I thoroughly enjoyed Beyond Atlantis 2 because it was a change of pace from the usual "make 'em guess at what's going on and what to do next" sort of games I've managed to purchase lately. The storyline pretty much made sense and better than most I've played, however there are the inevitable disjointed moments inherent in pc games.
Basically, you are an archaeologist and are captured by the bad guy, who makes you investigate the mystery of the site for him. The story takes place in several areas that differ widely, and you find yourself taking on the life of someone else- a thief in Baghdad or Ice Age woman- which is a different twist from the usual.
Beyond Atlantis 2 will not tax your brain too much- the puzzles are moderate to easy and are clever. There are puzzles using inventory, but accessing your inventory is simply a matter of right clicking in and out of it. You must pick up a few items, and a couple are very hard to find.
There are a several puzzles that send you back to the beginning of that particular scene (not the game!) if you are wrong or do not act in the proper order (and the proper order is the puzzle). This can get frustrating. Many will find one area, with its intricate looking paths and fish-eye view extremely difficult. But, it looks worse than it is and you cannot get lost. Look carefully, and you will notice landmarks to guide you. (Even with random clicking, I always came back to the same spot)
I used UHS hints a few times, but never for a full solution; a gentle nudge was adequate. If you like hard, intricate puzzles, you will be disappointed in BA2. There are hints given in the game via the characters you meet- listen carefully.
I enjoyed the humor greatly. From the wisecracking mummy with a cold (who sits tapping his bony fingers against his sarcophagus while waiting for you) to the eunuch guards who do a little jig as they get out of your way. You even find humor in the puzzles. Getting up the tower steps involves playing a game with a monkey.
The voice acting, with one glaring exception, is done very, very well. Unfortunately, that character is you and you have to listen to a beautiful accent delivered without any expression at all. Everyone else, though, is better than the average game. The music was also better than average, although repetitious.
The graphics were lovely and nicely detailed, with good use of color. Cut scenes were nicely done and were not skimpy. I loved the carving coming to life. My 3 year old laptop had no trouble running the program, however I think the graphics might have been sharper had it been on a better machine. Options are easy to access and use.
As a parent, I appreciate comments that alert me to questionable content, so here's a few notes for those of you with younger kids and who would rather not be surprised when a guard gets his throat cut. There is violence from knives and guns. There is also a character, a thief, who encounters 3 very, very scantily clad women- think Janet and her pasties. There are 2 swear words- nothing worse that what most kids hear on TV.
Overall, Beyong Atlantis 2 is short, fun, easy to look at and will make for a pleasant weekend.

Great 3D graphics and sound! 3 fabulous CDs. Very interesting game, has nothing to do with the movie. I played it with pleasure!

Both Beyond Atlantis and Beyond Atlantis 2 are great adventure games. These games give you plenty of different places to explore, puzzles both easy and complex, beautiful graphics, and characters to interact with. The Atlantis series are my favorite next to The Longest Journey.

I'm not a hard core gamer, but even I realized that this game is just above average. It was far too short, the main character's voice acting was horrible, and the story had no depth. I found myself wondering what the big deal with the skull was, and it ended right where it should have begun. The graphics were wonderful and the puzzles were fun, but it only kept me occupied for 2 days. If you want a true gaming experience, go for the "Myst" series; those games are a true treat.

The game in the whole is not bad although it doesn't tie well together. Every adventure is not linked to the other. You change worlds, collect items and solve puzzles, but basically every world is a new start. There is only one element that links the whole game, the dolphin in the skull and that part is really boring since you have to look for the dolphin but there is really no way to find it but luck! I was hoping for something more challenging. The storyline was a bit lame also.
Enjoyable Game from a 40 yr old

I'll admit to using walkthroughs right off because more often than not I either get lost, or the puzzles frustrate the heck out of me and I'm short-tempered. Even with a walk-through this was fun for me. My reason for buying a game like this is because of the landscapes and the animated sequences. In this game, they are beautiful! As an artist, though, my one complaint extends to the heroine herself - her hands/wrists/arms never quite moved naturally. It was kind of creepy.
I've read several reviews where folks didn't much care for the heroine's "deadpan" and "monotone" voice. Honestly, I don't think it was her problem. The dialogue she had to work with didn't really give her much of a chance to emote.
Either way, for me those negatives did not deter from enjoying the game. If you want a game where you can just relax and get lost for awhile, I believe this is a good one.
The Bagdad Magic Garden makes the game special

This game has one special level that makes the game sparkle and stand out for it's originality. In search of a Black Rose, the plot within the plot unfolds, in a magical midnight garden filled with strange creatures, seductive Harem girls, and a tower to the stars.
Another highly original repeating theme is the crystal skull, where you travel through brain synapses in search of the secret passage directions.
I highly recommend this game. I really enjoyed the middle sequence of jumping from small little islands up into a floating island. (Can anyone say Schizm, but with a flair of fun. Schizm was sooooo joyless).
Anyway, this game is worth every penny, and hey, some of the acting is excellent (It must be hard to transcribe French to English, and make the words fit. I can't imagine trying to voice over animation in different languages).
Beyond Atlantis 2 is beyond all expectations!

Stop what you're doing and buy this game. Seriously. But beware... once you play it, other character-based adventure games will seem like Pinball with Regis and Kathie Lee.
I bought Beyond Atlantis 2 on a whim, and was more than pleasantly surprised when I discovered that it is the most clever, involved, challenging, and beautifully designed program I have ever put inside my PC. Each world is like an entire game unto itself-- and the soundtrack is comprised of a rich variety (probably 20 or more tracks!) of well-composed, Moby-esque music that I would actually purchase on its own if it was available.
The graphics are amAZing, and the scenery and action so flawless and fun to watch that at times this game holds the entertainment value of a movie.
Again, I assert: buy this game, buy this game, please trust me and buy this game.
p.s. I haven't played Beyond Atlantis (the original) yet, but hopefully it's just as good! Now ordering...
