While this game has arcade features and eye candy like most other Namco games, fans of driving simulators will find it appealing thanks to a very good physics engine and a solid collection of real-world cars. This game has excellent replays, challenging courses (including 3 real-world courses), and graphics almost as good at Gran Turismo 3. There are hundreds of racing games out there for the PS2, but I was looking for something to supplement Gran Turismo, that also featured real cars, and challenging action without being frustrating. After many hours with Racing Evolution, I can now say that this is that racing game. "Total Immersion Racing" and "Tokyo Extreme Racer 3" are two other titles that were very appealing, but they didn't have a feel that approached Gran Turismo 3. This one does. So if you are keeping your PS2 or if you have a need for more games in the GT tradition, this is a solid choice.

kickin ...

I bought this game as something to tide me over until GT4 comes out next year. I like this game, but my problem is that I can't see how it's possible for a car that has less horse power than me can beat me in a race. I do intend to send a letter to Namco to address this issue with them. Other than that, it's a great game, and the graphics are top of the line. I like the fact that I can race the Audi R8 and the Bently EXP8, something that other race games (so far) can't claim. I tip my hat to Namco for pulling off the license agreement to get those cars in the game. I also think that there could've been more tracks added to race on, and the "radio communication" gets old after a while. That needed to be varied a little more. Otherwise I do suggest that you buy this game and decide for yourself. Otherwise, wait for GT4. WE ALL KNOW HOW GREAT THAT GAME WILL BE!

Have you ever wanted to feel like you have lightning-quick reflexes even though you know dang well that turtles could effortlessly give you the slip then by all means get this. The Ridge Racer series should in no way be associated with this low-speed crash nor should Gran Tourismo(not by any stretch my favorite but perfect for simulation fans)or Sega GT. No, this is in a class of it's own-low class. Namco can and has done better than this. It is a pretty game, nonetheless, just like Dead or Alive 3 but with most of the curves on the tracks and all of the shaking (or dare I say jiggling? Yes, of course I do!)being confined to car chasis and headlights...well, you should get where I'm going with this. If you don't then this game is just your speed if not too blazing fast for you.
I'd actually give this game a 10+ \ ( ^0^ )/

Surprisingly I purchased this game at a RiteAid from their DVD rack. It was $20 bucks and since I just recently got my PS2 for Christmas I didn't have much games to play with it besides my EyeToy collection but my house is too dark to play it properly ! (I_I) I've always been a Racing game lover from the days of Gran Turismo 1 for the Good Old PlayStation. So I knew buying this game probably wont be a disappointment. I got it home and once I played a couple rounds I was pretty happy about it. The graphics are very nice and the game play is relatively competitive just the way I like it. You gotta be playing alot of Video Games to know how to appreciate a Good one and this is one of the Good ones. Go get it and hit the tracks ! You wont regret it !!
Its ok

The Ridge Racer series has always been about arcade-style driving. Sail off into the corners at full speed, swing the rear end around, jam the gas, and head down the straight. With Racing Evolution, Namco opts to inject a bit of realism into the game, transforming it into a dull jack-of-all-trades hybrid.
The developers try to spice things up a bit with a Story mode that forces you to play through various types of racing in order to unlock new vehicles. But the action on the track is mediocre, especially once you realize you'll have to wrestle with the touchy control on the same tracks in the same cars over and over. One facet of the Ridge Racer legacy goes mercifully untouched-presentation. R impresses with shiny rides, lifelike courses, and gorgeous cinemas. But these skin-deep looks can't mask the fact that R doesn't stand out in any category. You want a better pure racing sim? Play Gran Turismo 3 or Sega GT. Arcade racer? Project Gotham 2 and Burnout 2 destroy this. Unless you're a bona fide Ridge Racer fanatic, there's no reason to play R.

Well, there's really not much on the bad side of this game. I really don't like how you have to buy the tracks to race them. Other than that, the graphics are unbelievable, the car performance is great, the control is not too shabby, and the pressure meter is awesome. I myself think every racing game should include something like that from now on. The talking (crew chief and other drivers) during the game is sometimes annoying and sometimes good advice. Need for Speed: Underground is not as great as this game so I'd purchase this instead.
PS- The only thing thats missing from this game is online play which would have made this game one of mt favorites. ENJOY PLAYING!
not your gran turismo, but takes a diff. perspective on fun

i have to say i'm very pleased with the purchase of this game. although there are many reviewers out there that have given this game pretty mediocre scores, it all depends on what you really want out of the game.
if youre looking for a wide variety of cars to tune up, total realism, and racing countless race after another to earn money, then this might not be your game; however, if you are looking for a game with a great storymode, engaging gameplay, and wonderful electronic soundtrack, then this is it. similar to pilot chatter in acecombat 4, this game carries the same elements that made acecombat so intriguing. the graphics are nice as well.
if you were a fan of ridge racer, this might not exactly be your game.. but the fun is still definitley there. i have to emphasize again though, it all depends on what sort of fun youre looking for in the game.
