New to the series? No Problem!

This was my first time playing any of the Onimusha games but let me tell you it loses no points for that. The game itself does a great job in telling the back story of the past games, and it doesn't even matter because the story is so strong on its own! Although it was short, it has awesome replay value and unlockables. The one thing that I didn't like is how I couldn't go back after a certain point in the game to go pick up stuff that I had missed the first time through, but no use crying over spilt milk. Definately a must buy!

Onimusha 2.5: Ninja Tales?

I guess I'm disappointed, since getting through Ninja Gaiden for Xbox, that not another beat'em up will give me gaming satisfaction. But then I saw Oninmusha 3 and decided to give it a go.

Okay, I went out and bought this game because I heard it was better than the other onimushas, and that the intro movie is awesome. Well, I'll say that the intro CG done by ROBOT is too dam cool for words. It features the hero Samanouske as a ninja doing some pretty spiffy moves. Wait, wasn't he supposed to be a samurai??

That said, the rest of the game is the complete opposite of the intro. The gameplay is typical Onimusha- you can do almost none of the things that Samanouske displayed in the CG. No running on walls, no jump-kicking, no deflecting enemy attacks, no jumping whatsoever and performing nothing else a ninja can do. It's not bad, just relaxing or subdued compared to Ninja Gaiden.

But Onimusha has always had a thing for good story telling right? Unfortunately O3 fails in this too. Characters are either too serious like the statuesque Samanouske, or too corny like the time-hopping fairy. Some just aren't cool, like the overly hyped Jean Reno as Jauques Blanc (we wanted Jubei Yagiu!).

The game itself proves that it isn't good. The super-cool opening CG (which should go into gaming history) along with a game that makes you wish you were playing the cool ninjastic CG, prove that ninjas are indeed cooler than samurai. If you dig Onimusha you'll be wanting a better end for the trilogy, for those poor souls looking for a Ninja Gaiden, keep looking or play that game again. Onimusha 3 is a kick-ass 6 min CG with a10-hour mediocre game included.

Cheap money for a really good PS2 game

I think this game was a good game, especially for the price that is now.The person who gave this game a 2 doesn't know the difference between a good game and a crappy game. This game was good even through it had a little problems, like most games do. I didn't like that I couldn't move the camera position but above that it was really good. They had nice combos and moves you can do and the controls were easy to get use to. I even played it twice because I like it so much. If you a gamer who likes to save money and you want a good game that you'll like, then I
recommend this game for you.

Best in the series. (don't worry, it's not the last one)

Onimusha 3:Demon Siege is the best in the series. Two different stories, two different characters, all going on at the same time in the past and present day. Character Samanouske Akechi(from first Onimusha(:Warlords) raids a temple with his uncle and soldiers to confront the evil Genma(demon clan)lord Nobunaga. Samanouske unwillingly gets transported to the Genma raided present day France during the confrontation. On the other hand, new character Jaques Blanc, a French commando, gets transported to Japan in the past 500 years where he meets a fiary Ako.Ako helps Jaques in past and helps Samanouske in present day France.Another character is Michelle,a French female commando who is Jaques fiancee and she gets to be played with automatic guns in some situations.Five frequent nonplayable characters are Jaques 10 year old son Henri,16 year old villian Ranmuru, villian archer Heitchi Honda, annoying demon scientist Guildenstern and the well known evil Nobunaga.Alot of people are saying this is the last one in the series. They will be another Onimusha but will have different characters and may or may not having some of the previous characters.Onimusha 3:Demon Siege is the best in the series by having improved graphics, improved controls, getting back the suspense from the original and longer than first two Onimushas.Onimusha 2:Samurai's Destiny was good to the series but it lost suspense, not having improved controls, same graphics from first but lighter, weapons were weaker and boss fights were more difficult.Onimusha:Warlords is the best but lost to 3 for being too short, graphics not as good and difficult controls.

Onimusha 3:Demon Siege
Pros:
-Samanouske Akechi from original Onimusha returns
-Hate the demon scientist Guildenstern from original Onimusha?Well he returns in this one and he is more annoying but he won't be anymore.
-Improved controls.Original controls were Resident Evil style with the digital pad.New controls are Devil May Cry style with the analog and the original controls are still available.
-Gets the suspense again. The suspense is what makes it good.
-Improved all 3-D graphics.First two had 3-D and 2-D.
-Original swords and new swords/whips/axes.
-Longer than first two.
-Don't have to equip to bow from menu.Samanouske automatically holds it and all you have to do is hold R1 and push X to shoot a arrow.
-More arrows.
-Automatic guns.

