This game is defiantly worth it. It has a great shoreline backed up with a lot of missions so you will get some good playing time out of it. Even after you're done with the every mission, skirmishes never get old and don't get me started on the multiplier -->(better than life.)
I suggest when you get this game (Which you better do), download an improved AI for the skirmishes. Look for the highest rated units on http://unituniverse.com/
And get the Conflict Crusher to fix any problems. It will add even more playing time and make it even more of a challenge.
I got this game when was 9, so I've been playing it for 10 years now. If I had to choose one game to be nominated as "The Best Game on the Planet" I would choose this one.

The developers of Total Annihilation did a superb job of putting all the elements of classic strategic warfare and making it all fun to play, and enjoyable either in single or multi-player. There are little complaints here. The only thing I didn't like was that both ARM and CORE (the main races in the game) share exactly the same units. But this weakness wanes when compared to the shear fun, joy, and overwhelming action and strategy this game emanates. It is truly one of the best games of all time and a worthy contender of a timeless classic. If you don't have time to play it, then at least make it part of your library just for the shear respect... Seriously.
IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES GAMES I EVER PLAYED

Battle Tactics, the second expansion pack of the game (not a separate version) is a missions expansion pack featuring a LOT of stand-alone, separate missions (in other words, not part of a larger story). The missions are split into three (if I remember correctly) categories based on approximate time needed to complete them. Not all the missions are short.
I played Total Annihilation (and its expansion packs) for approximately 3 years. One of my favorite games of all time. A classic that any fan of RTS games will enjoy.
There is STILL an active community online, and many, many user-made mods and extra units.
Amazing. Can be described as 'Awesomeful'.

Total Annihilation is an awesome game.
Like I said in the title, it can be described as 'Awesomeful', breaking grammar in a couple ways.
The story line and gameplay are all amazing.
Even the skirmishes are addicting. Though I haven't played it in awhile, I might just go ahead and play it again.

I've owned a copy of the original T.A. almost since it's release in late 97. At first glance it's nothing special but then again that's what I said when I first got a copy for Christmas in 98. I've been playing solidy ever since and loving every minute of it. Sadly Cavedog Interactive (the company that made T.A.) went under at the turn of the milennium. Thus finding a copy of the game is increasingly difficult. If anyone can get their hands on a copy then I say go for the gusto and look for all the extras that Cavedog and the Boneyards left scattered around online. There's a downloadable map, mission, and unit editor. I've seen countless map packs and unit packs online. There's no end to the fun with this game! The campaign mode and storyline is solid. I can't stop with the praise for this game. Grab a copy and start playing.

This is simply the best game that I have ever played. Two sides, and more units total than all of starcraft combined. Very, very easy to mod. The sheer bulk of... stuff that can be downloaded for it... There are more total conversions than I can count one one hand(A total conversion removes all old units and replaces them.) The bulk of individual units that can be downloaded for it is ridiculous. The biggest problem with the modding is that there is a limit of 512 different units that can be added to each side. Maps can be pulled as well. They are huge. Up and past 40X40 screens. Don't buy it here, hit ebay. 99$ for an eight year old game?
GREATEST RTS EVER!!!

-This game is too good to be true. The strategy, the graphics, the sheer amount of units and the game's downloadable modifications/units. (Go to www.fileuniverse.com for some great modding & map tools, www.unituniverse.com for units, and www.tauniverse.com for advice on "how to" stuff & advice and links to other Total Annihilation websites).
--I got mine from www.bigdaddysoftware.com for $35 BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At www.bigdaddysoftware.com you get the game and expansion packs, just no manual or $2 strategy guide (that got bad reviews anyway), for $35 AND FREE SHIPPING because its a bundle!!!!!!!
---DON'T pay this much for a mint condition, it's ridicuosly expensive here. There are alot of other online shops you can get it cheaper from, like www.bigdaddysoftware.com/.

I bought this game in 1999, before my pc was actually delivered to my door, I have been playing it ever since! The single player is great, but buy this game for the multiplayer!
The greatest thing about Total Annihilation is the ability to download new maps and units. There are literally thousands out there. There are also many, many packs called Total Conversions, which rplace every unit in the game with new onces like all Star Wars units, World War II, or Modern tanks and aircraft. These packs change everything about the game accept the gameplay. So you never really get bored with the game. The music is great and always seems to kick in and give you a rush of sound before a battle.
I do sell these here on Amazon, because I think it is such a great game to play. It is rare, but so worth the money. I only sell games I love, and this one is the number one on my list.
Excellent game, but not worth the money

Total Annihilation is one of the best games ever, and the Commander Pack is a supposed to be a bargain deal for those who do not yet own the game. This game worth no more than ten dollars. So don't pay the ridiculous amounts that the third party dealers are offering for used and new copies of this game. If a game is a rare classic, that does not automatically make it a collector's item. You don't see people demanding hundreds of dollars for unopened copies of Super Mario Brothers 3. Do you?
So don't get tempted into wasting tons of money on this game (and other out-of-print computer game classics) when you clearly have other options. Look for an online auction if you know what I mean. You will find much cheaper prices there.
