Lots of Fun mixed with Lots of Glitches

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: August 14, 2004

For fans of both the Indiana Jones films and avid video game players, the arrival of Indiana Jones and the Emerors Tomb was the event they had been waiting for a LONG time. Well the wait was finally over and we got a game that was a lot of fun but was unfortunately plagued with a LOT of glitces. The term "Cut Scenes" take on a whole new meaning here as many of them abruptly end before characters have even finished talking and many times do not feel smoothly integrated into the play levels. The play levels themselves can be a lot of fun though, with lots of punching, ducking, rolling, swinging, whipping, shooting, and just about everything else you'd expect from an Indiana Jones adventure. But the really cool thing about this game is that it really breaks beyond the usual third person adventure game doldrums (those produce by repetative and redundant running, jumping, shooting, etc.) by really giving you a variety of action throughout the levels that really keeps things interesting. For example, after a level of running and shooting you might go into a level that is played entirely swimming in and under water. Or you might go from an action level into a more puzzle-solving style portion of the game. Some of the funnest or the "trap" level where Indy will fall through a trap door or get stuck in a giant booby-trap from which you must escape by thinking very quickly and being fast on your feet (or thumbs in this case). Lots of fun and very reminicent of the movies.
The down side to this game are the glitches. You will ocasionally get stuck in a corner from which you cant escape (especially in some of the underwater areas) and some of the controls can be a little frustrating but in all fairness these are problems that seam to apply to most games.
As far as the story goes, it's pretty cool and feels like an Indiana Jones movie up until about half way through(lots of arab, asian, and eoropean locations and villains) but at that point the game becomes increasingly more unrealistic with demon creatures, statues coming to life and flying wizards. It would have been cooler if they kept it a little closer to the movies where most of the elements are a little more realistic with just a bit of the supernatural thrown in here and there. But then, this is a video game so it's understandable and the game is still fun to play.
One more small complaint, the voice actore who does Indys voice is not a very good match for Harrison Ford. I'v noticed other reviewers comment on how much he sounds like him and I will admit there are times when he sound very close but there are other times, especially during the cut scenes were you can really tell it's not him. Just a minor gripe but it would have been cool if the guy sounded more like him.
But this really is a fun game over all. If you like third person adventure games you will not have waisted your money if you pick this up. I just wish the company that made this game would do a sequel and iron out the glitches that kept this game from being the ultimate Indiana Jones game experience. Come on Collective! Get crackin' on that new game!

Frustrating But A Lot Of Fun

I bought this game quite a while ago now, pretty cheaply, & i love it, it can be a game where you can yell & scream if you get so close to the end of 1 stage then you stuff it up & have to do it all over again. The graphics are great, i love the whole feel of the game, the worlds i explore while i am playing it. The most frustrating stage ever is The End-"Von Beck's Revenge" where he is chasing you in a tank & you have to keep constantly jumping, use your whip to wrap around the over head beams above the many pitfalls in the stage, it took me well over 100times to do it, but i finally did it. I just can't wait to finish it. Frustrating game, but a lot of fun to play.

Best Action Game Ever!

this game takes place right before the second movie so. If your looking for a great game dont listen to those bad reviews. every thing about this game is great. somepeople say the contols are hard, but they really arent. the only way the will be hard is if you change them. there are some pretty cool places to travel to. the story line is great it has some great moments. it NEVER takes a boring turn there is awlays lots of excitement. there are soo many different wepons to use. even though their are many wepons to choose from i preffer to just knock em out! fighting is awesome! there are many different charicters bad and good. its not too easy to beat the guys up but not to hard. after you beat all the levels there is one more thing to do. in each area there are different artifacts. travel back to uncover them. once your done that you will get a suprise. after you beat this you wont be able to wait for the next one.

Good game with a few faults

First the good about this game. The graphics and sound effects were very good, true to the Indiana Jones movies more than previous games. You do get the "in the movie" feel while playing. The lack of a Save feature suprisingly is not as bad as previous people have mentioned. Only a couple levels were very long where a save would have been good. It seems to add to the realism where you have to try something a few times and finally you get it right all the way through.

