Bought this game as a gift for my son. This game is unstable, appears to be an old "DOS" game. Interface is horrible - you really can't move the pieces in a visible manor. I would return it if it weren't such a hassle. My recommendation: Don't buy it!
it's okay

For $10.00 this game is alright. I wasn't expecting a lot for ten dollars. What I got was a standard chess game with lots of different boards, and some varying levels of difficulty. There isn't a heck of a lot more. Serious chess enthusiasts will not gain a lot here - no real analytical tools, nothing that will outright help you think about strategy. Beginners won't get a lot of help either. There are very easy levels, but not a lot of support for a novice.
The graphics are pretty good, and if you like to just play a game of chess against a computer, buy it. Don't expect anything out of the ordinary. If you are just killing time with a game of chess and don't care too much about graphics, better to play for free online.
Fun, but not a breakthrough in chess games

I am a chess fan, but Ill just let you know. I am really in to the new games like Half-Life 2 and DOOM 3, for the PC. I expect to play PC games that borderline my graphics card capabilities. What I'm trying to say, is that this game looks like a quickly put together game. Not surprising for a price of $10. You should never expect a great game for that price. Unless its a classic favorite, like DOOM 2. Just don't expect anything astounding from eGames 3D Chess.
It may be 3D Chess, but I've seen games with 10 fold, in better graphics.(not an actual estamate)
You can change the skin of the chess pieces and the pieces themselves(which is nice), as well as the chess boards. My only two complaints are, the extra skins can be confusing. If you choose the wrong skin for a chessboard, the chess pieces may blend into eachother as well as the board. This would have improved with better graphics. Trust me, this game is no amazing 3D game, compared to most other games these days. SO, this makes it hard to know what pieces are where, if a skin blends with the board. Fortunatly, there is a rotating camera. Another thing I am having trouble with is loading the egames website that has the extra chess set downloads (which would be a good thing if it worked). I havent recieved a response from support yet, on how to get them yet. So, the only thing keeping me playing, is my love for chess. But, I would choose any other PC game, over it.
If you really want a good chess game, check out Chessmaster 10th Edition.
Friendly Chess

It was refreshing to actually be able to beat the lowest rated opponent for once... since among friends I do ok. The graphics have attractive themes and the music is excellent. Checkers is also included, and so far I could handle the first three players. No crashes yet, and it didn't have any problem with my videocard, unlike some other less robust games.
Looks slick, plays great!

I found this to be the most "fun" chess game I've played. The 3D visuals for the different boards and piece themes are very appealing (I especially like the Egyptian theme), and the mouse interface (rotating/tilting the board view, moving pieces) is immediately intuitive. The menu interfaces are clean, colorful, and attractive. The music for each of the various board themes is high quality and interesting, but subtle so that you actually want to leave the music on while concentrating on your game. For a visually fun, accessible chess game, the different opponent AI's are actually quite strong. The lower level opponents will give beginning players a chance, the mid-level opponents are strong enough to clean my clock, and I'm sure the highest level opponents would give even very strong chess players a run for their money.
Overall, a top-quality product, and for the price, you can't go wrong.
A great gift for your chess nut!

If you have a chess lover on your gift list this season, this is one game you'll want to buy!
The art is stunning and the game boards are realistic with their 3D effects. The different levels are increasingly challenging --giving players (like me) who aren't chess masters an opportunity to improve their game while offering a serious challenge to those who have better skills.
Great fun! Check it out, you'll be glad you did.

When my wife brought this game home last week, I thought, 'okay, it's just another chess game -- how good could it possibly be?!' But to be honest, this game was a blast! (My wife just ordered several more -- one for my daughter's teacher and one for her dad -- one of those chess fanatics.) I liked being able to customize my board and pieces. The graphics were cool and added to my game experience without getting in the way. The game play made sense. I found this game to be a welcome break from the high gore/brainless/no strategy games that flood the market right now. I'll be looking for more games from Magic Lantern -- good stuff.
Great Fun and Value

More than I expected for $10.
Don't know what mconstruction7 is seeing. It is in 3D, is very stable and requires DirectX 9, certainly not a "DOS" game.
