Wow, you people aren't too bright. SRS obviously didn't include Honda and Acura for the soul reason of Honda or Acura not allowing them to. You have to have an agreement with the company before you put their product in a video game.. maybe they wanted too much money or didn't like the way the vehicles were portrayed in the game.. or maybe they sold rights to NFS. Ever think of things like that? Naw, too busy busting on the creators who are trying to make a fun game for street racing enthusiasts. As for for models, they are a key feature to the import racing world. Models are all over the pages of import magazines.. so stop trying to make it look like a cheap way of getting people to buy it. SRS = great game.. leave it alone!

A lot of people are comparing this game to Need for Speed Underground which is the first, and greatest mistake. NFSU is completely arcade, take any car, throw in a huge engine, some Nitrous some new tires and it is a dream to drive and gollygee, what the heck a Mazda Miata can outperform a Nissan Skyline! Sounds realistic!
Yeah right.
Street Racing Syndicate is simply put the most realistic racing game that I have played. In many ways it surpasses the bench mark of the genre Grand Turismo series. Taking a Nissan 350z, throwing in the appropraite electronic parts, Greddy Intercooler and turbo will get you a whopping 848 bhp and 766 lb/ft of torque. It will also get you spinning out instead of going straight, slamming into everything in sight and around the corner, like a newspaper stand, street light and even the 18 wheeler that failed to get out of the way. In fact, equipping the car with too much power, making a poor suspension choice, or ignoring it all together will get the hilarious result of going into a corner getting on the throttle after neatly clipping the apex and then getting a nice rollover and damaging the car beyond belief, and you will be paying for damage both in terms of performance and in money.
In graphics it does look stunning, although I do not buy the whole shiny street thing as all the streets that I have ever driven on are dull gray except when covered with ice. The sound is not THX and putting on a JIIC exhaust will not change the sound.
However any flaws in the game are blown away by this one simple fact: Buy any car in the game and drive it. It requires thinking about every corner, gear change and curb before entering the corner or you will spin out, smash into something and lose the race. Careful attention must be paid to what parts you install on the car as well. Selecting the wrong exhaust system means you won't get as much power as you could get.
The best thing about this game is that it is focused on racing in a way that no other game, except Grand Turismo, does. There are not a billion ways to make your car look "cool", nor are there a billion ways to cheat physics. You have to know how to drive and you have to know the difference between BF Goodrich and Yokohama tires, learn fast or lose. The cars handle the same in Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec on simulation tires as they do in SRS. Simply put, this is the game to have until GT4 comes out. Everything else is just fantasy make believe for people that don't love to drive and work on cars. As my friend always says, Ea makes games for ricers and SRS is for Racers.
People are way too critical

This game is supposed to be fun, not complicated. I mean how serious could they be if you can pimp your own girls and crap like that. The racing end of it doesn't compare to NFSU but it has much more. One thing is they have actual cities which is one thing I hated about NFSU which just had some random scenery. Also the performance upgrades are way better, with much more options. You can drive around the city looking for races and can also get busted by the cops which I thought was tight and creative. Unlike other reviewers I thought it was a good thing that there was no hondas or acuras. Not because I hate them since I have an Acura Integra myself. But they are the most common modified imports on the street so I was glad to see other cars. Such as the Lexus IS 300 which I was hoping to see on a racing game. All in all I think you should get this ig you just want to have fun with it and not take it so seriously like other people. I definitley recommend it.

I just bought this game a few days ago...while reading the other reviews i thought that this game was just as good as NFSU, actually, Better. It doesn't have all the parts and the best sounds and the Skyline sounds a like a wind up toy...
This game is better then i expected. It's nothing like NFSU, you choose between Street Races, Crew Meets, Respect Challenges and more. Once you get the money, you can purchase all the best parts and cars. After playing for about 1 1/2 weeks, after school and in my spare time i've unlocked most of the cars and have a WRX, STi, Skyline GTR, Supra turbo & twin turbo.
Also, the steering and races are very realistic, In this game you actually need to learn to use your brakes and when to accelerate or your car will spin out. Once you get a high horsepower car you need to learn to keep control, especially at higher speeds.
Over all i would recommend this game to anyone and everyone. Those who like any kind of racing game will be satisified (read "Tire Smoking Blast" that's a good review also)

I would not suggest this game for a few reasons. One, it's confusing; the game's auto save feature does not display itself so you're confused if your progress is saved or if you're starting from square one.
Another reason is that I don't think the people that produced this game took physics in High School because if you spin out, you have to stop COMPLETELY and then reverse if need be. This means that if you're racing against an aggressive driver, you need to practically total your car to win the race.
Their lack of selection of cars is horrible. They have between 5-10 manufacturers total and the selection is horrible.
The graphics are ok but looks like it was thrown together at the last minute.
If you're buying the game to play online, I can't help you out there because I haven't had the chance to play it online yet.
I would recommend that you either buy Need for Speed Underground or Need for Speed Underground 2. I'm really psyched about NFS Underground 2 coming out and it's worth the wait to pre-order it rather than buy this game. Namco should not release another racing game. This one's an embarrassment.
However, just like the Need for Speed series, the game is very interesting and somewhat addictive.
No rice racers! Finally!

