Nothing Better in this Genre

I bought this game when it first came out for the PS2 and hated playing the campaign. But wow did the fun begin when I played online. I haven't stopped playing it(year and a half later). Over the past month I bought an X-box360 and this was the first game I bought. I will admit that online is difficult when you first start playing....but after awhile you start to get better and before you know it....BANG...your hooked. I can't say enough about this game and I have been dying to see the next version and will not hesitate to purchase it when it does release. I am also surprised by both the amount of people who haven't heard about it as well as the amount that have not played it online. It is a must buy if you like war games with lots of first person shooter and military action!!!

These games he really does love them. He enjoys going up in rank as well. He loves the challenge and shootiing the enemies. They sound so real and bloody as well. All I need now is the other game I ordered for him that he hasn't received yet.

Decent

If you're getting an online shooter for your kid, go with this. There's no real strategy needed in the multiplayer, and the community will be a lot better than say, SOCOM's on a little kid. The whole game is too easy. Too easy to get kills, too easy to die, too easy to fly helicopters, too easy to find your opponents. There is no stealth in this game. You have a giant red dot over your head to any enemy near you, and the same of them. This feature destroys any strategy that could've been involved. In an effort to balance the power of various troop kits, snipers were given tracer rounds which (combined with the red dot) guarantee their death as soon as they shoot a competent player. The game is also plagued by glitchers and team-killers (amazingly, the server doesn't kick teamkillers until a score of -30; even terrible players who misplace a massive artillery strike will only get to half that without intentionally killing teammates). Network errors preventing the creation of rooms or disconnecting players are not unheard of.

All in all, it's a decent game--but it has glaring flaws which seriously hinder gameplay. Get it for the kids, but seasoned gamers should go with the latest installment of SOCOM (especially if they value stealth).

Good game for online experience

I bought this game exclusively for playing online. The actual game experience is very good, however I rated the game overall at 4 stars because of network issues that continually pop up online. Online play is frequently interruped by "network errors" in addition it is not easy to set up a server to host online play.

That being said, if there are no errors, the game is great. Voice communication is clear, and the graphics are good. In addition there are may opportunities to play different characters. It is not simply a "shoot em" game. I love the opportunities to parachute, drive jeeps/tanks, fly helicopters, etc. In addition the playing venues are large with little risk of going "out of bounds".

Enjoy!

ok. two things. First is that its a much better game than the past battlefield games which are pointless and stupid. The reason its better is that this game has missions you must play in order to go on to the next mission. Its definetly a game of stragety. second thing is that its difficult to know what the controls are and manuvering(crouching, turning, moving, ect) is slow. Buy the game if you like stragety games and shooting games.

i havnt stoped playing online!

I started playiing this game with high expectations and it ultimatly met them. the campaign mode isnt my favorite but it is very good. the first few stages arent great, but as it progresses you get to play in a closer proximity of your enemies which i found to be more fun than standing on a building and sniping the whole time. in campaign mode you also have unlimited ammo.

the online is best part of this game. you can chose what type of soldier you can be with out weapon restrictions like there are in campaign mose. you can play capture the flag and other similar games. no unlimited amo online but there are alot of amo crates that will give you a restock through out the level.

this game is also realistic. one sniper shot above the waist will normally take you out. so dont expect to run thriugh enemy lines and survive. however, in campaign, you can die multiple times with out losing. you will lose 5000 points, but it will swap into another players body.

hot swap is a cool feature in this game. just press square and you will switch places with another unit. its good to use when your low on health. just hot swap with a player who has more health.

i think the bigest flaw is not having two player mode. i would really like to play against my friends instead of just switching of in 1player mode. another (very fun) flaw is how fast the shotgun realoads. you can fire your shotgun just as fast as your hand gun if not faster.

if you have internet for your ps2 then definetly get this game. if not, the campaign mode is almost as fun but isnt a selling point.

a bit let down...

I feel a bit let down by the game. I haven't played online or the PC version of the game but the PS2 comes off as a standard FPS game. The controls were the main problem. Other than helpful hints now and then there is no place for your control schematics. You cannot customize them either. (note to game designers: make sure you put a slot in the menu titled "Controls" and with a little diagram so I know how to use them) The vehicles are also difficult to use, no hints on how to fly the helicopter. Jumping, crouching and turning are also slow, not like the days of Unreal and Quake for making movement like heck. You also can't communicate with your other team members, at least in single player. Maybe when I get online it might be more fun.

Run and Shoot

There is no strategy to this game. I have not played past Battlefield titles so have no frame of reference but this game is strictly run around and shoot as much as you want. While it is totally fun to play that way at times, I would like to have some thought involved strategy.

THE BEST ONLINE GAME FOR PS2

First off i need to say that you cant judge this game by its campaign mode at all. Campaign mode is basically just a warmup training session for online and man is online play awesome. If you have high speed internet and a ps2 this game is a must have. Online play is very open ended and you can do whatever you want from carbombing enemies(<--fun as hell) to sniping and driving tanks/helicopters. The levels are well designed and very strategic, im still finding new tricks and secrets in each. 2 player split screen would be nice but overall still a very excellent game. BUY IT NOW AND GO ONLINE
