I've never played it. I'm only rating this because my kids asked me to. They loved it.

I have had this game for some time now. Actually got it last year for christmas. To be honest I have not played it much. I have tried but it is a real mess to figure out. I see some reviews and they say a great game for all ages.....seriously don't write garbage like that.....that statement can not be further from the truth. I am 40 and I can't figure this one out. My 5 year old girl forget it.
The game does not go along to the movie. There are robots and vines and all sorts of stuff that the movie did not have. You do things to the robots they then turn into some green weed like things.....then you turn the weeds into a ball. You then have to shoot the balls into some holes. And none of this is in the movie and none of this is intuitive. You see Augustus stuck in a tube and you gotta figure this all out.....does it make sense to you?
I sit on some of the stages and wonder what the heck I am supposed to do for hours. Then shut the game off and later on I try the game and some of this stuff comes to me.....it is one of those games that you gotta take time away from our else you will go nuts. You walk around rooms for hours....trying everything and nothing really works.
I really don't think the graphics are all that good eithe....a little dark. And the large candy room when (in the movie) the kids walk into has too much grass between objects. You see some candy trees and hills every 50 yards or something that is it. And the trees all look the same.
I will try this game again I am sure. It is also kinda disappointing because you really see no 'living objects' other than the Oompa Lompas. Willy Wonka talks and Grandpa Joe also talks but you never interact between anyone other than Oompa Loompas and robots. I have only played the Augustas Gloop levels and doubt seriously it will change much on the other levels. Augustus Gloop for example only appears in the segments between levels and it is not an 'moving' Augustus Gloop but a picture of Augustus Gloop.
I was disappointed. Would of liked to play this game in front of my daughter because she likes the movie but she can not even watch me play because it bores her. Buy it if you chose but don't say I didn't warn you.
Forced Mass Merchandising Detracts from Enjoyment

When a movie is anticipated so strongly through mass marketing and is then followed up with mass merchandising, there will generally be plenty of mistakes and shortcuts taken with the resulting products. This is sadly the case with the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Video Game for PS2. Roald Dahl would be spinning in his grave if he saw this, let alone tried to play it.
It is obvious that the movie was not near completion yet when they released this game, as the storyboards were dissimilar and there were no actor shots or movie scenes edited into the game. The play is difficult and at times annoying - tasks such as saving the giant jelly bean stalk - or helping Violet Beuregard while fighting the evil robots are not made any easier by the programmers obvious inconsistencies and blatant mistakes. There are times when using the triangle button will be the method of operating a device, yet on the next screen it will be the square. The Camera point of view is constantly moving in behind a structure, especially when climbing a precarious stalk, ladder, ramp, etc, and having to stop and redirect causes annoyance and delay in the fun (not much fun)
The video game industries trend to create these monolithic adventures loaded with mini-challenges, hidden secrets and undisclosed strategies is fine - but they have set the bar as such to allow bad copy-cat games to come forward and clog up the market place. The only way to know wha games are good and what are not is to do some real research on the web and here what others are saying.
This game is the pits and I do not recommend it to anyone who has things to do other than sit in front of their PS2 for 12 weeks armed with 2 cases of jolt cola and a 3 week supply of pringles.

THIS GAME WILL FUSTRATE MANY LITTLE KIDS. It is also a rip off. I'd wait to buy it when it's in the discount bin. The Part that really P.O.ed me was when you take these fuzzy balls (LOL) and stuff them into some vents to complete an opjective. For futher Reading go to gamespot.com and punch in Willy (LOL) wonka.

This game is a very fun game, I borrowed it from a friend to play, I love it. You can explore the chocolate room, ride the great glass elevator, and see other rooms from the book. 2 times in this game, you can get stuck. But thanks to a little thing called internet, and another smaller thing called search engines, and a microscopic thing called a walkthrough, you can simply read how to beat the game, step by step. The game is very fun, but you can only visit 3 rooms with the elevator, and yet, an elevator door (if you find it) is found in all rooms of the game! The game is very fun nevertheless. I recommend buying it if you are a fan of the new movie.
Great Item. Your kdis will love it

Mike Teavee is so cute in the movie. He's hot. That's the whole reason why I LIKE the movie. And I got the game today as well. The voices are the real people who play them but Johnny Depp isn't Willy Wonka. That's why I like the game- Jordan Fry actually voices Mike Teavee.

This may never go down in history as a great game, but my 7 year old loves it. I was hesitant to buy this game with some not so great reviews, but I am glad I did. It is just the right mix of fun and challenge to keep him entertained, but not overwhelm him with difficult levels. He has managed to play this game through by himself for the most part with some occasional adult help. The game is not scary or violent or have a lot of complicated jumps and such. So it does not overwhelm young players. It has fun candy powers that my son really enjoys and it gives him a chance dwell in the fantasy.

This has to be the most aggrivating game my children and I have played in 7 years!!!! I'm sick of "children" games that children and some adults can't play!!!!!! The graphics and story make a wonderful game - but it stops there!!! Once you start playing you'll need to control yourself from throwing the controller across the room, anything else I could say wouldn't be very nice!
Really fun until the robot part.

I have read the book and watched the old movie so I decided to rent the game. At first it was really fun until you got to the robot part. These robots have an ingredient in them that stops a beem (which of course you have to stop the beem),well I wondered how do I get the ingredient into the beem?! I asked grandpa Joe he said to put the robots into the beem. There's only one BIG problem. YOU CAN'T GET A ROBOT INTO THE BEEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!believe me I tried!!!!!!! I then thought I know I'll use wiggle sweets (which luers enemies)and they didn't work worth a CRUD! I then told my mother "you can take this game back unless I change my mind(like in a million years). "Then I thought I Know I"ll use a cheat code, well the game just came out so there were only a few, which I couldn't use those anyway!! So if you really want to play this game I recomend renting it like I did(but after what I said I wouldn't blame you if you don't want to try it at all.)I took 1 star from fun and 2 stars from overall because of the robot part.
