I love the game, but...

I was excited, so I had to rush out and buy this game. The first disappointment was finding out that my boyfriend and I would have to take turns on a 100 hour + game!!! After watching the game play, I immediately discovered how incomplete the game really was. It seemed as if the less important NPCs were supposed to have voices. Also, since the character roster can hold 15 characters it seems logical that my boyfriend and I at one time could have shared the game. If you want proof on how incomplete this game is; look at the patch and the fixes it makes. The list is long. However, this "unsupported patch" is still not enough to make the game enjoyable. This gives a pretty good idea on how underdeveloped this game really is. I feel as though Activison ripped me off for the second time this month with this game. They should do right by game fans and fix this game. A game I would otherwise worship. This is truly a shame.

How can a game so buggy be released?

This game wants to play well. It invites you to keep playing, but the number of bugs and the size of the bugs makes this game a total failure. One should not have to "work around" issues, such as changing resolutions when not being able to surface after swimming under water in one(so far)situation. When you try to surface, the surface of the water behaves like brick wall and you drown, but change to "software rendering", shut the game down, restart, and then you can get out! These are things that as players, we should not have to "figure out". A friendly NPC blocks your way. You're not supposed to kill him, but you HAVE to if you want to go past him. Supposedly, there is a patch that will allow you to push him out of the way. Doesn't work. What a shame, this game could have been worth it, but as is, don't waste your money.

Decent game could use a lot of improvement

While the premise and story of this game is well-thought out, there are an awful lot of bugs, as well as a clumsy interface. One thing is that the "walking" feature of this game assumes that you want to walk exactly where you want to put the cursor (such as down into the ground). There's also a "look" feature which does essentially the same thing, except you don't move, and when you stop "looking", your head does not move back. This makes quick movement adjustments and targeting monsters in combat extremely difficult. A simple automatic "view re-centering" button would greatly improve this game, but it doesn't have it. This flaw seemed worse when I accidentally attacked an NPC standing next to a bunch of monsters chewing on my party. The graphics are decent but not outstanding, although I can let that part slip considering the time this game was made. At least it did work on my standard machine. Also, I don't agree with the designers about not allowing you to save games while you are in a town (you can only save games while out adventuring). I haven't downloaded any patches yet so I don't know what other bugs I can look forward to. I will say though, that it is a worthwhile game now that the price has halved from a year ago...its not worth $... but certainly worth $... If you can get used to the difficult interface, it's about as good as the first Might & Magic games (1-4) with a bit more character interaction and quests.

Wizardry Lovers!! At long Last!

For those of us who loved Wizardry's Bane of the Cosmic Forge, here is a wonderful new game from the same creator. An immense world of magic and mayhem. Quests, character building and good old hack-n-slashing! So far an excellent game, although a bit difficult to navigate at times. And while you can "speak" with the NPC's the game is designed to limit the conversations. You are given a choice of words to "say". So there really isn't that much interaction between your characters and the NPC's. The graphics are wonderful, and as typical of Wizardry creatures there are buxom babes to slaughter. Towns are easy to navigate, as there really isn't a "town". You are given a choice of places to visit, rather reminescent of the First Wizardry game. So no wasted time spent in going from one store to the next. It is all right there. You spend your time in the vast world trying to find your way to the next adventure. I highly recommend this game. I give it 4 out of 5 stars do to the at times clumsy navigation interface. Rather difficult to move with mouse, keypad and arrows keys simultaneously.

AD&D Fans will rejoice!

This RPG is a lot like Dungeon Master, Dagerfall and Lands Of Lore, but the graphics for the monsters and locations look better, as does the changing sky as night approaches. You move up to six characters around a huge world by foot, horse, and boat meeting quest helping NPC's and fighting for your life. The interface is a bit clunky at first, the normal move with arrows and look with mouse combo is missing, also, you can only restore your position by quiting the game back to the town menu, where to save you must leave the town. Still, after you get used to the mechanics of the game I found myself having a lot of fun!

Decent. Not spectacular, but decent.

This game initally annoyed me, but once I got used to the controls and interfaces it began to be rather fun. The graphics are pretty lame... but the story is interesting and the locales intriguing. Class advancement is very nice, I like the way you can change roles and classes easily. But, one last thing- I mean, I realize that the characters in RPG's are "naked" when first created, but with the female chars this is almost the case... a bit too much skin, there. On the orc female... (shudder)...

The Best Old School CRPG

This game has it all puzzles, character advancement, and an old school Wizardry appeal. D.W. Bradley and his team done a great job. I enjoy the 3-D engine which is just seems to fit this game like a glove. A 3rd person camera view would be nice but is not needed. Stick with this game it gets better as you play it and get used to the interface. This game makes you think, what a nice change from the current click-fests available!

The best game I ever played.
