Hangs up on XP and Vista

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 1 / 1

This game appears to have several bugs that cause it to hang up. I tried installing it on two different PCs; one with XP PRO and another brand new machine with VISTA. In both cases the game would install and play but then you could not exit the game. I've subsequently read about this same problem in other web reviews of the software. You need to terminate the game using the Windows Task Manager. It also does not remember your "avatar" when you re-launch the game. I tried to uninstall and re-install several times and got the same problems.

As a test I uninstalled this CD version and downloaded the game from the Sony (Wheel of Fortune) game website. The downloaded version behaved the same way.

It's too bad because it is a fun game. I am returning this game and would not recommend it.

Don't Buy This!

I am so sorry I purchased this game! Although it boasts that is has 2,000 puzzles, it continually starts again at the beginning of the game each time you load it. It starts with *the same* puzzles each time you start the game. In addition, the "high score" board doesn't reflect any scores. And to top it all off, the only way I can exit out of the program is to shut down my computer! At first I thought I had a bad copy, but when I went to Encore's "technical support" page I was told they are aware of the problem but there is no fix available yet. This was in December 2007, 7 months ago! No fix yet? Nevertheless, they continue to sell this product. I am sooooo incredibly frustrated, and feel like I threw my money away.

Only a 1-player game...

I purchased this for my son and I to play, but you can only play a one-player game. There is no option for a 2nd or 3rd player. If I had known this, I would not have purchased this version.

Other than that, it's fine.

Wheel of fortune

We found this version of WoF didn't have the correct drivers as part of its installation and needed some Micromedai Flashman 3 drivers. In our particular case we had to organise another graphics card to cope with what was required. Not very IT friendly.

Spin the Wheel!

"Wheel of Fortune" is not a bad first effort. In fact, it's pretty impressive looking. The graphics are great, especially the ever-changing backdrops you get for each game you play. Sometimes you play in the desert, or you'll play in a casino. And having Vanna White as your hostess with the mostess isn't bad, either.

I do have some problems with this game, however. The first problem is the absence of Pat Sajak. Their chemistry is what makes the show click, and it is kind of missed here. Vanna White does great in this role all by herself, but her constant vigilance does get a little monotonous. The other problem with this game, a VERY annoying problem, are the computer players you have the option of challenging. Oh, man, do the creators of these games need to give these opponents more personality input. I don't know how many more times I can stand to hear one of my opponents groan when they go bankrupt or say things like, "I'll take an E . . . as in elocution!" Elocution?! Who do you know who uses that word?!

But these are the only detractors from the game. Despite being somewhat dim-witted personality wise, your computer opponents are pretty smart, and they will beat you if you aren't careful. And there are plenty of puzzles and categories to keep you hooked.

All in all, not a bad game. I like it, but I don't like the personality of the computer opponents. I haven't played the second edition of "Wheel of Fortune" so I can only pray that this was improved on.

LOTS OF FUN PUZZLES,REALISTIC STUDIO AND SOUND EFFECTS,BUT WHERE'S PAT SAJAK AND THE BONUS ROUND? VANNA WHITE HOSTS THE WHOLE GAME INSTEAD. BASICALLY,ALL YOU CAN DO IS SOLVE PUZZLES,AND YOU GO ON THE LEADER BOARD,BUT WHAT? NO BONUS ROUND WHERE YOU CAN WIN A CAR OR $25,000? WELL,STILL A FUN GAME.

It was okay. You get to play a normal game,a solo,or a tourtment.I played normal against two computer players.I like the fact that Vanna White was in the game.Plus I liked the comments from the computer players.Yet like the other reveiwer said it would have been better if it had Pat Sajak.Yet It's fun if your stuck in the house on a rainy day.

Fun little game

I rarely watch the TV show, but I consider the CD-ROM game "Wheel of Fortune" to be a fun program. It's easy to install and setup. The rules are easy enough, and the game itself is mentally challenging in a simple sort of way. The graphics are good, and you can turn off the background videos and sounds if you like. For $[money], this is a good bargain.

4 star fun for the whole family

Like, an reviewer, I also rarely watch the tv sereis and yet I know that Pat Sajack does most of the work that Vanna White does on this computer game. And with this game you don't have to sit back and watch the game, you can get into the game if you don't have time to get on the game show. When the game beings, a seeting will come up like on road, or beach, or in Hawaii, but you can always change the setting if you want. But before you begin playing the game, you have to tell it a coouple of things, first you have to tell the computer, if you want to play a normal game, a solo game, a tournament game, or if you want to see the high scores. Then, you you have to tell the computer how long you want the game to be before the speed up round, if you want either a 15 minute game or a 20 minute game, and if you don't want to play a timed game, you don't have to, you can play a 3, 4, or 5 round games. You also have to tell the computer how many player(s) are playing, and then enter the name(s) of the player(s), then after all that you can begin the game. And Vanna will reveal a cateorgy and then the puzzle with either a few lines or many lines. And you can get pizes, like a suprise and prize, that is allready revealed to you if you care to know, but you can only get them if you solve the puzzle, and if you land on a bankrupt, you will then lose your puzzle(s). The things, that I don' like about the game is when you land on a bankrupt or lose a turn, or if you land on .... After the end of each round Vanna will reveal how many money does all the players have in thier bank.

It works for me!

Though I prefer Merv Griffin's other game show, "Jeopardy", "Wheel of Fortune" does have its merits and this home version does the latter justice. With Vanna White showing that she could possibly do more than just turn letters as the "hostess," replacing Pat Sajak, the CD-game is so fast-paced and similar to the nighttime show that it is most enjoyable. All the familiar categories are there ("Same Name," "Places," "Things," Before & After", "Events," and People, among others).

The game is easy to load, play, and even holds the attention of a non-reading four-year-old. The colorful graphics and simulated sounds captivated my nephew as he and I played a round yesterday.

I'm sure that there are other, and more advanced, versions out there but for my money, I'll stick with this one.
