Fire Pro is back, this is a great title

Huge roster of available wrestlers, countless moves, and insanely configurable gameplay make this a must-have for any Fire Pro fan. Drawbacks include somewhat clumsy menu option partitioning, and no Victory Road option like most other Fire Pro titles in the past, where you basically take on the whole roster to become the top champion- what with the wrestler selection being so vast, I can understand why they didn't include this, but it's a personal fave so it's somewhat of a disappointment it wasn't included.
Graphics are 2D but very good; the moves look crisp, well-animated and true-to-life. Fire Pro Returns is more a wrestling *sim* than a wrestling game, and brings back that old-school element of when the wrestling industry was centered on exciting, fast-paced action instead of hype or 'fluff'- the game reflects that era closely. Cage and different death matches are included, as is a crazy 8-man battle royal which is just fantastic. The gameplay and playability are great. If you're already familiar with the Fire Pro series this is a very worthy addition to your PS2 library; if not, be sure to give it a rent to get a taste of the timing-based grappling system and 2D ring perspective- especially if you're a wrestling 'purist', it's entirely possible the game will win you over.

What this game lacks in graphics it makes up for it in move sets, wrestlers, Barbed wire, explosions. with 500 create a wrestler slots. Plus all the in game wrestlers are based on real people and you can rename them to who they are supposed to be. There sites out there who tell you who all the people in game are, and there tons I believe over 300. This game is great, it even has moves that other wrestling games don't even have yet like the Canadian destroyer. Its a great game if you like hardcore matches or if you just like wrestling. The control take a bit to get used to and there is a learners curve but once you get the hang of the game you'll have fun.
one of the greatest wrestling games ever made

if all you know is smackdown then you are missing out. this is not a game you just pick up and play, you need to put some time to learn everything. so if you are one of those people that just throws a game into the ps2 and expects to be beating it at expert in the next 10minutes this game isnt for you. it takes alot of practice to master the grappling system and that is what turns most people off. the great part is that with time this game grows on you and its replay value is amazing. there are 328 different characters in this game and you can create 500 more...no i am not kidding. you can create a ring, a logo that you can put right in the middle of your ring, a belt, and a ref that can count as fast or slow as you want him run for the count as fast or slow as you want him etc etc. there are over 1500 moves to choose from. no gimmick matches like ladder and hell in a cell but you get death matches with barbwire ropes, lighttubes and explosions...the game is 2D and some people see that as a bad thing. i dont because it reminds me of the years when i was a kid. its not bad 2D either but if you cant look past that fact you should keep playing your crapdown. if you are a serious gamer and you love wrestling/wrestling games (and especially if you played and liked wwf no mercy) buy this game and give it a chance...what do you have to lose? its not like its $[...] fire pro forever!!!
Sorry- Just MY opinion of the game

based on the reviews, i didn't expect too much on the graphics, but i have to say i was a little disappointed with the controls too. i've only spent about 20 minutes on it so far and it has NOT impressed me too much. obviously i need to give it more time, but if you like (and you're used to) the smackdown vs. raw's and wcw of the PS series, then i'm pretty sure you're NOT gonna like this one too much.
again, perhaps i've not spent enough time on it to unlock it's full potential, but i'd suggest this to be a rental before it's a purchase. overall, i'm giving this two stars for now, but i'm hoping to change my review in the next few weeks :(
GODSEND!!!

This game is great its everything iv been looking for. If your a diehard wrestling fan its a must have. Up to 800 wrestlers creat your own promotions what more can you ask. The only down fall which the next one should fix is it should at least be 3d like n64's No mercy(at the very least), Im not complaning but there should be more options with creating belts and creating matches, but in all this is a must have esp for the price its going for. i gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
why,,,,,no progress

I've been playing FP games since HAL wrestling, I don't understand why they haven't made a federation mode track computer and player win-losses and deriving a top contenders list to compete for world, secondary and tag titles. The gameplay and customization is always excellent. The matchmaker would be better if you competed against other feds and could do more then 12 cards. Otherwords your just simming a match at a time for your own personal enjoyment. I don't get this, 20 yrs, and still no fed geez.... It doesn't need a lame story line mode, just something to let it be a wrestling simulation not a one match at a time simulation. And a league mode that just tracks points.... man your halfway there.
New to this...

whole review thing. well first off fire pro returns is the best wrestling game i've ever played. I could tell you all the great match types and what not but it's not that important. if you love wrestling and can sit down and learn the controls, you want this game. if you can go without eye candy. you want this game. if you want to see if cena can beat kobashi, you want this game. lol
This is a complex and rewarding wrestling game.

First off, this game is not a button masher. It is very intricate and hard to master. I would not recommend this for anyone under 12, the move system and create mode is simply too hard.
The good news is that you can create everything : wrestlers,move-lists, federations, the ring, and even the belt. The create mode is actually very cumbersome, but it is complete, and gives the user TOTAL CONTROL. Alot of old-school wrestlers from the 80s(WWF glory years) are already on the game, you just simply need to change the name.
This game is aimed at players who like to create, and has endless replay value.
