I've had Links Golf on my PC for years and have always enjoyed the beauty of the courses and the realistic play. When I got a PS2 unit and saw HSG3 at my local electronics store, it looked a little too cartoonish for my liking. But then I tried it and it is addictive, addictive and addictive. My wife is regretting buying me the PS2 and I regret having to turn HSG3 off for mundane things like eating, housework and going to my job!
The characters (both the golfers and the caddies) are great and are a riot to watch. They get a little repetitive as most only have one or two sayings per situation, but still fun nonetheless. I enjoy the VS mode where you pick a character available to you and you play head to head against a character you don't have access to yourself. If you beat that character, you have access to him/her for future matches. But as you progress, the new characters are tougher and usually are able to stick the ball withing 5 feet of the cup for a birdie opportunity almost every time, so as Tiger Woods would say, "You have to bring your A game".
There is also a tournament mode where you compete for prizes (the ability to unlock golf clubs, new courses, tips, additional graphical goodies, videos and statistics). I have breezed through the early tournaments as the HSG3 swing meter is similar to that of Links for the PC, but I know as I progress that it will get tougher and tougher to win.
My only real complaint about the game is that the environmental sound effects (cicadas, dragonflys) can drive you absolutely batty and I still haven't found a way to stop them or deaden their effect. I would turn down the sound, but the chatter and music add to the experience.
So far this is my favorite PS2 game. Buy one and you'll see why.

I tried to get into Mario Golf awhile back, but I couldn't. Sorry Nintendo, the game looked cool, but didn't hold my interest. Well, with Hot Shots 3, I am hooked. This one comes out kicking from the start. Easy to play, tight ...controls, and well-designed courses. Go ahead, pick this one up.
a lot of fun and with a great sense of humor

I don't particularly like golf, but I really quite enjoy HOT SHOTS GOLF 3. It's easy enough to learn, but tricky enough to take some time to master. Instead of offering up another "realistic" interpretation of sports, HSG3 delivers a fun parody that's really enjoyable.
The characters and caddies are funny, though eventually repetitive. The animation and character design is humorous. It's not all beautiful to look at, but I do appreciate the design and effort made into including as many stereotypes as possible.
Combine that with 4 player versus, some in game booing, and some chips and drinks, and you've got yourself a really fun few hours of play for that afternoon get together.
HSG3 is one of the more enjoyable games I've played recently.

I sold my PS2 last year for an XBox but I kept this game, slim chance that I got another PS2. I really missed Hotshots Golf 3. I would drink beer after work and play a round of 18. I missed it. I missed the bet that me and a buddy had for the first hole in one either of us would score. The bet was to do shots of whiskey in celebration. Neither of us ever had that whiskey until two weeks ago. With March Madness winnings I bought me a new PS2.
HSG3 is a golf game that doesn't take itself serious. The taunts are really funny and will be stuck in your head for days. The courses feel very lifelike, full of colors and unlockable animals, great weather effects. Since I sold my memory card last year, I am playing through the tourney mode, unlocking all the clubs and other goodies once again.
If you are looking for a serious golf game with collared shirt stiffs, this is not your game. The Power Meter system in this games works just fine for me, but I hear the controls in Tiger are really good as well.
I'm not a golfer and don't have any serious plans of ever becoming one. I've been on a golf course less times than I have fingers on my left hand. Don't even know why I actually ever bought this game, in all truth. Good reviews I guess, something different from all the action titles and RPGS out there. Not too serious a game if you don't want it to be, but the depth is there if you're looking for it; about 12 unlockable players, tourneys, unlockable clubs and courses. Great fun. ;o)

This is a great game for golf lovers, or people who just want to play a game without all the violence you see in many games today. Graphics are great. Golf courses are awesome. Characters are funny. Great family game.
A must have for anyone who wants to play a video game that actually relaxes you instead of stressing you out.
great game with a few flaws

Wonderful game where the difficulty is pretty consistent with your progress although it's frustrating with some golfers that have a natural curve and you don't know how to compensate for it. Some of the character comments during versus mode are a little weird but sometimes downright annoying and repetitive. The second wave of characters is tougher and seem to get lucky breaks even more often than their counterparts.
Great Game for Everyone

The first characteristic that struck me about Hot Shots Golf, is the learning curve is very short but the replayability is still there. Hot Shots is so much fun, people who don't like golf will enjoy this game. Besides playing against others, the best play modes are VS. mode and tournament mode. Vs. mode lets you unlock other players while tournament mode lets you increase your rank and level. Overall, this is a must-buy game.

I owned tiger woods 2001 before and still do. they are two totally different games. In hot shots you dont have to worry about swinging straight as in tiger but you must hit the ball square or the shot will not be great. the game is generally easy (easier than tiger) I like the vs. mode where you have to play different computer golfers and if you beat them in a match you get them also if your blowing them out by more than 4 strokes the game is an automatic win. each time you shoot a great shot you get money/points to buy different things (animations, special clubs/balls it is a great game so go out and buy it NOW. you will not be disappointed. By the way i love golf!
This game is great!!... So much fun to play!!

If you like the previous Hot Shots games for Playstation, you won't be disappointed with Hot Shots 3. The gameplay is the same as its always been, which is a good thing. The graphics are hands down the best I've ever seen on a console golf game. There are so many things that are great about this game I don't know where to begin. If you like golf or if you don't like golf this game is great. Call a couple of buddies over and you can play this game for hours.
This game has everything, tournaments, stroke play, a par 3 course, and even a national tournament, which you can post your score on Sony's web site and see how you stack up against the rest of the nation.
Stop reading this review and buy this game!!...
You will not be disappointed!!...

The grafics are better than swing away golf. I love the new greens. You can read them a lot easier. I have waited two years for this game and I am the least bit dissapointed. I would recomend this game to anyone. And the National Tournaments are brilliant. Wouldn,t it be neat to play in a tournament against people from around the globe and maybe make money at it.
