The game is fun for the whole family. For some reason it makes my husband motion sick. I like that because then he does not hog the game and the rest of us can play :).
It is enjoyable to play but I did have it recommended by my sister that has the same tastes as I do. And another sister of mine loves it as well. So, naturally I bought it. I have not regretted it and the price was to reasonable to resist.
Thanks for making it available!

There are only a few things wrong with this game. The most important is that it is GLITCHY. You will often find yourself stuck in some odd positions - such as walking on air, non-working devices, etc.
There were too many times I had to throw Kya off of a cliff to get a particular device to operate correctly. The glitches are sometimes helpful, such as getting up to higher areas accidently through a shortcut, other times you will find yourself with gameplay upside down, frozen...
The other major problem in the game is the camera angles. They tend to wander, get stuck, etc.
Other than that, the artwork is gorgeous, the voice-acting enhances the story (especially the familiar voice of the village elder) with entertaining cut-scenes, and the story is solid. Fall into a mysterious world and save them to get back to your own. Along the way are skill mini-games that aren't fun for everyone, but not necessary to complete the game. Unlike most cute platform games, there is actual combat fighting here, and the characters are more interesting than "cute".
Don't expect a sequel; it was cancelled.
This is a must-have if you like platformers and I recommend it to fans of Spyro, Ty...
*Gorgeous artwork
*Interesting story -save the world
*Great voice acting, particularly impressive is the familiar voice of the village elder.

I didn't heard about Kya: Dark Lineage when it was released back in '03. On a whim I recently checked it out and after playing it I can say that this game is a fantastic platformer, with an interesting twist.
The game begins with you and your brother discovering your long vanished father's secret lab. Of course something goes wrong and you get transported to a parallel world. While there your brother quickly gets captured, but with a little assistance you escape. Also it turns out you're basically the native people's Keanu Reeves. Blah, blah, powers, blah, chosen one, blah, help us Kya, you're our only hope.
Your "power" is the ability to exorcize possessed Nativs. (Yes, the name of the natives is "Nativs") Anyway the villain of the game has kidnapped all of the Nativs and converted them into angry, often gun-toting, wolves called "Wolfen". Normally your button controls are a boomerang, jump, open door, use item, but when one of the wolfen is near your control changes to a combat setup - punch, kick, block, jump. If you beat the wolfen, he will lay unconscious with a number over his head. If you have at least that number of the collectable orbs you can exorcize them and free that individual - permanently. The interesting twist is that the combat sections are one time only. There is no respawning - once a wolf is freed, he'll go back to the town and never bother you again. (i.e., if you free one and then get killed, that one is still free and there will be one less Wolfen defending that area.) Often the game forces you to first run through and fight the wolfen, then afterwards solve the platforming puzzles - pull switch, stand on lever, etc.
Large parts of each level are speed traveling zones. There are these creatures called Jamgut. They are some sort of kangaroo/raptor thing that you can ride on. With a purchase from the enhancement shops you can get a long board for pipeline sections. Also there are a few long falling sections, where you are freefalling and trying to avoid obstacles.
Something that is way too often overlooked is the save system. With Kya you can save at any time. Also it automatically saves every time you free a Nativ or get to a checkpoint. For someone who rarely saves this is a big plus.
Visually this game reminds me of Jak & Daxter - it is detailed, but cartoon like. The gameplay and control feels very similar as well. If you like that game or platformers in general you'll probably like this as well. You'll get the normal level of irritation at platformer style mistakes - badly timed jumps or complex sequences (the sewer freefall was a chore), but the inventive combat system and extremely helpful navigation system make this a great game.
great family friendly game

We play our games with our 5 year old son watching and so screen carefully for what he is seeing. This game has all the best graphics, varied worlds, challenging play AND is fine for our kiddo to enjoy as well. Did you like Jak and Daxter (the first one)? Then you should like this game too.

Kya, dark lineage is only mediocre, not too good, not too bad. It isnt junk or nothing, its just, kinda boring. The premise was interesting enough, even though it could have been better. Kya and her brother Frank get sucked into a wierd world, Frank gets captured, kya escapes , kya now must save the alternate world. So the story isnt all too original. Kya is fiesty, I'll give her that. The camera is horribly sluggish, to the point of frustration (I wanted to tear out my hair sometimes). The combat, though robust, is hard to execute, I resorted to button-mashing. It is a bit fun though. The puzzles are excellent i admit, and are welcome in a world of "key hunt" puzzles. The graphics are OK, the worlds are meant to be cartoony, but they arent too great and lack detail. The music is also Ok. Before my shortest review ends, K:DA is OK all-over, so dont bother.
Graphics and Color like Jak and Daxter 1!

I like this game so far because of the colors and humor in the characters. It is cool that we finally see a girl as the main character, something wierd though is that she is off to find her 1/2 brother Frank but somewhere I read she was in love with him, I have to pretend I didn't hear that it's too wierd. The levels are hard to get to at first. Long start, just as it gets going you hit another long patch before you open another area. I haven't finished yet, but my time and I are invensted and I will see it through the end! My kids like playing with me and that is the best part about this game so far.

