I want to discuss the pros of this game first.
PROS:
- Enjoy the single player storyline.
- I don't know why, but the peppered voice acting sometimes cheer me up from the monotonous scrolling of texts.
- The wonderfully designed levels. They are not hard to go through and its plain simple. I enjoyed roaming around it.
- I like how whenever you get a new character then you visit old levels you get a different feel in playing them again. I like it when Gnash joined my team and going through the levels became easy, especially the double jump.
- The "extra pouch" is a good innovation. It gives a slight difficult curve in game play.
Now, just because my review highlighted the easiness and simpleness of the game doesn't necessarily imply that this game is cheesy or "easy" at all. There are levels that will make you go through all tactical especially at later levels. The items such as health and revive become so important at later levels.
CONS:
- I don't like the AI of my companions. I mean, I spent nearly playing the game by myself with little to no help from my AI companions. I am getting pummeled by a boss and all the AI's are just standing there. I miss Final Fantasy XII set up commands that the AI's actually follow.
- The "extra pouch," I hate it because I went to a boss fight with maxed out items but I still lost because I wish I had more of "revive/phoenix" or "health gems/cylinder."
Not a CON against game play, but come on why change the storyline? Okay, getting realistic - I understand for the children. Other than that nothing else. I fully enjoy the game. And I am still trying to finish the game.
A fun hack & slash RPG Dungeon Crawler! (Said a mouthful, didn't I?)

I just got Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates last week, and so far I love it! The story is cool, the music is good, the fighting is fun, and the graphics are great!
One of the things I like most about this game is it's attention to detail, the character models, backgrounds, event scenes, and cutscenes all look great! It's especially cool how the weapons, armor, and other equipment change the look of the characters, something you rarely see in RPG's for the DS. Equiping your character with a new weapon or armor changes the character's appearance on the field, meaning that if you equip Yuri with a Red Hat, he'll be wearing it on the field, and the same goes for armor and weapons! You can even dress up your characters to look like classes from other Final Fantasy games! Equip your character with a Black Mage Hood & Black Mage Robe, and your character's physical appearance on the field will be that of a Black Mage!
However, this effect only lasts on the field, once you enter an event scene, your characters will all be wearing their default clothing. Kinda lame, but whatever...
The use of the Touch Screen in this game is also really good. Smooth, simple Touch Screen interface can either make or break a DS game, and in this case, I'm happy to say that in the case of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, it's a smooth and seamless interface.
However, this game is not without it's cons...
The party's AI is really bad! If you're not playing on multiplayer, then don't expect any help from your comrades. In single player mode, you're on your own... The other members of the party tend to get in the way alot during battle, and offer absolutely no assistance! They won't cast healing spells on you when you run low on heatlh, the won't cover you while you cast spells of your own, and they seldom even attack the enemy! Pretty much all your AI party members do during battle is run directly infront of the enemy, and stand there while being attacked, occasionally hitting the enemy once or twice before dying.
Another problem is the magic system... While it's pretty easy to use and operate by yourself, attack based magic doesn't deal nearly enough damage for the time it takes to cast, and without any competent party members to cover you while you're casting it, you can expect to take quite a bit of damage while you cast.
Another small thing is the voice acting... While I am happy that it's there, I wish that it were of higher quality... It's definitely not the best voice acting I've heard in a DS game.
All complaints aside, I'm not unhappy with my purchase of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates. Although 40 dollars is a bit high for a DS game, you can see where it went with the length of the game & quality of the graphics, they definitely didn't put this one on the standard 256MB DS card.
Regardless of what Game Informer's review said about this game, Single Player mode is still fun. A little bit frustrating, but as long as you've got someone else to play with you're set to have alot of fun!
Overall Rating: (Depends on how you play)
Single Player Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars.
Multiplayer Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars.
For maximum enjoyment of the game, link it up and play it with friends or play it over the Wi-Fi connection!

As far as a Final Fantasy game goes, I am not sure how much this qualifies. The reason i say this is that, using an online guide maybe once, i finished the game in just under 12 hours. The game was very short. The characters we pretty good, but it would have been nicer if your other members did more while you controlled one. I also agree that the point of view was a little hard to use. Dont get me wrong, it was a good game, the biggest thing was it was too short, and in a way, almost too easy for a Final Fantasy game.
just great

I don't like turn-based games. They are really slow and boring.
This is why I love FFCC ring of fates. It is a terrific fun rpg, It is kind of short (you don't have to spend your life playing this game), not difficult (you don't have to keep fighting 2 hours with the same enemies in order to reach level 100 for defeting a monster) and ... they story is a fantastic story.
If you don't like slow RPGs but you like epic stories, this is your game.

This game is definitely different from what I've played so far regarding Final Fantasy games. I like the fact that the game is a step up from FFIII. The graphics is amazing; however, the game play is not practical. I find it annoying and difficult using the buttons to fight and using the stylus to collect magic crystals at the same time. Since Ring of Fates and FFIII&XII have totally different game play style I cannot compare them together; however, my favorite of all is XII because I play it the most. According to gamespot.com, the upcoming FF games for the DS are FF Tactics A2 and a remake of FFIV. Hopefully it will be good because I'm definitely getting FFIV!

I got this game for my Birthday which was just a couple days ago. Umm ... honestly haven't been a BIG fan of Final Fantasy aside from the Final Fantasy : Advent Children movie. This game is kinda a more different version of Zelda. But it has it fun moments but after awhile you get bored of it. Sad that the enemy guy had to kill the kids Father.
A great game!!!

I really enjoyed this game. Game play is alittle different. You can gather different recipes to make certain objects like weapons, armor, and goods as such as iron, silk etc. I like the fact that its live fighting instead of turn based. You can switch between characters and has mild stylus play. The only thing that I wish that they done was give more spells or have a way to learn new spells. Other than that its a great game for teens to adults!
Better than its predecessor FFCC

After owning this game for a little over 3 weeks and having beaten it twice, I can say that it's a game worth getting for people who enjoy the Final Fantasy series and FFCC on the gamecube. The annoying part of the game in the original FFCC is gone in this game, you don't have to carry a chalice to protect yourself from the miasma anymore however there is a secret level in the game that you unlock (when you beat the game once) that is reminiscent of FFCC.
The graphics in this game are stunning. The controls are easy to get used to once you're playing through the game for 30 minutes - 1 hour. Each character has his/her own tribe ability which lends itself to solving small puzzles with each ability in the levels.
The story mode itself is very short - you could beat the game in 10 hours , less if you don't bother leveling up much. The story in the game itself is really involving and some parts were surprisingly sad (since I thought this was like a kiddie version of FF like FFCC). Most of the bosses have the same methodology of beating them - but when you go through the game for a third time they present much more of a challenge. I've only played through the story mode, but I've heard that multiplayer mode is done well and is a lot of fun. The only downside to the game is the repetitive hack and slash, but that's not too bad. I recommend getting it.

The game started out okay and then as more characters were introduced, things got hard to manage. I had difficulty keeping track of where characters were on the screen and what abilities they were using (if you are not careful, characters could have algorithms that use all of your items). I also never figured out how to to pile rings to do multiple damage -- perhaps that is something that can only be done in multiplayer mode ???. Anyhow, I got bored with the game about 2/3 of the way through because the platforming and the lever hunting wore on my nerves too much. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a story for me to bear with it until the end. Personally, I'm a fan of turn-based game play. This game, though, is real-time, so it just may have not been the right game for me :(. I think if you like platforming and hack-n-slash mixed with chibi-cuteness, then you will enjoy this game more than I did. It is really, really, cute :).