Cons:
-No more Japanese acting option in the option menu.
-Backtracking is present and gets annoying.
-Boss battles get difficult.
-Having Nobunaga as enemy is getting old.
-No ancient guns and don't really get to use them that much.

Onimusha 2:Samurai's Destiny
Pros:
-Nobunaga being the Arch Nemesis is cool.
-The annoying Tokichiro from original Onimusha has his last laugh in this.
-Go to some of the levels that were in the original Onimusha.
-More guns.
-More orb weapons.
-More help from friends.

Cons:
-Weapons aren't too powerful.
-Boss fights can really anger players.
-Same difficult controls.
-Not much suspense.
-Numerous boss fights on certain bosses.
-Graphics didn't improve much.
-Gets boring.

Onimusha:Warlords
Pros:
-Lots of Action.
-Lots of Weapons.
-Lots of Suspense

Cons:
-Too Short
-Annoying Puzzles

Onimusha 3:Demon Siege and Onimusha:Warlords are the best in the series but Onimusha 3 is just slightly better.Onimusha 3 is a must have for Onimusha fans and fans of demon slayers.

M rating and kiddies? It is not bad for kids but the cutscene in the beginning is very intense so keep the kids away from that. There is a option that limits violence and blood during gameplay(but not all cutscenes)High violence option increases blood and low violence decreases blood. There is also red, green or no blood option. Some sites say this game has descriptors blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, strong sexual content and use of drugs.Blood and gore, intense violence yeah, the other stuff no.I beat the game and they only say damn, there is no sex or stimulating behavior, only very partial nonstimulating nudity and absoluty no drugs. So I say 10+ and supervise younger.

Could be better...

Some people might be way too harsh with this game, but I understand what they are talking about. The gameplay itself is enjoyable if not a little too relaxing at times: AI for the most part is not difficult. Frustration ranges from a few "connect the dot" puzzles, to the nearly impossible final boss (save your medicine!). Other than that it's a breeze.

The story is entertaining, and sometimes laughable, not what you'd expect for the trilogy's grand finale. There are some questionable holes in the story, but it doesn't take away from the whole of the story. The abscence of Jubei Yagyu is where the story takes a big hit. Why not duel Samurai fights instead of casting the french guy? The only mention of Jubei is a small rumor note. Very discouraging.

The CG sequence in the beginning is jaw-dropping, but is also the best in the game. The other CG sequences are not as impressive. They use the character models from the game and set them in higher resoulution environments. The whole presentation feels a bit choppy.

The opening intro also doesn't match the gameplay. Seeing Samanouske sneak into a Demon Tank Bardge, slice up the undead, run on walls to escape, Duel with a Demon Knight and come whirling down like a tornado after the Tank explodes are all very breath-taking. But you can't do any of it in the game.

Onimusha 3 is very enjoyable, and I suggest it be rented. It offers entertaining combat and somewhat interesting story, but it marrs what could have been the best trilogy in video games.

Better than Pennywise's Review

Wow. Pennywise was harsh. This game is amazing. I mean COME ON!!!!!!!! It has Jen Reno! One of the best moder french actors doing a voice. COME ON!!! But I guess Penny wise has no taste. This game rocks. Amazing. Higher rating then Ninja Gaidan. That gave me a headache.

A game showered with gimmicks and a hidden good game inside

First off im going to be fair rating this game being that i havent played the first 2 onimusha games.I will not compare onimusha 3 with its predecessors, but i will be rating onimusha 3 on its own right. All the reviews are right so far the CG opening is awesome! Very well done and detailed I was amazed by the fluidity of the intro from the fighting sequences, all the way to the end of the grand explosion, but alas that was all that amazed me. Now on to the game.

Graphics: 8/10
Although the amount of detail that went into this game was great i do admit at times the graphics seemed a bit choppy, and not as perfected as it should be. I have seen capcom produce games with more insane graphics then what was shown to me here i feel that most of the budget went into the CG opening sequence and less of it was concentrated on the actual game itself. Only thing that keeps graphics floating is how your equipment changes size and color everytime you upgraded it at least thats some realism there.

Sound/Music 8.5/10
Ah yes the music I like how the music matched every level wether you where jaques or samanosuke fine example of this would be water temple stage. Also the music wasnt as repetitive and gave a upbeat feel even when in battle. As far as sound goes i cant complain there really. The FX are superb from the gun blasts to the sword slashing. One thing that irritated me THE VOICE ACTING gah hate the voice acting HORRIBLE. Why is it that jaques speaks french in the beginning and yet samanosuke speaks english isnt he japanese?? I would have preferred if they made samanosuke speak japanese in the begnning as well, and later speak english like jaques when the tengu Ako appears. Oh well cant have it all.

