Well first off, I'm not a fan of fighting games, so the one star may be a bit biased, but from the fighting gamews i have played, I still feel this would merit only one or two stars. I feel a bit mislead, if you, like i did have the impression that this game has a decent amount of role playing elements then you're wrong. The only aspect of roleplaying thats really here is after each fight you get about 3-5 points to add to a series of about 10 different attributes. Their effects are noticible on thr gameplay, but barely so. The storyline is very slim consisting of about a 25-40 text "story" of what is about to happen witha voice-over as well. IE: "Keelya's father had many allies, on her quest for vengeance she sought out Tyros known for his simple sense of judgement, as is the custom in Barbaria a test of mettle was in order. They fought..." after this is goes to the fighting stage. The levels are pretty big for a fighting game, but dont expect the ability to go off exploring becuase you're prevented from running a screen distance away from the other fighter and the camer doesn't zoom out at all so you end up just just running in place on the edge of the screen until your opponent moves closer. The combo attacks and "rune" attacks aren't anything special and most of the fights end up being repetitive, with the two fighters taking turns in hitting eachother. If you're looking for a role playing game or a combo game with good roleplaying elements in it, don't buy this game. If you're looking for a fighting game, this one is sub-par I had a lot more fun with DOA2 and the Tekken games
A pretty good game.

I think that if you are a fan of the fighting genre then you should try Barbarian. While Soul Caliber or Mortal Kombat are hard with lots of keys to remember this is not so with Barbarian the game is really easy and some might find this a weakness. Now if you suck really bad then this game is highly recommended. It is probably the only way your sister can beat you. Heck someone who has never touched a controller can beat you. I really like the level designs and I think that the magic attacks are cool. The best however is that 8 people can be on the screen at once, 8! Even if you don't suck still at least rent Barbarian.

The only good part of this game was the graphics. After 1/2 hour of play, I completely lost interest. No replay value, and a waste of money to buy or rent. The other reviewers must work for the company that made this God-awful game.

"Barbarian" is a great, and fun, video game for the Sony PlayStation2. The fighting moves the characters have are really cool and the graphics rock! I highly recommend this video game to anyone.

Finally another good multiplayer role-playing game in the tradition of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. One interesting twist is that a player can take more than one character on an expedition. This feature allows for a great deal of variety in gameplay.

The only one thing I would ask for out of this game is powerups and weapons to pick up.When you are chosing you character, press R1 to change the appearance/costume.But,no you can't actually choose the appearance such as color, face and stuff, each character just has two different costumes/appearances.Oh,but you can pick up stuff to throw like boxes, stools, thugs(inferior opponents). Then you can use trees, clubs, poles, and un-lit torches for beating your opponent till he/she cries for his/her mommie!

I reminds me of this very amazing game Powerstone for Dreamcast. Barbarians have inherited all the best features of Powerstone. It's fun all the way! A very nice range of characters and gorgeous locations make it an adviceable game.
this game is a hoot
