Some people are worried that the computer game EverQuest is more than a hobby. Instead, it's being described as an addiction. One counsellor has even nicknamed the game "EverCrack."
There are more than 400,000 EverQuest players in North America, and twenty-five to thirty hours a week of playing appears common. A recent study of 2,000 EverQuest players shows 45 percent of them admit to being addicted.
In Hudson, Wisconsin, Liz Woolley has already seen the down side of EverQuest. She says her 21-year-old son Shawn became addicted to the game. He was diagnosed with depression and eventually killed himself with EverQuest still flickering on his screen. Woolley says the maker of EverQuest, Sony On-Line, has made a game so powerful, it's addictive, and she wants Sony to put warning labels on the game.

I Have played Everquest since a few months after release. In the beginning it was fun, it was a new world to explore. After 40 levels or so you finally learn that is just turns into either a constant hassle looking for xp or You end up fighting with someone over the Rare loot in the game. Then you decide to turn to Trade skills. Another nice concept if you have alot of spare cash sitting around and don't want to ever make a profit from it unless you are of a few special classes Shaman and Enchanter come to mind. If you ever want to be able to do anything fun in this game get used to getting almost no sleep and having no life.
The first 20 levels are fun but after that it becomes a job that you pay to work at =)

I must confess that I spend 24 hrs a week playing this game. I stay up late into the night, and it is the first thing i do when i get up!!
however, the graphics arent anything special, i play it because i can interact with real people. However you will get frustrated because there are so many people playing it that you cant get where you want to go. I wouldnt recommend this game to anyone who doesnt have alot of spare time, you will find it cutting into the time that you have set away for other things. However i enjoy playing it. If you dont want to socialise may i reccomend Diablo II. The only thing i can say now is buy the basic game, its 10 bucks, the first month is free give it a shot, if you dont like it fine cancel your account, if you do like it then continue playing it get the expansions etc..

yes this game can be fun, but it is VERY addictive, i am a player of a year and a half, and am finally quitting. As far as the actual game goes, it seems very high-level focused, making it hard to start out. As well, combat can seem very redundant after a while.
Welcome to the end of PC boredom!

EQ is by far the greatest RPG on the PC ever made. Why?? One simple concept...INTERACTION! Unlike Ultima (NOT THE ONLINE VERSION) and Might & Magic... you actually interact with people. Granted it's [a monthly fee]to play...its a small price to pay for playing in a world you can't help but get completely sucked into. Is it repetitive?? YES IT IS!!! 4 months playing has taught me that. But when you step back and look at all that repetition you have done for 1 hour, 2 hours, 6 hours...better equipment, joined a guild, finished a quest, tons of cash, new spells, you get the picture.
To make a long review short...BUY IT!!!
Why is this now the only way to get Scars of Velious?

This game is awesome and very addicting, but I wish they had NOT stopped producing the two expansions included in this set, because now all their current players who had not yet gone out and purchased Scars of Velious are required to pay twice as much to get it. It is suddenly out of print. This is stupid!!

Everquest makes you feel right at home. If your little half-elf is tired of fighting by himself, the best thing to do is make friends with other players who are at the same level as you are or with a little bit more experience. Fight together with them as a group or see if you can get an invite to a guild. That was the best thing that happened to me on Everquest. Before that time, I felt lost in the game and was not sure what was going on all of the time. Being a member of a guild has brought a new educated light to my characters and made me a better player. Now this newbie is not so new anymore.
In addition to this, I would like to add that Everquest is good for long weekends inside when it is snowing or raining outside. Some might even say it is better than the perfect day at the beach. Besides, they DO have beaches in Norrath...
Oh gosh, were back to gay stuff.

This game is really annoying and can remind you of not the cool fantasy with adventure, but the little pink fairy magic that you see in the forest. Gosh, why do people like this game so much?
Im not even giving a review, because If you get it, youll cancel the subscription the next month like I did. Look at screenshots and itll tell you.
The pictures lie, its a trick, dont listen to them! If you want adventure like that, youll have to be playing till your an old man. Get Final fantasy XI, or Dark age of camelot or something.
cant play it

This game is literally the best. With even just these three editions (The Original and 2 Expansions), it is awesome. Pick from a set of classes, level up your characters, complete quests, join guilds... Almost unlimited what can be done in the game. Spells are awesome. The monsters are sweet. In short- this is truly the best game and will continue to be the best game for quite a long time, even AFTER Everquest 2 comes out.
Note- $... fee/month for game time is required, but DEFINITELY worth it.
