Thoroughly addictive, with minor flaws

My wife and I both find this game completely addictive. We play on a 42" LCD that does a good job of up-converting (many TVs don't), and while the graphics and text are definitely not hi-def they're more than good enough. The storyline lets you take different tracks through, and consequences vary based on the decisions one makes - from the initial definition of the avatar on. The puzzles are challenging enough to make you think, easy enough - once you figure out the 'rules' - that you can do it as a relaxing mental exercise. But one with enough challenge to keep you involved.

There are sometimes problems with the control, where the system reads a minor twitch as a move, that can result in pretty bad consequences when the move you were trying to make goes wrong. But you know what? That's part of the game. You do that once, and you remember for a long time to be very careful how you move. Besides, the only consequence is that you may lose a particular battle and have to play it again, it's not like you were sent all the way back to the beginning of the game.

It is possible - in fact, probably even likely - to get access to a very difficult match when you don't yet have the points to succeed. This makes you have to come back and try again after doing some less difficult matches to build up your points, and probably helps to stay involved with the game.

Sometimes playing feels repetitive, and we take a break for a little while. But when we come back to it it's fresh again. My most advanced avatar is at level 42 right now - I recommend creating multiple different avatars so you can play it through in different ways.

It's not for finger-twitchers, gore-lovers, or probably even most devotees of FPSs. But if you like puzzle-solving in an interesting mythical world you'll probably enjoy this.

I was looking for a game that would be fun to play on the wii. I'm sure this is fine on a regular computer but there's too much point and click for the wii. Even my kids got bored! I was disappointed with the graphics, it's very still and the only animation is a moving map. Overall, a bit clunky.

The handheld smash comes to the Wii

Perhaps you've heard of Puzzle Quest? A unique blend of RPG and puzzle game elements, Puzzle Quest became a bit of a smash on handhelds not too long ago, and now it's made it's way to home consoles, including the Wii. For those who have never played it before, Puzzle Quest puts you in the shoes of a young warrior, and the usual RPG story and gameplay elements are pretty much applied afterwards as well. However, you don't engage in turn based or real time combat per se', but instead battle it out in a Bejeweled-style puzzle battle. What would normally get boring is spiced up with the injection of other RPG elements straight into the puzzle gameplay, making it all the more strategic, as well as addictive. What hurts Puzzle Quest, particularly the Wii version, is what others have complained about thus far as well: the presentation is very cramped. Reading text is incredibly difficult as the font size is quite small to say the least, which can be quite a detraction from the gameplay experience. It should also be noted that the controls for the Wii version are nothing to write home about either. Otherwise, for veterans of Puzzle Quest, you'll find that nothing else has changed, but there isn't anything new either. Online play would have been more than welcome, but there is none to be found, and the higher price for the Wii version of the game with nothing extra added to the package is disappointing as well. Those flaws aside, Puzzle Quest for the Wii is still worth checking out for RPG and/or puzzle fans looking for something a little different.

I love this game

I dont know why this game is getting such bad reviews, me and my husband LOVE it. The controls are not bad as others have said; you just have to be careful when you point the wii remote as it should be. As for the game cheating, LOL I think all games cheat some when I'm losing but what fun would a game be if you won every battle or finished the game in 3 hours. Then people would be screaming it was too easy and where would the challenge be. The only thing wrong with this game is it keeps me up too late doing 'just one more quest'. Out of all our wii games, and yes we have lots, this is one of our favorites and the replay value is awesome. No two battles are the same, how many other games can say that.

I'm guilty of playing with this many hours a day!

It's a Puzzle game with a touch of roleplaying in it. I didn't know it was that kind of game when I purchased it on Amazon since it was on sale. I bought almost every game that was on sale at Amazon for the Wii. When I open it, start playing with it and see what happens, I was surprised that it was not just a puzzle game. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Both my friend and I are addicted to this game on the Wii AND on the DS.

It's okay.

This game does nothing but cheat. The game consistently strings multiple turns for itself, bashing in your hitpoints like a barbarian at the gates of... some place they ransacked, I dunno. I got up, made a sandwich, came back, and it still wasn't my turn.

Oh, wait, let me explain this game for you. It's "Bejeweled." With magic. You cast a spell and ding the enemy and then it casts a hundred spells and you die. And then you repeat. And sometimes you're unfortunate enough to win and continue the horrible plot, which only forces you to play more matching games against the computer.

It's so hood.

If you're really in the mood for a good puzzle game, get something else. I highly recommend "Guess Who."

I hve no idea what all the negative reviews are about! I got this game and have been hooked since. It's full screen on a 56" HDTV, the graphics are perfect, I can read the words just fine. I'm already addicted and I LOVE IT!

worst game ever

OMG! What a horrible game! I wish Amazon would allow a score of 0. Where to start? First the graphics just plain suck. Very difficult to read. Controllers, sucky again. The game does not use the Wii remote properly, difficult to move around the game and difficult to make moves in the short games. Why bother making a game for the Wii if you don't take advantage of the technology the system has to offer. Music, thankfully it can be turned off! Horrible port waste of money. I feel very ripped off and am taking the game to a used game store after owning it for less than 24 hours. Wish I would have read the reviews here and not been attracted to it at Best Buy.

Don't get for Wii unless TV is HUGE

This game is pretty fun.. It's very similar to Bejeweled but with a little twist. The only issue is that if you get this game for Wii, the text on a majority of the screens is physically impossible to read. I'm not sure how it works on other systems. I had a 27" TV and could NOT read the words. I recently upgraded to a 50" flat screen and it's still not the easiest read in the world, but it's legible now. If you like Bejeweled with a plot, this game is for you.

This game is a lot of fun to play. It's an easy game to pick up on. My only issue with it is the graphics. The game is on the Wii, so I didn't expect too much out of it, but there is a fair amount of reading in the game and the words are hard to make out. My TV is a 32" High definition Flat screen and the words can be fuzzy, almost to the point of being unreadable.
