If you liked Parappa the Rapper - buy this game! You'll love it. It get's to be much more challenging than Parappa on 'master' mode, but the songs are so great it's worth playing again and again. This is one of those games you need to own - it's a classic.

Since the first time I saw Gitaroo-man on the shelves, I seriously thought this game looked pretty dumb. It totally looked like something I would never even play. But after reading about it and seeing other reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. Let me tell you, I had really misjudged this game by it's cover.
First off, let me describe the music in the game in one word: Addicting!!!! Really, the music in this game is the best thing about it. I am planning to buy the soundtrack soon. Songs from (Rock to Techno to Reggae...) Magificient.
Also, the first time I tried this game, it is "somewhat" okay to catch on. Directing the analog stick is probably the most confusing parts (It still is even now). It will take A LOT of practice to master some of these songs and get to the next level. Guarding/blocking the moves from the computer is fine...until you get the part where they start throwing all these buttons at you. Definately challenging, but fun.
I recommend this game to anyone. If you like DDR, Drumania, or any of those type of music games, you will probably enjoy this one as well.
Absolutely Addicting Game!!

Words can't describe how amazing and addicting this game is. It's easy to catch on and to learn, but it's tricky to master. If you're not a very co-ordinated person then this game might be a bit hard to pick up, but after a few tries you'll really start to get the hang of the different songs and musical styles.
I too am stuck in Master Mode at the Sanbone Trio, level 7 I think. I've got the beginning patterns down perfectly, but every now and then, mid-way through the song, different parts will come at you at different times. SO, it's really hard to try and memorize patterns because they keep changing and rearranging themselves. Best of luck for anyone who gets this far. But to shed some light on the situation, it is possible to beat. I have a few friends who have beaten the game on Master Mode but it does take some time dedicated to this game. And trust me, it's not hard to throw in hours at this addicting game.
I'd totally recommend this game to absolutely anyone, whether you like this styles of games or not. It's totally awesome!!
Get this game. No, seriously, GET THIS GAME!

Ah, this game, at first, had me scratching my head. Eh? A guitar to fight enemies? Goofy looking characters? At first, I was like, "It's stuff like this that makes me wonder what our friends overseas were thinking of", and scoffed at it. I finally decided to give it a try. I was wondering because many believe that this game is underrated.
I only have four words: GET. THIS. GAME. NOW!!!
This game is HIGHLY underrated. If you're any fan of Parappa (you liked it, or hated it, but you at least played it), you will love this game. At first, the controls threw for a loop. but after a bit of practice, they became second nature. They are different, and very easy to learn, but you'll sit there for hours playing through just to get better control. It's not a bad thing; this game is just fun.
The story is about a young man named U-1 with little self confidence, wanting to win the hand of his girl from a rich snob by proving himself to her. His talking dog (?) Puma then lets him know he's a desendant of a legendary race of guitar playing heroes (??) who fight evil with an instrument called a gitaroo (???). Hilarity insues, as Puma tries to train U-1 (you) for battle and then you're attacked first by Satan in huggies (?!?), while your uniform has WINGS ON HIS HELMET!
Don't take this as a diss on the game. It threw me for a loop, had me cracking up, and then the game started and I was immediately hooked: The game's characters are colorful, without a doubt. A bee suit wearing Huggy Bear trumpet player, flying keyboard UFOs, and a guy who kinda looks like Buzz Lightyear on steroids. The sounds are some of the best songs I've heard EVER in any video game, as you'll be humming right along with them. The game looks good too, as it gives you a different type of anime flair that has its own distinct flavor.
Difficulty? I was able to blow through the game after a bit, until I decided (since I'm a musician anyway) to check out Master's Play. Yeow, now THERE'S your challenge and replay value RIGHT THERE. Master's Play beat me down like a little girl, and asked me if I liked the beating.
All in all, if you like music or music games, you will love this game. The gameplay is good, the characters are a hoot, the challenge will have you shaking your head (and pumping your fist after the last note of the board), and you can even play the versus mode against the computer, which adds more replay value. Plus, when playing the game, based on certain situations, your gitaroo line may differ, and the song may differ a bit, so it's fun to play through to hear the different variations of the songs you're playing. But why are you still reading this review? GET THIS GAME NOW!!!!!

This is one of those wierd Japanese games that you often hear about, but rarely make it over to our shores (Europe anyway). It is not the kind of game I would usually consider buying, though I did own Parappa The Rapper, but though that was amusing initially, I quickly grew tired of it. Gitaroo Man is so much better than Parappa.
I first saw this game on a demo cd from a games magazine, and it had the second level from the game on it. I ended up playing it hundreds of times and became completely hooked, to the point where I had to get the game. I found a cheap copy about 6 months after it's release and for the money I paid it was easily worth it. While there are only ten levels and if you are any good you will complete it within a couple of hours, there is definetely a lot of replay value. Also a very hard difficulty level is unlocked when completing the game, you can now play through again on this difficulty and it is very hard. Only experts need apply for this difficulty as the notes come past at such speed, with tricky button combinations, and guitar sequences. Anyone who can complete that can rightly call themselves an expert.
The only problem with the game is obviously the length, it is short and it is debatable whether it is worth full price, if you can pick it up cheap though it is great fun, and the music, though cheesy, will stay in your head for weeks. The multi-player mode is also great, so get a few friends round and you'll have a blast on this, excellent game.
Get it while it's cheap

Back in October of 05, I bought this game for $90 from eBay, because my brother wanted it for xmas and I couldn't find it anywhere else. To him, it was worth the $90. Now, I have seen three copies at local game stores for $39, and now I see more than ten copies on amazon for only $45. It wasn't even available here in October! Less than half a year has passed! If the price/availability keeps fluctuating, the prices will be back up to $90 in a matter of weeks! Get it now while it is cheap, I urge you. Do not wait, because I doubt it will get much cheaper than this.

I see a lot of people have reviewed and wrote some stuff for this game, so I keep it short for you. If you like music at all, you'll love it! At first it's a bit frustrating, but you get better and it passes. Yes! you learn how to become better and continue through the game! One of the only things I didn't like was the little child/kiddy story line. I don't know many middle school kids that could play a game this hard. For the next one, could we give it a more mature story or something?....PLEASE?!?
wonderful!

This is such a unique game! Also, one of the more difficult games. Get ready to put a lot of time into it because it takes a long time to master. Still so much fun!
Way to short and easy

This game is the 2nd best music/rythem game I have ever played. Guitar Hero is the first. This game is just amazing. It is extremely fun but the fun is short lived because I beat this game in less than four hours and only lost 2 times the whole game. I hope they make a Gitaroo man two. I highly recommend renting this game because it is just to easy.
