Could have been better

I have to admit that I loved this game through the first couple of days I played it. But as the game carried on it seemed to drag. The storyline was weak. Having to get back a magic crystal isn't all that original. The voices were laughable. The graphics aren't much to look at. I don't think they have to be as grand as a Squaresoft game. But they have to be up to par with PS2 capabilities.
The battle system is the only thing remotely interesting about this game. It's unique in design but in the end can't save it from it's flaws. I agree that this game was JUST TO PASS THE TIME till Suikoden 3 came out. And I find it to be far superior.
Bottom line is that this game should be rented first.

Eh...

The first thing I thought about after playing this game was that it had nothing to do with the first Legaia game; which didn't really matter to me but don't most sequals usually have to have something to do with the first of their series? Anyways:

Pros:
+MUCH better graphics (unlike the polygons in the first game)
+Better battle system (MUCH easier to understand)
+Cool Side-Quests
+The characters actually speaking English *but look at the "Con"

Cons:
-The storyline (it goes all over the place: what the heck is the main goal in this game anyway?)
-Like I said before, it would be nice if it had some things having to do with the first one but I'm not complaining.
*-Even though now you can understand what they're saying, it gets VERY old hearing someone say the name of the art that they're using every time they use it; and it also gets old hearing them say those stupid little phrases (over and over) when they kill an enemy or win a battle.

It wasn't the best game I've ever played but IF they decide to make a third game I'll definitely check it out. In conclusion, this is a game you might want to rent.

Legaia 2 - Duel Saga Review

If you are an RPG fan tired to death of standard RPG battle strategies (active-time, real-time, too much time, no time), try this game. You LOOK FORWARD to battling. The storyline is a little darker than the original Legend of Legaia, but the graphics are good, and the wit still present. They removed many of the things that were annoying about the first Legaia (took so long to walk across the map to the next level; paid you very little money for very expensive shops). The one unfortunate loss is the progressive changes in costume/armor appearances from Legend of Legaia - however, weapons do change appearance. The new game is MUCH more puzzle intensive than the original. What really makes the Legaia series so much fun is the unique battle system, and creating entirely new and better moves from different combinations.

Just a game to pass time.

I really enjoted the first one but the first one had a better arts system and was way more challenging than this one. I originally got this game just to pass the time until wild arms 3 came out but it has gone longer than I had expected and in this game is kind of bad. there is always some stupid detour that they throw in just to have you level up more to make the game too easy. This game has lasted ten more hours than it should have. Normally a long game is good but with every dungeon you are fearing the long drawn out battles that occur too frequently. But don't get me wrong it is a fun game just with many flaws. I would wait until there are no really good rpg's out to get this one...

40 Hour plus to beat the game.....A+

First of all, I'm a big freaking fan of the original game, Legend of Legaia. ... [Second], I have been waiting for this game to come out ever since I heard they were making a sequel. I love the battle system, very innovative and makes you feel more into the action than with standard menu selection and such. For those of you who don't know, the battle system is based on the directional buttons in different combinations to execute either regular attacks or special techniques called arts. These take AP(attack points)and can be learned by experimentation or by training with other characters or certain items. Each individual attack in a sequence takes up one space on the attack bar, which displays the current sequence, and the attack bar gets longer as you increase in level. Of course, it is turn based, which is a down-side for me. Still, I understand why they chose to make it this way. It would be hard to put in special moves quickly enough to not get frusterated with combat. The last info I'm going to share with you is about the arts. The regular attacks build up AP, as well as getting hit/defending, and spirit-up-ing. The Arts are divided into categories. One is hyper arts, you get these in the original by acquiring the correct books and using them. Another is miracle arts, these are the most powerful and consume most of the characters AP. Normal arts are more powerful than basic attacks, but consume some AP. Super arts are somewhere in between normal arts and miracle arts. Try combining normal, super and hyper arts for dazzling attacks.

Overall:
strategy- 5
puzzles-lacking: 3
Gameplay- 5
Sound- it's there: 3
Graphix- 4, I'm not picky
Tilt- 1,000,000!!

*since the scale only goes to 5, I give it 5/5*

Oh my God! I cant really say anything negative about the saga so far. The first one (Legend of Legia) had an amazing storyline and a revolutionary battle system, making it a hard act to follow. I, personally, have spent 140 hours on the first one, uncovering all the hidden items and leveling my characters up to the max. I have not yet bought Legia 2: Duel Saga, but I have played it and I can say this:
Sound = not bad, not original either however
Storyline = Very good, although the first was much better (both are very unique)
Gameplay = Fluid controls and everything, the whole package.

Legaia 1 was great,Legaia 2 is horrible!

They traded it's great gameplay for graphics;this is very evident with all the pointless un-skipable cinemas.Plus they made the characters shout their battlecries in english instead of japanese, and hearing a guy say "yeah!" for the 150th time gets old.

I hated the fact that they introduced a concept of "combining items to create better ones";I've never liked this in a game cause you either end up with something really cool(with help from a guide) or you end up with something worthless.Plus you only win combining-items after a battle, instead of a powerful weapon or defensive armor/accesory.Needless to say that's all you can steal from enemies as well which completely takes all the fun out of stealing.

They also did away with a free-roaming world map(in legaia 2 it has an arrow that takes you from point A to point B and back and forth....no exploring!)I felt that was unforgivable! The game also made the enemies alot harder for some reason. This is very noticable in the second area of the game when you go into the mountains.

As for the traditonal ra-seru type creatures that you could summon by defeating them in battle(in legaia 1)I have no idea if they return in this installment. As far as I played I did not find them, and that was too long for me esp when you learn them in the very begining of legaia 1.

I'll keep playing legaia 1,but I'll pass on legaia 2.

Great Game

This game is a really great game. The one and only downside to it that I noticed is the graphics. They look like Dreamcast graphics. Oh, and you also have to read. The music is great the gameplay is great and the story is good too. I love the battle system in this game. The story did take a little while to get going but that's a not a big deal.

This game is way better then the first, but definetly just as fun, it has the side quests, and a great new way of using the arts.
Not to mention the game is really challenging, so it does take awhile to get through. And if you don't mind leveling up a bit the game is great.
