Great Flight Simulation, Heavy Aircraft Bias

This simulator is perhaps one of the most realistic simulators I have experienced on any given PC. I find that the sense of movement goes along way to imparting a sense of actually flying to the virtual pilot. In addition the rendering of the aircraft is beautiful.
The one glaring flaw is an apparent bias in favor of all things Russian, specifically the aircraft. Not only are their more Soviet aircraft, but more irritating is the performance edge they all seem to have against the best U.S. fighters. I have over 330 hours in a NA P-51D and I can assure the reader that this edge is purely imagined. Of course if one looks at the IL-2 game developers it becomes apparent that the vast majority are themselves Russians, and thus perhaps this bias is somewhat understandable, however nauseating at times. Since when does a Yak-3 out dive a Mustang? Luckily I have not had an elevator depart the airframe in a dive approaching 500 mph (in the real P-51), yet this has happened in IL-2.
Have fun, but take the aircraft performance with a grain of salt.

I was skeptical at first when deciding to purchase IL2 forgotten Battles for my PC. However now I agree that this game far exceeds my expectations! Compared to my other sims by Microsoft, IL2 is far more superior in grafics, realism and overall enjoyment. Am looking foward to playing next version of this game or something as comparable. I will continue to search Amazon for new games of this genre. Amazon's handling of my purchase was quite "nice".

At the bottom of page 2 of Pacific Fighter's User Manual appears the following:
"NOTICE: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some CD-RW, DVD-RW, and virtual drives."
BELIEVE IT!!!
I'm running a Pent IV with a 3.00GHz processor (XP) and DVD/CD writer combo and have spent days trying to load the Gold Pack and Pacific Fighters. After loading, my odds of getting the game to actually come up are about 1 in 10 and it takes a minimum of ten minutes with each try. I wasted my time and money. I can't even play it as a stand-alone game. I'll find some other software to use with my CH Fighter Stick or it will be a waste as well.

This sim takes the stunning flight models, damage models, graphics and AI routines from the original IL2 Sturmovik to another level. This sim is a MUST for any combat simmer and especially any prop head. With a well established community of highly talented (read in user made utilities, missions, campaigns and beautifully rendered aircraft skins) almost rabid faithful fans and an online base that is second to none, this sim will continue the tradition set by Oleg Maddox and 1C Maddox Games in IL2 for years to come. The Forgotten Battles GOLD pack contains both IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles and the Forgotten Battles Aces Expansion Pack add on in one package.
With a very flexible Mission Builder you can create several types of highly detailed missions from ground attack, recon, bomber or ship escort, CAP and much more. Add to that:
*The ability to record viewable tracks either on the fly or after the mission is done.. depending on whether or not you are online.
*24 settable levels of difficulty ranging from no death no crash no damage to locked in the cockpit with your head on a swivel.
*Scalable controls for the guy with the $300 HOTAS setup... or the guy with the $39 bargain stick....
*Scalable settings so that if you have a 4 year old CPU on a 4 year old video card you can fly..... if you have a top of the line mega system you can REALLY fly......
*Offline or online play... with as many planes in the air as your CPU can handle... up to 128....
*Grphics, damage models (including fuel leaks, hydraulic failure etc) and flight models that are un equalled in any WW2 era air combat simulator. Commandable AI that, while stupid at times.. with the right mix of numbers and skill levels can present a challenge to just about anyone.
*A clock that runs in real time.
*A complex engine management feature that includes working radiators, all control surfaces, superchargers and mixture controls (On the plaes that had them) and several other programmable controls to make your simming experience as realistic as can be had on a desktop PC with today;s technology.

This is a good game but the graphics are looking dated, even when setings on their highest. I really purchased this as an add-on to Pacific Fighters, which is also produced by Ubisoft. The level of realisim and flight models are supurb but the control setup and user interface would be very difficult for the novice, desktop flyer. Overall a good sim.
Great and well worth it!

If your going to buy a combat flight sim buy this. Replay, graphics, gameplay, everything is surpurb to anything Microsoft puts out there except FS2004 which is not a combat flight sim.
.........and when you purchase this great bundle buy Combat over Europe and Pacific Fighters to go along with it. Endless gameplay and missions and if you still get bored you can download user-made missions for this game on NetWings.com!
Never gets boring or old!
Overall, it doesn't get any better than this when it comes to WWII combat flight sim's!
Take my word for it!
Truly Awesome

Forgotten Battles (FB) is truly awesome with its amazingly realistic graphics. The detail to aircraft (including cockpit interior)will delight the WWII buff and the sunlight effects are stunning and realistic. You can zoom in and out, and have internal and external views. You will however, need to ensure your computer and graphics card can handle the requirements of the game. The flight model can be adjusted to suit ones own individual skill or pleasure levels. Pilot career campaigns can be created from a whole range aircraft including Stuka, Heinkel 111, ME109, IL2, I16, MIGs etc, although these aircraft could be upgraded during the pilots career. Once you start to amass a tally, the game has you going back for more to increase your tally. Many variety of aircraft can be encountered, including Gladiators, P40 Kittyhawks, P39 Airacobras, JU88s etc. In the midst of combat on bomber aircraft you can take up the postion of gunners and attempt to shoot down marauding fighters. My only gripe is that there is no strategic element to the game and there is no way you can influence the outcome of the war, but then again the air war on the Eastern Front was almost entirely a tactical affair. Perhaps the creators of the game will have a strategic element in the proposed Battle of Britain game. The FB game includes a Quick Mission builder and a Full Mission Builder. The game will certainly provide many hours of enjoyment.
