That's only if you play games once every two months. If you are a hard-core or even casual gamer you can easily win in 4 hours. Yes, this game is very short. But shortness is only one of the many factors contributing to a once good idea gone amuck.
Story: This game's story follows along the storline of the first Pirates of the Caribbean. You battle on many scenes included in the movie, such as Singapore, the Black Pearl and Port Royal. However, this game is mostly made up of its own levels that are used as fillers. For example, in the game Jack Sparrow and Will Turner end up in the Orient. This did not happen in the movie. If you would like to play on different levels that you have never seen before, then you might like this type of game. However, this style of gaming is annoying in my opinion.
Gameplay: This game's style of gameplay is one of its weakest points. All you do in this game is kill people and pull levers. And after you have won, you just go around playing on levels you've already played. The only controls you have are slicing and throwing axes or bombs. You can't even jump as any of the three characters. The only positive thing I will say about this game's gamplay is that you can upgrade and you can find more powerful swords throughout the game.
Details: The positive details are that we have Johnny Depp's voice and that there is very good instrumental music. However, this game has very poor graphics. It came out in 2006, not 1996. I guess this is a Bethesda trademark.
Negative: I think almost everything about this game is negative.
I do not like to label people, but I believe that Bethesda makes the poorest of the games. I had bought IHRA Drag Racing 2 for $5, which was made by Bethesda. I sold it without playing it because it required two players. I'm sorry, but anyone who buys this game should think twice before they take it's plastic wrapper off. Sorry to the over reviewers, but I'm into games that are GOOD.
For those pirate lovers, a new game is coming out. I told a good friend of mine that "If the makers of the Pirates of the Carribbean game pull themselves together and create a whole new game from scratch that is based on their third installment, we might have a game war as well as a movie war this summer." Well, I was right. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World' End The Game is coming out this Tuesday, May 22. Let's just hope they have Bethesda off the project.

I was expecting alot from this game, but was disappointed. Some parts are cool, but for the most part this game does in no way compare to the film.
Swashbuckling fun!

There are a few sections in this game with annoying glitches. Some controls are a bit tricky to get a hang of and don't always work the first time around. You have to be positioned just so to make some of them work. I'm talking about environmental controls, such as opening chests, turning cranks, etc. The fighting controls couldn't be clearer, and add a lot to the game. It makes it seem like not just a hack-your-way-through-it kind of thing, because you get some good moves to work with (including one where you knee your enemies in a very sensitive spot, which is one we just never play in front of our young son because we don't want to give him ideas!). When Jack gets his bombs and Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann get their hatchets, it's even more fun. Every now and then, and I haven't figured this out, but there's a fish barrel to reload hatchets so that Will and Elizabeth are throwing fish instead of hatchets, but it does the same damage. I'm sure this was just the video game programmers having some fun.
The game is really a lot of fun! If you loved Pirates of the Caribbean and you like video games for their stories and for the fun of playing them instead of for a lot of blood, guts, and sex, you'll really enjoy this game. (In case that wasn't clear, there is no blood, guts, or sex in this game.)
I played for a while before I allowed my son to see the game. After I approved, he and my husband played for quite a long time and had a lot of fun with it. Now I have to sneak to get my play time!
The basic idea of the game is Jack Sparrow telling the events of Pirates of the Caribbean from his own point of view (with some embellishments, of course). In some instances, the other characters even comment on it. "I wasn't here!" And my favorite one, when Will Turner started speaking a bunch of lines that were obviously Jack Sparrow kind of talk, and he stopped and said, "What is this you have me saying?"
So this game covers not just the movie, but extra things as well. You get to go to China (by the way: do NOT play the dragon chase scene in co-op mode... we only beat it when we did it single player), fight a pirate called Black Smoke James, and many other fun little extras.
I wish this game had a three player co-op mode! We love video games that make us laugh, and this one definitely does do that.

My nephew is 8 and he loves this game just as his 24 yr old uncle too. A game that is fun for all, that is always a winner. A big hit in this house for sure. Kudos too Capt Jack as always.

Normally I don't care about gameplay. The stories are the only reason I work so hard to beat any video game. That is why my favorite game series is Metal Gear. This is one of only two game's, out of hundreds, that I almost gave up on not because of difficulty or story but because the graphics and gameplay let me down.
The story is basically the first pirates movie but if Jack Sparrow were director and co-writer of it. I say co-writer because if he were sole writer Will Turner would only show up once to tell the audience that he is an idiot. For this reason the story is hilarious and captivating. There are several stories and new sub-stories, you'll understand when you play it, that are both interesting and not necessarily true. I would certainly say that this one of the best scripts that has been made for a game.
Unfortunately the actors and writers enthusiam for this didn't transfer to the other creative aspects. Firstly this is a platstation 2 game and I've seen playstation games with much better graphics. Secondly the gameplay itself is repetative. Swing the sword, swing the sword again, oh no there is another thug behind you swing your sword a third time. There are only two weapon powerups in the game and they don't do much or even look that cool. Lastly, and perhaps the most annoying, all the additional moves in the game, the different ways to swing the sword, have to be manualy input and if you forget to do it your screwed.
I still think that this is an incredibly good game. I recomend this to anyone that likes the pirates series, however if you play games for the actual gameplay then approach this one with caution.
