous and perilous locations. This game is simply amazing! Wow!

If you ever felt as if your fingers were being pricked by needles when you are in a very high place, I bet you would feel the same thing when guiding Lara jump from one ledge to another, hundreds of feet or so from the ground where one slip could mean certain death. The feeling's uncanny. I got excitedly nervous yet I cant seem to stop playing. It's gripping.

Let me share a few tips. In doing the adrenaline dodge and head shot, make sure that you also keep L1 locked for the duration of the maneuver. The guide was not clear on this. I only figured this out after dying many times against the T-Rex. To make a swan dive, run forward then tap "X" and then, as fast as you can tap "0." You can of course jump into the water in the normal manner but making Lara swan dive is just cool! It has been reported in the guide that making Lara run on the wall with the grapple rope and jump to a ledge or platform slightly behind her cause frustration on some players as Lara often falls. I found a trick that took care of this easily. As soon as you jump and hook the grapple, sway or run one time only towards the target and press jump. As long as you did not try to stop, the initial momentum should be enough and Lara will know what to do when you press jump at the end of the run. If you sway or run back and forth before jumping, Lara often miss the target and fall.

I really come to love this herione. Her voice acting is very good, too. I am just glad I have the guide to take care of the puzzles as there is so much excitement going on with the action-adventure part that splitting hairs over the puzzles would have lost all the game's excitement to me.

Great Re-creation of the Original!

TR:Anniversary is a great adaption of the original Tomb Raider with updated graphics and the new Crystal Dynamics engine from TR:Legend. Although the game utilizes the same controls and moves featured in Legend, it has the feel of the original game. I would recomend Anniversary both to those who remember the old game and those who never played the original.

The Way A Remake Should Be Done

Tomb Raider Anniversary is a perfect example of what a remake should be and should be done. This game just isn't a graphic overhaul; it's a great impovement in control (ala TR Legend), bigger maps, and general gameplay.

Players who enjoyed the original Tomb Raider on the Playstation will find many things familiar; while all gamers will also find many new aspects that keep this game fresh and exciting throughout.

Iffy camera controls are about the only real negative in the game. Some frustrating jumps and timed puzzles exist here-and-there, but that makes the game challenging.

This is a great game to own for Tomb Raider fans old and new. For the price, this game is a steal. This is what a remake should be and how remakes should be done.

Mad... but loving it

Let me get the negative thing out of my system first. The bosses in this game are horrible to beat even on the difficulty level of "easy". They've made it so you just can't "shoot" the boss anymore. You have to perform certain tricks in a certain order to win the fight. I've never been so mad at a game in my entire life. With that out of the way. I love this game. I loved the original. The graphics are great and the design of the levels is not overly complex. The levels are not even as complex as the original but that is a good thing (makes up for the boss fights). Ultimately, I can see myself playing this game again and again and I do recomend it.
