Tekken is morphing!!

"YES!! TEKKEN 5" I yelled at the top of my lungs, running to the arcade to get my sweaty hands on top of those already greasy smelly , germ filled joysticks....I would go through anything to play a new Tekken game...or so I thought. Nevertheless when heading to the arcade it was already packed (duh japan right). Though I waited my turn and eventually headed to the station. When first playing the game I was amazed by the graphics but was equally discouraged due to the terrible music....Its like cheap techno made by pots and pans. Anyways everyone their seeing me as a foreigner laughed their asses off when seeing me sit down....Wondering why I soon did. Picking some of my favorite characters like Jin and Kazuya and even Law I lost everytime no contest. But I then picked Raven (One character I never experienced due to the newness of the game). I said what the hell and just started going berserk on the keyboard....What do you know I beat the opponent and was feeling proud...Well not really. All I did was press a whole bunch of buttons. It feels like Tekken is changing. Me being the giant Tekken fan I am (Not big enough to make my own joystick pad)* knew that playing Tekken was no laughing matter and it took all skill from what I remember. But Tekken 5 has turned a new coin over. As I pulled out my few more yen out for exchange for tokens I immediatley stopped my hand for the outcome of that deed. I knew what was going to happen. Either I randomly press buttons and win or play like I mean it and loose. So I waited until my friend got it. I bought it too around 4 weeks ago being in the heart of Tokyo but I was confused on what Namco is doing. I called up some of my friends and we e-mailed the Namco designers themselves. They described their need in changing Tekken from its former self. If I recall Soul Calibur and its series was full of pointless punching and kicking and took no skill at all. Similar to the great hit Guilty Gear which involved no skill whatsoever. So what do I do...I complain my heart out. Tekken is turning into sh*ty old Soul Calibur who wants that. The music sucks and so does the fighting systems. I loved the old Tekken I think i'll just stick to that. I am a diehard tekken fan and still love tekken but whoever you are rent tekken before you waste your money. If only I could get my hands on Soul Reaver!!

Not my style of fighting game

I am a big fan of Soul Calibur 2 and before that the Street Fighter series, but this game was disappointing. The graphics are lackluster with inconsistent framerates and the controls are awkward. I found the D-pad control to step toward and away from the screen particulalry frustrating. The game is very similar to Dead or Alive Ultimate, which I also disliked. Try renting to make sure you like it.

Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Graphics overhaul, but audio is neglected

To be sure, the graphics have had the most significant update since Tekken 2. And Namco was very careful to keep the gameplay mechanics perfectly in tact.

However, the Tekken 5 BGM tracks didn't seem to keep pace with the innovation. A few good songs here and there, but overall, not a cohesive OST.

tekken 5 is a little bit corny

This is the best game ever, but it's corny, like me. So please god, BUY IT !!! You will be disappointed, but you'll be happy while you're disappointed. My favorite part in the game is when you get to actually fight, but the Tekken games are getting a little old. I mean, come on !! Is there anybody who knows what the heck Tekken means ?? So, the bottom line is that this game is pretty entertaining, especially if you're a Tekken fan. But new Tekken players beware!! Find out what a Tekken is first before you play !!

Teken 5 rocks!!

Looking for a good way to waste all your free time and get carpultunnel too?
Play Tekken 5!

Graphics are good - not great, but good. Colors are smoother, the levels are more dimensional and affected by lighting, etc. Almost on par with Xbox... However, something kind of bothers me with the new look. It's kind of like they wanted to recreate the classics, in part. Some characters, and some locations, just feel "old". They look good, but sometimes resemble past Tekken models with buttered up graphic affects. Maybe its just me. I don't know. It just feels...different. Not quite what I expected; but I'm not really dissapointed, either. Kind of a confusing review, huh?

Anyhoo, overall I think Tekken 4 was a better fighter in terms of Vs battles with a friend. The only downside to 4 was gay costume designs (Marduk and his green tighs, Violet and his homo-teletubby suit. Not to mention the old guy in the diaper - ugh) and Steve was waay to good. Nobody else stood a chance when I took Steve - the guy's a powerhouse, and has a countermove for every player.

Tekken 5 is more imaginative in enviroments and look, however. Its darker, grittier, and more realistic. Makes me wonder what PS3 holds in store, and what Tekken 6 will be like...

Well, I guess I gotta recommend the thing. I button mashed my way through the game a lot already, just like Tekken 4. It sure is fun...just makes your fingers feel like they're filled with cement after you're done. So, if you get it, just be sure you're able to pull yourself away.

Happy Fighting!

Note for pansies - er, people concerned I mean - Rated Teen for Violence, Sexual Themes, Language, and Alcohol/Tabacco Usage. Really, from what little I've seen, it's a bloodless beat-em-up with hot chicks (Christie - wow, if only you could customize her costume to be non-existant!) and the language equivalent to a TV show. That's bout it.

Peace out, game heads.

Can be very frustrating!!

Sure it looks good and the gameplay is ok but the final boss (Jinpachi) is really cheap and lame! Even at the "easy" difficulty, just a couple of hits from this freak and you're dead! The Devil Within mini-game is also stupid, some levels are just impossible and too hard. I wouldn't mind it if you could save your game whenever you want to or at least just before some critical part of the game but unfortunately that is not the case here, not to mention some save points are hidden. Imagine getting through the most boring levels doing extremely tedious yet dumb puzzles, spending around 2 hours or more to get to the boss level, then finally finding yourself trying over and over to beat the boss until you just give up but you can't save your game, then you're gonna have to redo the entire level again!!! That is one sick stupid game design! The only reason I'm playing this mini-game is just to get the hidden items.

Could have been better

I'm a huge Tekken fan and an arcade expert. This one could have been better if it was Tag 2 but it still kicks butt. The music is the second worst in the series after the first game, and it would have been great to see your win loss record instead of just your ranking and online play would have been a boost. I still recommend it to teens only it is not a game for kids under 15 seriously they should stick with their crappy DBZ games.

This game is a great fighting game. Modesty issues!!!

This game is a great fighting game. I have serious problems with the dress of at least 2 of the female characters. Someone mentioned that you can earn points to dress them properly. It takes a lot of points just to buy gloves and hats, so don't think this will change unless you play this game every night to earn the points. I know for a fact that they have different outfits, but the standard ones for some are very exposing of certain female body parts. There is also a pool side scene that has bikini girls cheering on the fighters. Not good either!

Be sides that, this game is pretty solid for older people, not for kids unless you can protect their eyes from the above concerns.
