Team17's long running and hilarious Worms franchise has developed quite a cult following in Europe and it is easy to see why. The basic premise of the game is very simple. You control a team of cute little worms in a variety of different and wacky environments as you basically try to blast the hell out of the other worm team. First team to lose all their worms loses the match. Every single bit of the dozens of 2D maps included with the game is destructible and can be used to your advantage. A personal favorite of mine is a map titled "Jail Break", where one team gets a fortress and hides in it as the other team tries to "smoke them out" with all sorts of wacky weapons. "Ahoy Matey" is another great map. In this map two pirate ships face each other and the worms try to board the enemy ship and duke it out for supremacy. The graphics are basic 2D here, nothing fancy at all, and the animations are colorful and appealing, if rather limited.
The game itself is very simple to learn but hard to master. You control the worms with your keyboard's directional buttons and you jump with the "enter" and "backspace" keys. Hotkeys and the mouse are used for selecting weapons and firing is simple as judging the trajectory of your missile based on the wind, and holding down the fire key for an appropriate length of time to set your power. The wind is a very clever twist, and it is visible in the background thanks to the colorful animations. It also offers many strategic possibilities. The missiles can bend and curve, and get thrown about by the wind. Also, a bazooka shot may curve right back at you if you fire into head-wind! Clean simple menus make navigation easy and there is a mind-boggling array of customizability options for your worms. You can customize your team flag, team theme tune, arsenal, and voices.
The worms' voices are hilarious and you can select over 40 different voice types such as Redneck, British, Russian and Cyber-Worm for your team to add a bit of ethnic spice! The high pitched squeaks along with the stereotypical accents make for great fun. Almost every action is met by a comic quip in reply. Here's a good example: One redneck worm squeaked "Yes ma?" as I selected him but mournfully cried "Dangit!" moments later as he was blown out to see by a well placed air strike courtesy of "Bacon", a member of the aptly named opposing team, "The Breakfasts". Brilliant...
This game is meant to be taken light-heartedly in every sense. The crazy people at Team17 and their quirky humor hit their mark again. Weapons include a Sheep that blows up 5 seconds after launching, an old lady that spells doom for anyone near her, a poisonous skunk and a giant metal donkey that absolutely devastates anything that it is dropped over.
Multiplay is where the game really shines. Log on to Wormnet for some really frantic online action or get a couple of buddies on the same computer and take turns blowing each other to bits in the always fun HotSeat. LAN is perhaps the most accessible, and not to mention fun mode. Expect some great moments and a bundle of laughs after a night of Wormage! And surprisingly, the tactics you must devise to win are quite elaborate, and ingenious, especially when you are down to your last worm. There's a good blend of turn-based strategy and no-holds barred action.
There are downsides however. For example, there are not as many weapons present as you would expect. The really fun ones are very rare to find on the maps as the crates that hold them are scattered in hard to reach places, which is a bit of a let-down. There is an Armageddon mode that enables the use of all-weapons though, if you want a really explosive game. This mode takes some fun out of the whole idea of strategy, though.
Another bad thing is that this edition is essentially a rehash of "Worms Armageddon" with a multiplayer online option tossed in. Shame on Team17 and their evil commercialization! Owners of Armageddon might want to pass this one up, as they will not find anything drastically different other than a new, albeit robust online service. The single player AI can be very stupid sometimes, and once you get a few hours under your belt anything under a "4 Difficulty" may prove to be too easy. There is not much in the way of single-player options offered. "World Party" was clearly designed to be a multiplayer game, and it is very much the quintessential party game, and very child-friendly to boot. Apart from the mildly amusing explosions there is nothing in the way of graphic violence or profanity included.
The bottom line is, if you own "Worms Armageddon" then you might want to pass this one up, but if you're a Worms-virgin then you should definitely consider picking this game up and getting some friends over for some worm smackin' action!
Another great worms title

