This game rocks, i dont know what game evilredcrow is playing but it couldnt be this , the graphics are gorgeous as are the ring girls ;) phwooaaahhh.
The game play for me is perfectly balanced (once you get to grips), this is no button basher its far more technical and requires a bit of thought, not much good if your a bit dim !!.
Each punch must be whieghted and thought through, theres a fine line here between using power and collapsing through exaustion, you have got to get the mix right for the different boxers you challenge ,but hey thats a learning process im still in the process of ;) ,
personaly i think the knockdowns are great, it should be difficult to get back up to your feet, after all if it was real life you wouldnt be doing a backflip after three seconds would you ? , anyway im waffling ....
in essence this game needs to be played by the professional gamer, its difficlut in places, but for me thats value for money, the graphics are superb as is the audio....and i get to smack tyson around myself :) which cant be a bad thing !!
Fantastic!!!

I bought this game on Friday, the day it came out, and I've hardly been off it since. (Except to watch the fight, of course!!! ;))
The graphics are wonderful, the gameplay is fun, and a unique look at fighting games/sports games.
It has the best elements from KK2002 and Ready to Rumble, where it is a realistic and atmospheric game, yet it is more focused at the fun than the realism. This makes it into an incredibly addictive party game. Suggestion: Buy it, then have you and your friends make a custom boxer each (wait till you see all the options!), then just play and play.
Die hard boxing sim fans and arcade fighter fans will both get a LOT from this game... They've just got to give it a bit of a chance to get use to this unique blend.
Awesome just fun and excellent graphics

A lot bestter grphics and game speed. This game will defently will become a classic. Buy it. It is the best game i have ever played
No question....better than all the rest!

Easily the best boxing game out there! The controls take a while to get used to and right at the start you're only provided with a few fighters. To play as the other big name fighters, you have to really work for it! At first, even the fighters that the game already gives you are hard to beat. As for customizing boxers, it's superior and unprecedented to all the other games...you'll see!!!
Cons, just like KK2002, there's no clinching!! so if you're in trouble you have no choice but to block or bob and weave. Also, you can't move quickly around the ring, which means you can't stick and move with your jab like in KK2002. The commentary could have been better. But basically, those are the only things that KK2002 has on this game!!!
If you're a boxing fan..this game is a MUST. Realistic fighting at its BEST! Remember, this game is tough to play at first. It took me hours and hours to get used to the games speed and controls, but i finally beat and unlocked everyone...Tua, Holmes, Witherspoon, Grant, Johnson, Rahman and Tyson! This game effectively combines the art and the brutality of the sport.
One strange thing, when i finally beat iron mike and unlocked him...i notice that when i played as him...i got pummelled by all the other big name fighters in the next game mode and even during exhibition mode!
I guess like in real life..iron mike in his new game is not the invincible foe he used to be.

The first time i played Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing i was like wow. the graphics are great, there are a variety of modes and they are all pretty fun, and the features are nice too. the controls are weird at first, but i got used to it in about half an hour. the actual fighting is realistic, but it has an arcade feel, which is a good thing. when i play as Iron Mike, i feel like pounding my opponent and i usually do so the fun factor is there. if you like fighting games, more specificly boxing games, you should buy this game. this game is a heavyweight champ just like the guy its named after.
Review the game not the man.

I have the game and think its a great game after a few days of battling my way through to the harder players with my custom boxer.
If you enjoy to have a game which will last you a lot longer than KK2 then why waste your money on anything else except a good game "Mike Tysons Heavyweight Boxing".
The best boxing game I've played yet.

I received my reserved copy yesterday and I have only now put the pad down. The custom boxer facility in particular, is great fun. In two player mode you can pit Tyson against all manner of your monstrous creations. Hairstyles, beards, bodyhair, skin colour can all be adjusted. Height, scale of torso, arms, legs, gloves are also infinitely adjustable.
I'm not a big fan of Mike Tyson but the quality of graphics, game play and shear depth of features sold this one to me. All in all it's simply a more complete game experience and feels more rewarding than any other boxing title I've played.
I'd recommend this title to anyone who likes fighting games.

I like many who bought this game am a boxing fan. With EA Sports pulling it's sucessfull simulation "Knockout Kings" off the ps2 platform, I was left to look elsewhere for "sweet science"(boxing) action. After months of looking and finding just old boxing games or cartoonish boxing games I thought I was out of luck. Then came "Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing". I had always liked Mike Tyson and remembered playing "Mike Tyson's punchout" for the Nintendo Entertainment System so I decided to buy.
When I got the game home I was very excited because the graphics looked very solid. However the Gameplay is another story. When I had my first fight I was appauled at how little strategy it took to fight. It was usually just stand in the middle of the ring and hit buttons to knock over your opponent. However, if you do get knocked over forhget about getting up because in some scenarios you have to hit three buttons at once. Three buttons in ten seconds! Get Realistic!
Secondly, with every fight you have you earn money to improve your boxer. While this is realistic it causes a problem because a person could just get knocked out many times and builld up to be a great fighter without winning one fight. Once again kind of a cheap thing to do.
The create a fighter mode gives many options except every face they offer looks like Tysons. Oh and when you get done creating yourself, you have the option to acctually spar(fight) with Tyson in training. If you can spar with Tyson in training why would you want to work to get to fight him in career mode. Kind of defeats the purpose.
The sound is one of the brighter aspects of this game. When fighting you will hear your corner or the audience giving you advice even though this advice is not very good or useful. This game has announcers but they only speak between rounds or after the fight when showing highlights. The referee will appear at the beeginning of the round and then dissapear. Once again NOT REALISTIC!
Overall, this game looks like it was rushed out onto the shelves to fast. The developers at Codemasters should've thought weather they wanted to make this title an Arcade game or a realistic simulation. There were no answers to that before buying this game and after buying this game I must say I'm still confused. All I can say is that the Codemasters just relied on the Mike Tyson name alone to sell this game and it might work once but it won't work again. The codemaster slogan, "genius at play" doesn't work for this game because their is nothing too genius about this game and if Mike Tyson expects to get out of bankruptcy by the sales of this game well he better hope he gets a rematch with Lewis because this game doesn't solve his problems it just causes more of them.

Be very careful when reading the glowing reviews posted on this game that are posted here. I have heard that the actual people behind lame games go on and post great reviews to fool people into thinking the game is a winner and spike sales. My suggestion is to check out the online unbiased sites such as IGN.Com and Gamespot.Com where reviews can be trusted. So far I have seen very bad reviews from the legit sites on this game with most saying the animation is very jerky and the controls rough..so the reviews posted here leave me very suspicious. I purchased the 1st game for the PS1 and it was horrible, so this one I will wait to see what legitimate reviewers say. The fact the same company came out with both games makes me nervous since the 1st was such garbage.
June 27 update
Here is an update. IGN.Com just gave the game the worst review. Here is the punchline:
"Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing
Codemasters unleashes one of the worst boxing games in recorded history."