Now the reasons I give this game a 4 and not 5. The plot seemed a little shallow, where sometimes you would wonder exactly why Indy was flying to a certain location. The character animations could use a little work, not quite lifelike. At certain points there were a few too many rope swings or jumps, which took some fun away from the game and made it seem tedious.

All in all a good game. Were there frustrating points, sure. Would I buy it again, yes. The atmosphere and scenery make the pain worth the effort. Just be prepared to get used to the controls and that you will have to master some skills to succeed.

Hey,
I was just reading the reviews you guys were writing here highlighting a few problems you are having. Well, if you are writing about the PC version of the game, you are in luck. LucasArts is well aware of the problems currently hindering their game and is currently working on updates for it availible for download for it from their website. Currently, they have release a small patch which you can find at:
http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/indyet.htm
but make sure to keep checking back their in the future for larger updates. Hope this helps!

I have had this game for about 1 month, and it is one of my favorites. Some of it's highlights are:

-good graphics
-fun and realistic fighting
-intriuging storyline
-classic Indy feel
-large arsenal of weapons
-ability to pick up things like liquor bottles, chairs, and tablelegs and use them as weapons

The only sucky thing is that if you die, you restart the level. However,it's not hard to get to where you were. For anyone who care's, I'm in peng lai lagoon right now.Oh, and 1 other thing. You should DEFENETLY downloud the demo to see if it works on your computer. So, good luck!

My favorite computer game

Indiana Jones and the emperor's tomb is probably the best action game I've played so far!! It's much better than the infernal machine since it's a newer game but I would still recommend the infernal machine to all indiana jones fans.

Plot: The main objective of the game is to travel to China and try to recover the three parts of the mirror of dreams and find the heart of the dragon before it falls into the hands of the Nazis. I thought that the game had a very good story to it.

Weapons: In this game, you do not collect the same amount of guns that you did in the infernal machine but this game spotlights on hand-to-hand combot. The main gun in your inventory is Indy's trusty revolver but you also collect: a shotgun, luger, MP-40 SMG, and a mauser. But there are also improvised weapons such as a table leg or a chair that Indy can use for a certain amount of time in the game. They do come in handy!

Locations: In the very beginning of the game, Indy travels to the Ceylon but he will then travel to Prague, Istanbul, Hong Kong and China.

Graphics: The graphics in this game were much better than in the Infernal Machine. It sometimes makes you feel like your in the game. The sound in the game is also good. Indy's voice sounds like Harrison Ford's Ford's voice and also you can hear the other sounds easily.

I have finally beaten the enire game. Now I can probably beat the whole game in 2 days but it's still fun to play.

If you are an Indiana Jones fan, you played the Infernal Machine or your just looking for a good action game, than this is the game you should buy!!!!!

Indyýs The Emperorýs Tomb - Move Over Tomb Raider

Just when you think it can't get any harder than this - it does! All I can say is I did not want the game to end. My hat off to the game designers. Fantastic adventure. Saving points were not too far spaced apart to avoid frustration. If I've spent an hour playing a game and still can't save, the game becomes kindling. As Indy would say - "Well that won't do."

The game is very enjoyable. Sometimes I couldn't hear the funny things Indy would say because of all the noise in the background but this is minor compared to the game's overall excitement level. That was a nice teaching tool also by including a map showing where these countries are that Indy travels to. I will definitely recommend this game.

Lucas Arts Should Fix Problems Before Selling Anymore

The character's motion is horrible. This makes it difficult to positioin and complete tasks properly, causing a mistake that takes you back to the beginning of the same frustrating trip you just took. Can't save at all (then why do they give you ten spots to "save" in?) I do not have the amount of time this grueling game needs. I WANT to play this game without these frustrations because it could be a great game. It has wonderful scenery and smart obstacles and the plot is great. I hope they'll fix these issues, because it's now shelved and I have lost {money}. It almost seems that it was pushed out in a hurry without being complete, just to make a deadline. I so want to play it! Lucas Arts should make good on their product. I'll keep looking for the fix!

A Dissapointing game for Indy

When i heard about the release of this game i was very excited and anticipated a great game. I finally got the game and when i played it, my first impression was the graphics. They are terrible! Even in cut sequences they are rubbish and are just the same as in the gameplay graphics. People who say that the graphics are good are just biast and really do not understannd anything about graphic quality.