Our heroine and her brother are sucked into an alternate universe world. Our heroine, Kya, regains consciousness just in time to flee for her life with the help of one of the natives--giving a fast-paced school-of-hard-knocks demonstration of how the game's physics and nature works. Then you end up in the middle of the remaining native village, learn about the terrible threat of the Wolfen (and that your brother is probably in their clutches), and that you're the chosen one.
Being the chosen one means two things: You can use the weapons (more on those in a minute), and you can turn the Wolfen back to the Nativs (yeah, that's the name of the natives. Yeah, I agree.) once you finish knocking them out.
There are three things that make this game absolutely wonderful. The first is the combat system. Lesser creatures can be whacked by your boomerang, but with the Wolfen you typically have to personally whack them around until they stop moving. The fighting system in this game, however, is brilliant. Your moves are intuitive and your combos are relatively easy to learn, and you have a training room back in your home base that teaches you your attacks until you have them down. Rather than making you depend on studying a manual or relying on button-mashing, the game will allow you to practice (against a nonmoving straw opponent) every combo and trick you want to. If this doesn't sound brilliant, that's my own failing as a reviewer--it's an incredibly useful feature that should be in every fighting game.
Of course, Wolfen also go unconscious if you cause them to fall from a great height, cause something to fall on them, explode something near them, or cetera. If you can't get near them once they're kaput (or if you don't exorcise them for whatever reason), they'll reappear back where they were when you return to that area of the map. Different parts of the game unlock as you exorcise Wolfen, so I highly recommend aiming at 100%. As I understand it, the best ending doesn't unlock unless you do (I did it.)
The game is open-ended. You're given objectives by the tribal leader, but you're free to ignore them and explore on your own for as long as you like. Some parts of the world, of course, will require you to have certain items to traverse (you can't get up the sheer cliff without the climbing gloves, for instance)
There are many many mini games, many of which are two-player and all of which can be used to win extra money. Happily, however, none of these games are necessary to the overall story, and I played most of 'em only once or twice, being eager to get back to the original story.
The art is fantastic. The only time the illusion is shattered is during an infrequent polygon error--most of the time, the feeling of immersion is on par with the best games available for the PS2 today. That feeling is especially awesome during times when you can pull off something ridiculous (like triggering a chain-reaction explosion involving barrels of gasoline and gunpowder while twenty Wolfen are busy inspecting that area.)
The puzzles could be a little more complex (usually figuring out what to do is easier than actually doing it), but are involved and interesting.
The story was simple enough for a preteen to enjoy, but still interesting and still had a surprise or two for me (though for the most part it was fairly easy to plot in advance)
The music leans toward Techno in flavor.
I have been lending my copy to friends, and the only ones who don't seem to get addicted to the game instantly are those who dislike games with arcade-style aspects (it can be frustrating to, for instance, fire bombs from a turret on a train at the cannons on an airship, then leap from the train to a running horse-thing, then leap from that to the platforms on the airship, hoping to knock out the Wolfen driving it before it goes through the curtain of lava.)
This game is rated [T]een, but I believe it's appropriate for all age groups. The heroine is a strong and positive and nonstereotyped female role model, at no point in the story does the game even seem to notice that fact--it's not an issue.
If you aren't intimidated by action-based games, can solve a moderately complex puzzle, like exploring, and like variety in your games, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of this game.
I give the game 5/5 for fun, and 4/5 overall only because I would have liked a little more complexity in the puzzles and storyline.

I have beaten this game. It took quite a while, and a lot of gameplay going back and forth. It was quite fun free-falling, and using the slides! I had a great time playing it.
The worlds are well put together, I do wish that it had better mapping, but I got around using what was there. I loved trying those kick-@ss moves on those wolves!! (Swinging them around by their tails and such.) It was one of the best platform games I've played thus far. It does stand up there within the top 10 with Rachet & Clank, and Jak & Daxter.
Don't waste your time renting it, buy this one. It's worth having if you want to try some cool things as far as fighting, riding a dino-type thing, free-falling, wind floating, and small puzzles...that take you places. :-) This one takes longer than a couple of days.
Sometimes ridiculously complicated

This was a great game... in spite of being really frustrated at times with the situation and my own inept game-play skills. It was an amazing game and a whole lot of fun to play. The first part of the game though is a real intense start, no calm. Hi how ya doin set- up thing you have to do stuff right away. It was insane. It was beautiful and a lot of fun. As for the whole thrown together bit. Not true, it's thought out. THough sometimes quite annoyingly thought out. It's a very worthwhile game adn when you look at the price the number of hours you get to play are well worth the price. This game is fun and I like blue hair. :p
BTW Kya didn't just mystically become athletic in the beginning scene it's apparent that she IS athletic so I don't find it that great of a leap.
Confusing but good

It's great that the main character is a cute girly-girl (who can also fight) -it's about time! I like how you can wander around, but my problem is how the map isn't that easy to follow. It's kind of a pain and easy to get lost.
However, I am going to buy this game and finish it. =)
My favorites are Spyro, Ty, Dark Cloud 2, and Whiplash.
