first they added a new race, Creon. this race rocks, it has everything to a metal dragon, to electric troopers. then they added a bunch of really cool levels. not to mention the single player ones and the cool story to go along with it. i would have to recoment this one. well worth it.
Highly recommended for fantasy and strategy gamers.

The Great War has ended and the recovery of Darien has begun. Yet before the fragile peace fully returns a startling discover is made in the snowy North Country. N new land and a new civilization have been found and offer the folk of Darien a new threat. The Creonites (taking a forbidding view of magical arts) threaten to throw Darien into a state of chaos and destroy its very existence. The Iron Plague is the newest extension of the Total Annihilation: Kingdoms gaming universe and features an unprecedented fifth race with new units from the undiscovered land of Creon; 25 new units including mechanical dragons, rudimentary tanks, ships and other inventions of war; 25 new maps (all new terrain from the uncharted land of Creon); 3D environments of caves, mountains, forests, and vast oceans; and much more. The Iron Plague is a highly recommended for real-time fantasy and strategy game enthusiasts.

i don't know where people get this about this game being bad. i tested it all from day one(that it was made that is), i have worked for the co. for years to, and never have i seen such a lousy report like the loue a couple of notes ahead of me. this game is great! i spend hours on end just playing the game. i mean come on, the new units for the old clans like the mer warrior (verurna) and the fallen angel (taros)just think of all the mayham. and to top it off you have to look out for those crazy creons (that stuipedley send weaklings to try to kill me, not the i don't send about a 100 weaklings to fight, thought). they even make there a less weakness to each other like how there was only a kraken for the navy of thersa, but now there are the giant baracunas and who nows what else. if you want a gift for X-mas or your birthday (like with me) i would get in, plain and simple!

If you like the original Kingdoms, I highly recommend getting the Iron Plagues expansion pack. Play online at GameSpy. This game is comparable to Starcraft with a Medievil twist. Lots of dragons, Monarchs, Knights. A big, giant, real time strategy chess game! Numerous sites offer third party maps, game enhancments and even new races. Lots of possibilites with this game and the fan base is very deep.
The expansion pack is very good.

This expansion pack probably made TA: Kingdoms better. This expansion pack has a better story and a new faction that is pretty cool. With alot of new maps, units, scenarios, and a free on-line game mission, this is a great deal. The only problem is this is still a slower paced game in the line of the Command & Conquer series. A shame this game had to follow in the foot steps of the original TA as TA was very fast paced game. If you already have TA: Kingdoms, get this expansion pack and you won't be disappointed, especially the last battle.
It's called "Expansion" not "New Game"

This was a really good sequel to the original TA Kingdoms. They took a good game and expanded on its playability to make something that was really fun even better (New units, new tribe, new maps, continued storyline, etc etc). ...basically if you liked the original you MUST like the expansion because "The Iron Plague" is nothing more than "Kingdoms" biggie sized!
Total Annihilation Kingdoms is the best game in the world

If the game the expansion is based on is garbage (and TA: Kingdoms is) why should I have to buy an expansion to make it a good game? And what guarantee would I have that it would become a good game? A friend of mine got this against my advice (I let him have the original).
1. The game is still overly slow and clunky even on a PIII 500mhz machine. 2. The AI cheats to make units far faster than you can. 3. The unit AI stinks. They will not counter attack despite the fact that the unit RIGHT NEXT TO THEM is getting attacked. Their pathing is equally bad. 4. Unit variety is unimaginative. 5. Story lines are boring.
Making an expansion to make garbage better still leaves you with garbage.
Cavedog has thrown real-time strategy back 3 years.
Sorely disappointed

I am still playing total annihilation the original to this day. And I was very excited when I heard that Cavedog was making another RTS. And the excitement stayed, right up until I purchased and played the game. Micromanagement was essential if you didn't want your line of troops to get destroyed while on the move, they refused to defend themselves and took incredibly long routes to get to their destination if not watched the entire time. I played it some, but quickly got tired of it. When the expansion came out, I didn't want it, certainly not worth even the piddling ... they were asking. I broke down and picked it up just recently, and was amazed at how unbalanced the creon were. Your base defense the prism tower massacres anything that comes near your base, and the ironclad ships at your disposal can bury an entire veruna navy. This is I believe the only game I ever threw in the trash.
