As well as it being a game to home your logic, zoombini's can also be extremely fun. In a way there is nothing so satisfying as watching zoombini's whoop in delight after completing a whimsical and different puzzle. The game is challenging, interesting, constructive and fun. A good buy for young kids.

For a patient child, my eight year old stayed on this game for several hours. It teaches math and logic skills without the child feeling like they are being taught. The game offers rewards along the way for acheiving partial steps and allows creative play for each adventure. It also allows for partnering during the game as we played together to solve the puzzles. Not a heavy handed teaching program.

I think it is so good because the adventures are fun and I learned a lot! This is the only game that my dad would let me play for hours without kicking me off his computer. I enjoy the game not just because of the cute looking Zoombinis but also how it forces me to focus and think, to observe and figure out the patterns. The most enjoyable psrt of the game is to make pizza for Arnold and Willa.

My 10 year old son loved this so much at school we ordered a copy for home - and for his 72 year old grandmother who also loves it. Teaches logic while having fun. A must have!

The description on Amazon says this game works with Windows XP. But now that I received it, the back of the jewel case says it is NOT compatible with XP.
I was so disappointed and I thought the game must be really outdated, but we borrowed an old laptop with Win98 and the game is terrific.
Most likely to become the greatest computer game of all time!

I am currently seventeen and I have been playing this game ever since it came out back in 1996. It's such a wonderful fun-filled educational game (which is hard to find nowadays.). The puzzles and levels aren't simple but not extremely complicated either. Sometimes they'll be so obvious and sometimes my mom isn't even able to figure them out (and she's a CPA!). But it overall does even out between the two, creating a great game. If you are a parent of kids eight and up, I'd definently reccomend this game. Younger children can play, too, but it may be a bit tough for them still, especially when they reach the "Very, Very Hard" level (Trust me, this part gets tough!). Even as parents, you may even find yourself playing this game! Overall, this is an excellent game that is not only fun, but indeed educational.
This thing (the 1996 version) does NOT run on XP !!!

This game originally came out in 1996 and the cheap versions you see listed came out THEN, and are designed for computers with older "stuff" for playing sounds and graphics (windows 95 instead of XP or 98).
I am trying to do a school project with this software and I feel like an angry monkey trying to use it on Windows XP, and trying to follow the advice of other users. If you are just a regular person (like maybe a school teacher trying to do a report for grad school!!!!!) then DO NOT order this version. I am sure there is SOME way to get this to work, but I can't figure it out and I do not feel like crashing my computer. I have just ordered the version Amazon sells at this time for $7.97 that says it is made for Windows XP. I will write a review of that one to let you all know how it works out, and save you folks the anguish and shipping costs of an obsolete disc. You're welcome.

During PRe-Algebra class at school, our teacher told us that our assignment today was to play this math game. Like the other so-called 'games', I thought this was going to be another dumb and boring one. However, this is loads of fun! It challenges your mind and makes it fun. I would recommend this to anybody trying to get a reluctant child to learn or improve their math.
my 3 year old loves it

Third Zoombinis title!

As one of the biggest Zoombinis fans on the planet, I was really excited to find out that The Learning Company was making a third Zoombinis title, though not as surprised as when I had found out about the second. This game has fewer puzzles than the first two, but includes science, while the others were just math and logic. There are seven different puzzles, each with three levels of difficulty. Once you perfectly beat a puzzle on one level three times, you are upgraded to the next skill level for that puzzle. Unlike the first two, however, you are able to step down from a higher level if it is too hard, then go back up any time. This makes it so that you are not afraid to do well. There are two puzzles based on games from "Logical Journey", as happened to several in the sequel, "Mountain Rescue." The plot this time involves returning to the homeland, which the Bloats, mean Viking-type creatures, have evacuated after chasing you out (at the beginning of the first game, Logical Journey). They have left the environment a mess, so the Zoombinis must return to save the creatures living there. This game was much easier than the others, and only took me five days to beat (at one to two hours per day), whereas I would have to play for five days straight to beat the first game, requiring you to keep playing harder puzzles and get about three times the Zoombinis through nearly twice as many puzzles. The graphics have, once again, been upgraded, making older computers unable to play it (though newer computers have trouble playing the original editions of the first game). The puzzles involve absolutely nothing dealing with the Zoombinis' physical features, unlike the predecessors, mainly based around their traits. This means that you can make all 240 Zoombinis exactly the same, which is humorous, but confusing. The puzzles are all based on the Zerbles' bodily characteristics, the flower types, or some other thing of nature. This new science concept makes up the other five puzzles, of which my favorite is the "Planetarium". In the planetarium, you must put in coins to make the earth revolve an hour at a time. The sun must also be aligned to hatch cocoons at certain angles. In the higher levels, you have to deal with dollar bills, which make up days, and the cocoons can only hatch in certain lunar phases. Some of the other fun and educational puzzles cover Venn diagramming (overlapping circles), dominating genes in reproduction, synchronizing mechanics, and decoding symbols by identifying patterns. The ending isn't too exciting, just a congratulation message from the narrator. The graphics present a new idea about Zoombinis- their genders are now apparently determined by their eyes, not their hair, as in games one and two. This means that boys can have a ponytail, which is more popular today than when the first game premiered. It also means that girls can be bald, which looks awfully strange. Previously boys always had at least some little hairs on their heads. Despite all of the large changes, "Zoombinis Island Odyssey" remains similar to the first and is almost as much fun, integrating even more educational value. If you liked this game, try the first two, "Logical Journey" and "Mountain Rescue."