Although I have not actually played Worms: World Party, I have a pretty good idea of what is involved. Having played the thoroughly enjoying game Worms: Armageddon, I feel that this game will be even better, for in this series of games, each time the next game in the series comes out, it is always even more enjoyable. In addition, I must say that the major highlight of this game is the multiplayer mode. There is fierce competition whenever a multiplayer game is going on like no other game I have ever seen. Plus, unlike most games with weapons, Worms has no blood, plus to ad in some fun ,there are fantasy weapons such as 'Super Sheeps' that you direct through the air towards your opponent(s) The creators of this game must have an ingenious gaming mind. With all this said, I will close by saying that the Worms series is the best series and best multiplayer game so far in the short history of computer game developement. Thank you.
Great if this is your only "Worms"

I bought this game after playing the free Worms Armageddon Demo. I really enjoy the game and it runs great over our mutliplayer network, although I noticed that there was not much of a difference between this version and the earlier "Worms Armageddon" version. That being said, I would strongly recommend this game only if you do NOT have any previous versions of the Worms collection.

Many of you reviewers have obviously had trouble installing your game but my copy just had no trouble at all! I inserted the disk, it began to spin and that screen came up, i selected install and went thorough all that stuff yes put a shortcut blah blah blah and the game was fine! It ran just as good as any other game i have! But about the actual game, it is incredible. You can crete computer controlled teams such as mine which i named Punching Bags and wage wars against them with your own made teams. Overall its a great game for PC but dont buy i on GBA. Not that its bad on GBA but i still need to get my own copy!
Hahahahahaha.

Worms World Party is a very entertaining strategy game for nearly any audience. Both young players and mature ones will find some fun in this title. Gameplay is simple and yet provides for many variations in strategy. Games with other players can really be a great time as each team's worms try to blow up one another. The Wormpot mode selection provides for a lot of interesting scenarios as well. There is a random map generator as well as a terrain editor so you will never play the same map twice. Weapons are varied, interesting, and well-designed. This is a very good game but not an excellent one. You should still find a lot of fun in it, though, so I would recommend to you as a worthwhile purchase.
Finnaly a good game I could play with others!

I had this game for about 2 years, and I thought "Maby I should right I reviw about this game", and here Im righting it.
Really I dont like playing with the computer cause its boring, so uselly I dont play against the computer.
I have Windows 98, Pentium 3, and it runs great.(well not realy anymore since I scratched very badly).
Well I love playing this game with my freinds, and they love playing it too.
I always beat them.
The best thing in this game is the wepons like, Supersheep, Armagedon, Sheepstrike, Donky, and more.
WWP, is defently better then the first one.
Some people say its the same, and im going to say they are right exept there is more weapons, levels, and options.
This is what you can do in Worms World Party: You can create youre own level, make unlimited weapons (when playing wih friends), make youre own team.
Well the game is kind of the same as the first one, but I like Worms World Party more then the first one. :-)
I don't got worms.

I am a BIG fan of Worms II. So, I bought Worms: World Party to play with friends on our LAN, but I could not get the game to work. Figuring the CD was defective I bought a second CD, and encured the same errors.
I tried the game on two different platforms, Windows ME and Windows 98, but with no positive results.
When I tried to troubleshoot, and the website was terribly slow and not very helpful, their bulletin board wouldn't post the messages I'd try to write. And they didn't have an 800 number at customer support. Overall I had a very bad experiance with the game. I'm sure the game is fantastic, if you get the chance to play it.
So, if you get it to work great, but if you have tech problems, it's probably just best to return the CD before your time runs out.
-- Joseph Hawkins (-2 stars for bad customer support)
*PS the error occurred when the game created ~D*.tmp
What's the difference?!

Why did it take them a year after the original release date to release it if it is so much similar to Worms Armaggedon. All those new features they promised to add barely make a difference. If you already own WA or W2, it's not worth it to buy WWP.
