Pretty good....

It is my fave ds raceing game now. The graphics are pretty good, and I LOVE raceing. Also you get to unlock more kinds of cars as you get further on in the grand prixes. Also you can choose if you want a manual or an automatic. You can choose your car color too. There are many different hues to choose from. The only thing wrong is there is not much use of the stylus. Unless you put it on stylus mode, which is hard for me and my sibs agree. Otherwise great game, it keeps you entertained, and i hope to someday get wi-fi and race against other players!

I'd rather be playing Ridge Racer R4

I had high hopes for this game, and had fun for the first 6 races. Then it let me down, all the control options suck, and you can't see ahead on the track to anticipate turns at all. I'm selling this and going back to Ridge Racer R4 for the original playstation, this game NEEDS a good analog stick to play properly.

Horrible racer

Racing fans, get a PSP. Sure, you won't get all the good games like Brain Age, but man, racing games on the system are just horrible compared to PSP. With no analog stick, good graphics, or enough memory, the DS just does not do racing games well. PSP proves that racing games finally can be playabl on a handheld. WIth the exception of Racing Gears Advance, no racing game in the gameboy lineup in general didn't give much racing fans to shout about.

HEre's a great example on why racing games quickyl stopped for DS (mostly). Diddy Kong Racing was a good racing game, and that might be good for DS, but seriously, unlike certain games, racing games lot's of the time cant' exactly stand the test of time as well as classics like The Legend Of Zelda. Some games are still legends in their own right, but games like Grand Turismo, don't think so. Really, who's playing the first one. As systems get better, so does the racing game genre. The point is, why play this when you can get so many higher quiality racing games on the PSP. Alas, it dosen't make sense eithesr why people would do. Like I said before, some racing games never get old, but some just are forgottten as the newer, better, and more appealing versions of the once awesome racer appears, eclipsing that older version. This game suffers from that, but also, the DS itself truely hinders the game.

First off, the graphcis are ugly. Generic forests, deserts, and cities are all your gonna see in this racer. The cars aren't good either, they are extremely blocky and ugly as well. PSP version gives better graphics. Also, don't try to sick the cliched "It's the gameplay that matters" up my nose, becasuse it's cliched. But also, because with racing games, graphics really help the game have excitment. Let's put it this way: woudl you rather race through a pixelated, stark desert? Or a lush, recreation of the las vegas strip, with shortcuts that let's you tear through the casino;s beautiful interiors, and in it's fully furnished detailed gloried? Yeah, I would pick the latter too. Yeah, gameplay is more important, but graphics can enchance that gameplay, and with great graphcis, a game can be twice as more fun an exciting. In short, everything matters, don't try to just narrow yourself on just gameplay. Galatica is fun, but it sure does reach out and grab you. Ugly games have more of a hill to climb to impress us if it looks good. DOn't though, relie just on that (look at what happened to games like Red Steel and Fantavision).

Graphics suck, but the gaemplay sucks too. IT's tough to control, and without an analog stick, the game is too damn hard to control. Unless your a true hardcore gamer (i.e. the gamer that has no life because he or she decitaed themeselves to gaming), the game just is not worth to learn, especially when you could be playing Ridge Racer for PSP, which is easy to control, looks good, and has a great arsenal of unlockables. IT's no fun to unlock anything in this game, because nothing really seems rewarding. The touch screen is useless here, touch screen steering sucks (it's not much better with the D-pad either. Ridge Racer needs an analog stick), and I really don't care about the time of my laps when I am trying to get into a good palce because I lost control of my car and bumped into one too many walls. The steering wheel illustation is pretty lame too. You don't need that. I suppose that map is pretty cool, but it dosen't really help you. It's just a tiny map that just shows the place the person is in, and it's certainly not helpful. So Ridge Racer falis in that department, so their you go for those who were complaing about how I ranted about the graphics.

Everythinng else, Ridge Racer DS fails. The sound is pretty annoying, it sounds like a bunch of annoying bleeps and bloops, and it's annoying. The sound is mediocre, as it does not add much effect. And the girl on the cover is just stupid. Where's Reiko? No, she is NOT hot, but damn, she's a mascot. Can you imagine what it would be like if things did not have a mascot. It stings. It's like replacing Lucky The Leprechaun with Benjamin Franklin. This and graphics are all presentation, but that really counts too. Ever read an essay that had the info, but was messy, badly spelled, and sounded like a foreign exchange student. Sure changed your mind about the essay huh?

Racing fans, stick with the PSP racing games because those games deliver. DS racing games certainly do not.
