this would be a very fun game except that it keeps locking up and you have to shut the whole thing down and restart.

There is one rule in the tournament mode which makes as much sense as saying people never die when you know in fact that is totally wrong, absurd, and psychotic. In the stage trial, they have a rule which says everytime you land in the sand trap, that costs you a 2 stroke penalty no matter whether it's a par 3, 4, or 5. If that rule applies, then the par should be an 8, 11, or 72 for just 1 hole, not all 18 of them.
I was experimenting with that rule AND WITH VARIOUS CLUBS such as standard, turbo spin, and the 1000 ft hammer club and I was also experimenting with the different players such as Brad, Mel, Sam, and ALLAN, and no matter which person I tried, the ball either went out of bounds anyway, or it found the sand trap. Is the object of golf to get triple bogeys and encourage others to waste their money on such lunacy? The people who wrote this pedestrian and antique program sure think so or they wouldn't be laughing all the way to the bank either. Would they enjoy standing in the unemployment line as the bill collectors ask for the money they advanced?
It seems there is no way around this nauseating rule of sand traps unless you choose to vomit and puke on George Bush's desk at the White House and let's see the people at Klap Hanz even get past the security guards! send me your photos if you get that far, ok because a deal is a deal here! That sand trap rule of +2 makes as much sense as using a putter off the tee and using a driver on the green.
I see no difference in the logic or in the analogy between their nerve racking terms and mine because no game is fun to play because of their been there, done that b.s. There was even a case where I tried to avoid the sand traps only to find that some moron left the golf cart right smack in the fairway which deflected the ball out of bounds. Why not try indecent exposure during a bank robbery and see if the judge will bestow any mercy on your criminal butt! This game is a joke and I'm not laughing any more than what a cook does when peeling onions in front of a skunk.

This game is slow, this game is boring. However, it does have very nice scenary. You only get 2 characters to start with so there is a lot of unlocking to do. But the game just isn't interesting enough to make you want to play it again. SORRY Hot Shots, you're getting traded in for another title.
Fun golf game overall

The Hot Shots series is for the non-hardcore golf fan. It's cartoony, has no character development, and requires little dexterity. That doesn't mean it's not fun, there's just not a lot to do besides hit the ball.
This is the 4th game in the series, which makes large improvements over the third release, a game that had only five courses. This time we've got 12 full courses, a 3 par 9 hole course, and a mini golf game. Sony has also licensed its characters to the game developers so you can play with Jak and Daxter and Rachet and Clank, among the usual weirdoes created for the game.
The look of the game is okay; the courses have a nice blend of realism and cartoony atmosphere. Mechanics break down to a three button-tap process where the first starts the swing, the second gauges strength, and the third accuracy. Land the third on the sides of the accuracy mark and the ball will slice into the trees. Pretty standard stuff.
Winning courses and tourneys in the larger game will net you money you can spend on items such as clubs and balls, but there is no way to really manage your character like in the Tiger Woods' series. This is the kind of game you play with your friends when you're drunk, ya know.
There is an online mode, which has a 4-player mode and a holy-good-God 50-player tournament mode.
Overall, I had fun with this game, even if it's better suited for a guys drunken party atmosphere.
Fun but annoying..

I have had this game for a week and overall its fun but there are alot of annoying things that make this game shy of 5 stars. The voices overlap and are overused.. its annoying. The camera options suck. I dont feel like typing much more because I have a hangover. I think I will buy Tiger Woods.
Awesome fun!

While this game is a mixture of fantasy and realism, it offers some fun golf. You can pick from a whole arsenal of crazy looking characters and even Jak, Ratchet, etc. The game is fun for multiplayer and online, plus for the price you can't put it down. The game has great graphics and unbelieveable backgrounds. For you people who just like golf and want to save some money I would strongly agree to buy this game! Thanks for listening to my review.

It's a very challenging fun game for people of all ages. Some of the dialogue gets repetitive, but still enjoyable.
Three and a half stars really...

This is pretty fun. The character graphics are amusing and the courses are pretty and well done. It's got some flaws that I feel will work out with a LOT of practice which is why I wish you could give half stars here on Amazon. It's not a four star game but it's also not a three star game.
Some comments on game features:
Ignore the "Nice Shot" graphic that pops up often. It means nothing and only applies to the strike ON the ball. You can drive 40 yards past the green and into the trees or sand and still be told you made a 'Nice shot'.
The voice acting of both the caddies and your opponents is ANNOYING, they repeat themselves incessantly and appear to only have a very few phrases each. Luckily you can X through such rather quickly.
Pay attention to the wind. It really has an effect on your ball. When the club info says you can drive X yards and it's X yards to the hole be aware that balls WILL roll and course slope will have a large effect. The physics are pretty good here. So good it can be quite a challenge starting off.
Putting is a pain. You really need to pay attention to the way the green breaks. It's SO easy to hit too hard and rim-out of the cup or too soft and stop just inches away.
The AI is good but not, thankfully, perfect. It's going to take some practice to string together winning streaks or even your first win. I've got some disability problems with my hands and find easy mode with the 'everyone' clubs to be quite a challenge.
The mini-putt course (you have to unlock the 2nd one by scoring high in the 1st) has some annoying features. If you go out of bounds, into the water or over par your turn on that hole is OVER. I don't care how bad I'm doing I'd actually like to finish the hole myself without the game deciding I'm done for me.
All in all this is a fun game, with a few non-critical annoyances. Kids and adults (I'm 41) will find it enjoyable and a challenge. It's well worth the price and a good addition to anyone's game collection.
Almost perfect

First, let me tell you up front that I LOVED HSG3. I especially loved the par 3-courses and I did master the game. That being said, HSG Fore is a LOT harder than HSG3! Sure, the graphics are cleaned up, and mini-golf is added. But somehow, it seems a bit more difficult and a slight bit less fun. Not a huge degree, but I can definately say that they stressed more realism in this version.
You can play with "Everyone's" club which basically let's you just select the power meter and then you just whack the ball. Right down to down to micro shot management and losing strokes for hitting into the rough or sand.
In the end, it's the online play that carries this game. I don't see a ton of people online so PLEASE get an online apapter and join. It's FREE and it's simple. Plus, you can choose from limited clubs, player vs. player or even super large holes. There's a bevy if choices!!
So, if you love golf, grab a conroller and an internet connection and try to find someone online. I notice the main room is pretty empty at times, but I am JEC333, so look for me and feel free to roam the broadband internet, that's where this low priced game shines.