Gameplay: 8/10
The meat of any game the gameplay although i must say it somewhat lacks in this department, or maybe its just me. I found this game somewhat easy... Especially one that tries to be a hack and slash/puzzle game. Ill put it this way if you played a lot of games with this similiar background you will find this game easy to figure out. All the monsters have a pattern that can be followed easily, and at this point if you figure it out you could go throughout a whole stage or battle without getting hit. Lots of ways to cheat as well in this game with Ako get the white vest and.... you will see ^^ In game puzzles as well dont require much thinking just a lot of common sense. Also this game has a lot of replay value if you thought the first time through it was too easy, not to mention a lot of secrets to unlock as well.

Control: 8.5/10
Would of been a 9 but this game got no jump! lol how can you show an intro where samanosuke jumps about and yet in this game you are planted like a potted plant! Well with that out of the way on with all the other controls. I would say it felt a bit ruff at times some buttons utterly useless to use. example 180 degree turn button. When in the game do you actually have time to do a 180? When you have auto target instead? that just doesnt make sense. the use of timing in the game for counter attacks is genius! great especially when you are in a jam, and especially if you know how to counter your enemies! what i liked most was jaques ability to grab enemies and throw them Or shoot them where they stand when you got them in your grasp. Just so dissapointed no jump ><

Story 9/10
Your basic save the world or the evil will consume it all routine. Not to new here then again the way it was told and represented i wouild say not half bad at all. 2 heros one from the future named jaques one from the past named samanosuke switch places in time and try to save the world from a sinister evil named nobunaga. Throw in some sub characters in there and a twisted plot, and there you have it onimusha 3 in a nut shell. Really though the story got me glued to the t.v it was that good and actually made sense! (gawd i hate the horrible voice actors)

Final score: 8.4/10
This game has pretty much everything that is needed to survive in the gaming world today. A great story with good gameplay and some decent graphics not to mention the BEST CGI intro ever lol. To all the onimusha fans this game would be worth getting, and for all you first timers stepping into the world of onimusha like me dont be discouraged to try something different out of the ordinary, if anything you can always rent it ^^

HELLS YEAH!

I personally have not played the first Onimusha, but i rented the second one last year, and fell in love with it. The only flaw was that its only about 12 hours long, and once you've beaten it, then there is much to do except that "man in black" thing, which isn't that fun. Onimusha 3 is a definite improvement. In graphics, there is a slight change, like how the sun can catch an enemy and create a cool shadow, or how when you chop someone in half, he actually tears, and doesn't just break into two even halves. The gameplay is amazing, I love that analog stick movement is practical in this one. i also think that Ako, the little tengu is cool. She lets you switch between the two main characters, but not Michelle...
And, if i didn't think Samurais were just cooler than anything else, then Jaques could be the coolest with that whip and cool coat. All in all, this is a great game, with only a few flaws, like how movement is limited, and you cant jump around, but I think this keeps the gameplay easy enough to just pick u and play.

I'm a huge fan of action games. I love gun fighting and specially sword hack n' slash. The second one is this game's forte, but it does compliment with the gunfighting really well. It has all that and much more. This is one of the most amazing action games I've ever played. As a matter of fact, any one of the series' games would satisfy the true action gamer, although the third game is, without a doubt, the climax and the better game of the series. This is a definite must buy for the action gamer. Seriously. Don't hesitate to buy it. Incredible.

The return of Samanosuke

Onimusha 3: Demon Siege - Circa 2004

GOOD:
- A nicely styled samurai horror/fantasy, with some modern day France stuff
- An original story, with some time travel elements
- Cool swordsman type combat, newer refined combat (since last game)
- Some nice unlockable mini-games
- Play as two (sometimes three) different characters at certain points of the game
- Lot's more varity in environments

BAD:
- Some might say this game plays and looks dated, but that's really up to opinion
- Not for those who don't like survival horror games (but this ones is closer to an adventure game then survival horror)
- The story sort of goes out the window and is more unbelievable then the past two games, the entire magic meets samurai meets time travel meets modern day mercenary thing is not for every one

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- A Samurai game that plays like a action survival horror
- Magic and fantasy are a pretty big part of the story
- Don't really need to play pervious games to enjoy this one, pervious games have very little to do with this game
- Switch back and forth between the two main characters

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Onimusha: Warlords
- Onimusha 2: Samurai Destiny
- Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Yes the other playable character is modeled after the actor Jean Reno
