Part One of a Trilogy hatched by Gathering of Developers, Rustin Parr is a game developed by the same guys responsible for bringing us Nocturne. Lets start with the review then:
Story: Rustin Parr murdered 5 children in a town called Burkitsville. After killing and mutilating the bodies, he walks backs to town claiming "it's complete now..." Ms. Halliday, a member of Spookhouse (from Nocturne), is assigned to investigate the supernatural link to the murders.
Gameplay: Gameplay is like Nocturne too but this one has a lot more puzzle solving a more involving storyline. Gameplay is done on a third person view. There's a lot of action involved too. You're armed with regular guns and rifles and the more specialized Spectral Pulse Sensor- a device which tracks spectral emanations. Action is tense since it usually revolves around "surprises" like monsters suddenly jumping out of windows, or ghosts popping out of your bathroom when you open the door. Unlike other adventure games where you see the enemy ahead of you. This one relies on a complete shock heart attack way of bringing in the enemies to you.
Environment/ambiance I must say is the best quality of this game. It's just so creepy. A lot of the creepiness has to do with the sound effects and the music. You'll hear voices wailing, you'll hear thunder and lighting randomly. The sound drops to a silence and then suddenly you hear the crack of lighting and thunder. I must say I dropped my mouse several times whenever this happened. Spooky. Very spooky.
Graphics: How do I describe it. Looks exactly like Nocturne. It's 2D pre-rendered background and the character is 3D. Most of the areas are quite dark but it adds so much quality and game experience into it.
System Requirements: Since this was built on the Nocturne engine, the user has to have a powerful system, at least PIII600 with a 32mb video card. Anything less, and this game will stutter all night long. NOcturne engine is notorious for hogging so much system resources and as such this game has it too. Low end computer users should stay away from this game. Mid and High end users will enjoy the graphic benefits of the engine.
Overall: Blair Witch Rustin Parr is a good gaming experience. It's not your Resident Evil type of game because this one has more depth and of course better voice acting. The environment/ambiance level is top-notch. I've never played a game as spooky and as creepy as this one. Try using a pair of headphones with the lights off while playing this game and you'll know what I mean. This game is not recommended for people with heart conditions.
This is a good buy.

What a wonderful addition to the growing multimedia experience in the Blair Witch Saga!
Blair Witch- Rustin Parr adds a more indepth look into the events surrounding the Rustin Parr murders of 7 Burkitsville children. As special government agent Doc Holliday, you investigate Burkittsville, discovering more and more about Parr and the evil that infests the woods and the town.
But that's hardly the half of it. Combine spectacular effects such as chilling sounds, a creepy 3D enviorment, the Blair Witch hoopla, and a wild imagination (oh yeah, a fast processor and unfortunately a chunk of memory come in handy to), Blair Witch 1 will have you almost as intrigued as you will be spooked.
I recommend playing it at night with the lights off. It really adds effect. This tinge of mood in the air is lost during the day obviously.
Can't wait for the next 2 games in the series to come out! BW 1: Rustin Parr hopefully atests to the fulfillment in a heart thumping gaming experience with the next two in the series!
Good Atmosphere/music

After having just played the very interesting demo, I must say this game is going to be very good if it is like this. While I had my doubts the Nocturne engine is perfect for giving a dark and moody setting that this game needs, along with the frighteningly scary sound effects and graphics. Although originally the Nocturne engine required high specs like the person below said, they are modifying the engine for this game to make it less demanding. Overall it should be an interesting experience, and you can't beat the price. Download the demo and see what I mean.
Continues the mythology of the series

This game should be a hit with those who were intrigued by the story of the Blair Witch. I heard that the games will be released serially, one a month, culminating in an October release that should coincide with the next movie.
This one deals with Rustin Parr, the guy who built the house the kids wound up in in the first movie. It uses the same spooky graphics engine that Nocturne used.
Scary but didn't need action scenes.

Blair Witch: Rustin Parr is an excellent scarefest. As soon as I started looking for clues in the dark, my hair started to stand on it ends! The sounds and the shadows make this a must see.
However, it seems like it was designed as a sequel to Nocturne. You have to go through "zombie" killing training and there is a "dream" sequence where you must kill zombies. This ruined the story for me. Blair Witch is effective when it is about what you can't see.
If they would have left the "killing" and the graphic violence out, this would have been an effective adventure game, on the lines of Kings Quest. I give this came a B-.
Fun.....to a point

I purchased the first two volumes of the Blair Witch game series and while I am impressed with the graphics and gameplay, the programs themselves leave alot to be desired. Both games were playable to a certain point and then a bug would come into play. The game would crash, and I am left frustrated. Going on the developers website revealed no patches, but reading the past chat forums told me I am not the only one with the crashing problem and there are other gamers who are equally frustrated. I seldom buy PC games but since I am a fan of the "survival-horror" genre I gave them a try. However, with the problems I have experienced with these two I understand now why the typical gaming platforms i.e Playstation, Nintendo, etc, are far more popular then the PC. Which is a shame because the power a PC has to offer is much more substantial. But since I have never been playing a Playstation game and had it shut down on me in the middle of play, I think that is what I'll stick to.....
A great game, even if your not a fan of Blair Witch

Now before you past judgement on this game because of the title, just listen to what is said and give it a try. The story fits beautifully in 1930's, the game play is resident evilish with different camera angles to give it that feeling that something is around the corner........ because it probably is. The game play is excellent as long as you learn the controls. But every game is like that.
All I can say is if you loved or liked The blair witch (1,2) then this game is a given, if you didn't but still like games of horror then you will still enjoy this game. Trust me. The children of Burkitsville trusted Rustin Barr.

For [the price], one could expect the quality in a game like that of Deer Hunter - a game your dog could play drunk on NyQuill. BW: Rustin Parr however is a real treat that encapsulates the Blair Witch theme.
Terminal Reality's Rustin Parr is actually based on their Nocturne engine, a diamond in the rough adventure game which came out many months ago. The first edition in this three part series from Godless Goofs, I mean God Games. Coupled with an excellent storyline and TR's excellent Nocturne interface, the game play is easy after you figure out how to effectively use the interface.
Timelined in the early fourties, you play Doc Holiday, a character from Nocturne, to investigate the murders of Parr. There are lots of scary moments, hair-raising sounds, which gives you a true sense thas this was a well thought out adventure. Mind you, you will have to spend a lot of time running through the forest, but there are lots of clues to pick up along the way to keep the game interesting.
...I would however like to see a good forum for this game like other companies are now doing for their products. I want to talk about this game with other players.
Good!

The first person to review this could not have known how the game was because it wasn't out to buy yet. It is probably going to be a great game!

Frankly I am SHOCKED that this game received so many great reviews! The game seems to have a good story line and the graphics seem decent, but your control on your character movement is pitiful!!! Everytime your character walks a few feet, the frame changes....your character may have had the camera view behind her (which I prefer), and then when you move to a new frame, the camera may be in front of you. So often you're looking at your character as a mirror image and your cursor to control your character is reversed...then next frame, you could find your charter side ways! It's insane! I suppose you could program the controls for all mouse-clicking instead of using curor keys to move your character, but I hate mouse-click movement games...my finger gets tired! :-) My frustration was so great, that I never completed the first mission. As far as "puzzle" games go, I've enjoyed "Dracula - The Last Sanctuary," and "The Longest Journey." Unfortunately, they have a lot of frame changes and point and click as well, but at least the camera consistantly follows my character!
