An excellent overall game. Starcraft the original had a very good story-line, with smooth graphics awsome gameplay. Broodwars the SC expansion does just that, it expands on SC adding new units such as the Lurker, Medic, Devourer, and many many more. I like SC Broodwars much better than warcraft except for the heros(WC has heros that can gain experience and levels).
I recommend this game to ANYONE who likes strategy at all. The Characters are excellent (especially the hot kerrigan) and the way that the air units interact with the ground units is way better than any Strategy game I've ever played.
Just watching the Protoss Carriers release it's swarm of aircraft is amazing in itself, but when you commanding a FLEET of Protoss carriers it is very very gratifying to see your enemies destroyed as your aircraft fly in amongst them and blast them to oblivion. And there are many awsome units in the Expansion such as the Dark Archon that can control enemy units, or the Dark Templar that is invisble with a psi sword that hits for 125(!).
Excellent purchase for your money, ESPECIALLY now that it's been out for a while.

Blizzard creates an expansion to an already hit game. Starcraft, the original version, was simply amazing. Now Blizzard added new units to make the game even better. New maps can be used and with these new units the game has improved dramatically. Terran gained two units a medic to heal all ground units as in marines ghosts and firebats and they gained a valkry (spelling may be off) Valkries are an all air unit they do not attack ground but like the terran tank when sieged they can do a great deal of splash damage. Their missiles fly out very fast and spread and I believe do 6 dammage per hit and shoot 6 rockets at a time. Protoss gained 2 units to my belief. The fusion of 2 dark templars now produces a dark archon which looks liek a regular archon but cannot attack. What it can do is paralize units and mind control them (in other words take a unit over until it dies). This although very hard to do can be very helpfull for instance if you take over a terran scv you can then build terran buildings and men. Even if you are maxed 200/200 population a new population will begin for terran units so you will have a new max of 400/400 units. COrsairs are the second unit are like valkries but never have to recharge for rockets. Zerg is the last race to get a unit I think they only got one. A tech advance for the hydra into a lurker. A lurker burrows under ground and remaisn unseen until scanned or a detector is near and sends spikes through the ground to kill ground units like marines. This unit is only good at close range and when unburrowed is useless. New Tech's are added and make this game simply amazing. IT makes me give it 5 stars.
Even better than the original

The expansion pack Brood War pushes the already great Starcraft game even further. A few new units have been added to the old spectacle. The Terrans have got a Medic, a helpful addition because their soldiers aren't particularly strong, and they also have the new Valkyrie plane, a quick assault plane. The Zerg have the Lurker, a nasty thing that can hide underground (like nearly all Zerg units) and releases its sharp spines as soon as the enemy comes too close. This unit is an excellent way to protect the Zerg bases, so that these become even more hard-to-capture strongholds. There's also the flying Devourer, a huge monster that makes the Zerg much stronger in the air than they were before (those Scourges aren't that strong, after all). But it is the Protoss who have received the most interesting additions: the great Dark Templar units that were available sometimes in the missions of the original, have now become standard units. This fast stealth attacker (he can only be seen by detector units) balances the lack of strong small infantry with the Protoss. And: just like with the familiar High Templars, two Dark Templars can fuse to a Dark Archon, a great unit that can mind-control enemies (probably, the Yuri units in Red Alert 2 have borrowed this idea). This can be an immensely powerful addition to the battle, though, as with so much in Starcraft, you have to use these units carefully. They cost a lot, after all! There are also new campaigns, with again some of the well-known great animation movies and a new, great story (And believe it or not, Sarah Kerrigan returns once again!). I find the campaigns generally harder than those in the original, but that's only good news. This add-on just has everything of the original, and then even better. Not to be missed!
Simply the best game ever!

This is still the best game that has ever been made. I hav Brood war and Warcraft 3, but Brood War is a far superior game. People often say... "but Warcraft 3 has much better graphics." People have forgotten that games are about gameplay, not graphics.
WARNING: This game is addictive. I bought Starcraft right when it came out, and still play this game. The one problem is I will soon need to buy another copy because the label is starting to get a little scrached off and my computer is having a little trouble reading it.
The game that shook the world.

I've been playing this game since 1999. My cousin introduced it to me first and I'm glad he did. When my sister went to the US, she bought Starcraft Battlechest for me as a present. It includes the Original Starcraft and the Broodwars expansion plus two strstegy guides from Prima.
This is the best game to hit planet Earth. I've been playing this game recently with my friends and cousins. I'm glad that we are able to play again after a hiatus of more than two years. Starcraft gives an incredible feeling, a rush. It's like my therapy or temporary escape from reality. I only play this once a week (Saturdays) and it is my highlight of the week. I use the Protoss. I didn't have the chemistry with the other races.
This game is highly recommended. You really have to use your head to come up with strategies to defeat your opponents. There are three races to choose from: Terran, Protoss and Zerg. Put your skills to the test by engaging a battle with your friends or you can go to Battlenet. If you want long hours of fun and challenge, go buy this game NOW before the stocks run out.

Starcraft and Brood Wars have very compelling stories for Real-Time Strategy games, so the additional chapters of the single-player story presented in this expansion are worthwhile by themselves. For multi-player games, the new units and the re-balancing of old units are crucial. The three sides are now more evenly matched and the new abilities of the new units make everything more interesting.
I can't honestly give this 5/5 for fun because RTS really isn't my thing. It does get 5/5 overall because as RTS expansions go, it gets everything right.
Best Game Period

I have been playing this game for 5 or 6 years. It is the best game period. It is somewhat difficult but not impossible to complete. Plenty of levels and missions. Good controls, great graphics for it's time and still stands up well to this day, great sound, good music, great storyline. There is a campaign editor, so after you have finished playing the regular game you can create your own game or play some of the custom games that are already provided. I keep waiting and hoping that Blizzard is going to do a quality sequel to this game and right now I am very disappointed that I have not heard anything to indicate that they are. One more thing, although system requirements does not state it, it will work on Windows XP, it has on mine anyway, without using the compatibility mode I might add. This is a great game do yourself a favor go out and buy it, now!

Wow wow wow...what can I say, if you think Starcraft is fun, you should REALLY try Broodwar, The enhancement may not be a lot, but they kinda gives everyone a little more incentive to fight. Absolutely fantastic game that still thrills me everytime I play. With hundreds or maybe thousands of map available for downloads, you can be sure of hours, days, weeks, months or even years of fun!