Thank god they didn't put Hondas and Acuras in and didn't get the licensing. congrats on the Evo kit to your car, i heard body kits give you extra horsepower. lol...thank god one game had the sense to take rice racers off a RACING game. just because you duct tape a 7-11 big gulp cup to your exhaust and make it sound like a dying lawnmower doesn't mean we have to listen to it in the game. i've never seen ONE honda that wasn't overly obnoxious to listen to drive. go back to the old muscle
Ok but lacking something

The best I can say is that this game is fun. Now with that said, how in the world can you make a game called "Street Racing Syndicate" if you don't include the biggest and most known car makes like Honda and Acura. That would be like making a football game and not putting the Cowboys but instead putting in the Rhein Fire. Or like producing a baseball game and not including the Yankees or Braves. Just to clear the air, I'm a fan of none of the teams mentioned but they are the ones you love to hate and most people I think who don't own a Honda or Acura love to hate them. If you expect me to pay $45+ for a game and seriously compete with the soon to be released GT4 you've got to do better. Great plan to get this out before GT4 because if you waited much longer it would be in the $15 and under pile before the CD copiers got cold.
I too don't get the wet looking roads theme. Didn't need that effect because it makes me feel the tires won't grip no matter the type. The only reason why this game is selling in big numbers (rental and retail) is because of the models. I ain't gonna lie, I'm gonna buy it just for that fact. I guess the guys at NAMCO started playing their game and realized it wasn't gonna live up to the expectations of the cover and name given so they decided to get 18 models to wiggle around to spice it up.
There are good parts to the game (graphics and music) but it appears like they ran out of time and tried to beat out GT4 release regardless of overall game quality (variety of parts and types of cars)
Bottom line.. if you can't create a racing game with the cars and brand names that revolutionized the import racing scene and made it what it is today.. a game that can hold up the weight of the title they bestowed upon it, then get a mix of hot chics who will get progressivly less dressed and dance for you to basically save your investment/jobs. DON'T GET IT TWISTED NAMCO YOUR SALES AREN'T BASED ON GAMEPLAY. Most will agree with me and say you could have done better.
Rueben, I do like your review and I too own an Integra.. '94. I'm glad they didn't depend exclusively on Honda & Ac but they could have at least included them. You said you were glad Honda wasn't included here but in your review of NFSU you said "I only wish they would have had a honda prelude in it.." Why is it ok for 1 game but not the other? You have to admit not having Honda & Ac is a BIG oversight/omission for a claimed import scene based racing game. For what they could have done with this title but didn't shows A) they were rushed and B) they have no clue about the import scene.. oh but they got the girls right & I applaud them for that. $45+ for fun, ok whatever watch the price for drop like ENRON after Nov. I wanted to point out that this is an incomplete game for racing gamers who expect better than just ok. Save your money.. possibly for GT4 which I'm just about sure, unlike SRS, won't come out lacking so much potential in Nov.
The cars aside, for parts where's names like INJEN, Nology, DC Sports, TOYO, Skunk2, etc. COME ON.. only 1 choice in spark plugs, wires, and exhaust header? Only 2 brands of tires, shocks & mufflers? OH.. but there's probably over 60 options for rims and maybe 10 vinyls that dont add 1 hp nor shave 0.1 sec off your 0-60 time. See what I mean! Your car can look as pretty as you want but if it can't throw down then what's the point. The above mentioned aspects are why I feel this game is too focused on pretty points.
Don't get me wrong, I don't expect the entire NOPI catalog, but in order to tune to race online there needs to be more variety. That way I can leave the other person with the $100K+ Skykline with all the high-end hook ups scratching his head and cursing as to why he gets consistantly beat by my Supra with the properly tuned parts. Notice I didn't say a Trueno beating a Skyline, they were able to keep game play somewhat realistic for video game standards & that adds to the fun. You do need a good car to compete later on. A few more parts, a few more cars could have made this a must buy at any price.
I'm not here to hate on you. You didn't make the game and I'm not totally disgusted with it. You are a NFSU fan and I'm a GT3/4. Overall, the game is ok and ok doesn't net 5 stars to me.. thats too generous.

I was really excited to see this game on the shelf the day it came out and personally I'm a bit upset with the outcome of this one. It is almost like Need for speed underground but with tons less of parts and manufactures to choose from. the cars performance on screen does not give you that in depth speed and sound that NFSU does either. the cartoon graphics too. overall if you don't have need for speed underground, that would be a much better title than this and if you do have that then don't get this one, you'll just be upset. remakes are not cool. this game gets 2 thumbs down. crap!!

I think the people listed below are not getting a license soon because if they think that is what driving a fast car is like than the insurance companies are screwed when they get old. 3 Stars for the fun of the game. Simply, buy a car play around with the aftermarket parts (needs more manufacturers like Tokico, H&R, Toyo, etc) and race crews, individuals or race to win girls. The girls have to be the funniest part, they actually have videos of them dancing as themselves not cartoon images. Shame on the boy below who almost compared this to GT3 genre, not even close. If you think pulling an e-brake when entering into a 90 degree turn at 165mph is possible than go hit the track and stay off the streets. Graphics are good, don't like the shiny streets, probably just makes it easier to see as you drive at night mostly. Damage is cool cause it keeps you legit from just bashing around every stage. In my opinion its a renter game as you can accomplish much in a short time. Something that has become expected with PS2 games. Wait for GT4 for the racing simulation game to buy
