Excellent Game

This is the first Grand Theft Auto title I've played since the original came out several years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed the original, so when my fiance got this version for his birthday I stole it and started playing it myself. :D The first several missions are great - they're easy enough to beat without a lot of trouble, while giving you time to get used to the controls. The storyline is a lot of fun, the graphics are really well done, everything is fun! My only complaint is that some of the missions are extremely hard for me, as I am not used to playing games like this. I have been stuck on this one RC helicopter mission for weeks now! I wish they had a built in cheat to stop the mission timer, because I am fed up with that mission and just want to get it over with. I can't complain too much about that, it's just my crappy game skillz. ;) I give this game 5 stars, because the bottom line for all games is that they need to be FUN - and this one definitely is!

Classic

One of the best games Ive played to date, probably my favorite out of the GTA series. GTA3 is a close second but besides having a bigger map I thought everything else in Vice City was better - the 80s atmosphere, music, missions and voice acting (especially Ray Liotta as Tommy Vercetti). The amount of freedom allowed in the game is great - you can focus on the main storyline, cruise around, do the side missions or just wreak havoc in general. Although later titles like San Andreas naturally added improved features to the gameplay, I found it boring and stopped playing halfway through. Vice City is my personal favorite because its a city you want to explore, the characters and storyline are more interesting and it just has a better feel to it.

Run people down to the dulcet sounds of Mr. Mister.

For any gamer that grew up in the 80s watching Miami Vice this game is a complete hoot. Just about every 80s hit I can remember is contained in the soundtrack. Sometimes I drive around not wanting to exit the car because I can't wait to hear what other songs Rockstar was able to license.

And this game is MUCH funnier than the very dark GTA III. For one thing your character talks now--the silent thug you played in the first gave me the creeps. And they addressed the biggest headache of the first game: getting back to where you left off when you failed a mission. Now when you're busted or die a taxi conveniently appears to take you back to where you left off. Of course you can ignore the taxi and do it the old fashioned way. There's no in-game save so you'll still have to repeat missions, but the taxi cuts down the frustration factor by about 30% by effectively teleporting you to the salient location.

The one gripe I have is the controls for the helicopter. Why force the player to use a different set of keys? It's a pain. But this is a minor gripe compared to the bonus addition of flight the game offers. Overall the game is just a big bucket of (notably adult) fun. Other game companies and the movie industry should take notes from Rockstar on how to do a sequel right.

BEST GAME, EVER!

Senseless violence, stealing cars, blowing off people's heads with a sniper rifle, what else could a young boy want?

It's even fun for total dorks like me!

I'm not a big fan of shoot-em-up type games, but after reading some reviews for GTA:VC, I studied it a bit further. After hearing about the amazing graphics and open-ended play, I decided to take a chance and lay down my money. Only twenty bucks considering this game's been out for some time. It was well worth it.

Firstly, yes, the graphics are great. I wouldn't say spectacular, but very good. The scale of the world of Vice City, though, IS truly amazing. There's virtually no where you can't go, and the sheer size of the city itself is daunting. The open-endedness of the game is what really turned me on. I could clobber bums (...) for some extra pocket money, or steal myself a cab to raise some dough. I've tried a few of the missions and rampages, but will obviously need some more practice with weapons before completing them. I look forward to using my clout on the street to advance through the missions.

Coming from someone who's idea of a fun computer game is anything "Sim"-related or with the word "Tycoon" in the title, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is indeed refreshing, despite the bloody mess.

Not that this sets me apart from too many other gamers, but I've been playing video games like the lifeless geek that I am since getting hooked on "Pong" somewhere around 1976. GTA:VC is probably one of the top five games I've even played since that time. There are an endless amount of missions and side missions to do, and, unlike the vast majority of games out there nowwadys, the voice-overs are top-notch (most certainly because real actors are used, from Ray Liotta, to Luis Guzman, Dennis Hopper, and, of course, Jenna Jamieson.) The challenges range from done-in-one-try to those that need to be performed multiple times, but I never found myself too frustrated with repepition (and, in case you do, you always have a dozen other missions to move onto in the meantime). There are countless (video) square miles to explore, and shooting indiscriminatetly (say, at police), will make you (appropriately) pay. Also, being a product of the 80's (graduated high school 1989, so I figure that makes me qualify, fer shur...ok, that was more early 80's...whatever), another cool thing about the game is that it immerses you in the best of the Miami-Vice 80's culture (the black guy is actually the guy who played Tubbs!), when it was the music, style, and dress was a whole different scene than the Matrix-conforming 90's and the idiotic "thug"/"gangsta" criminal-emulating joke of the new mellenium (you don't see any white suburbinites in this game talking about being "yo,street,yo", etc., after their soccer moms drop them off at the local mall. And if you think you might spot them anyway, you can run them over for good measure)
Overall, one of the best games ever, and a big disappointment to have completed.

Awesome!

This game is head and shoulders above the previous GTA's. While the following versions have surpassed it, it will still remain a classic GTA.

I've played the PS2 version, and the concept of gameplay is eatraordinary! What most games lack is the expansive, open-edned gameplay that Vice City has to offer. It's great that players aren't restricted to play only the missions... I think that driving and stunts are one of the most exhilerating aspects of the game. When it comes to the police AI being smarter, it has its pros and cons; it's great that you don't see the police acting senseless (GTA2 players will know what I speak of), but at the same time I hate it when they shoot out my back tires or use spike strips. Either way, the game is non-stop fun! I would love to see multiplayer LAN support be implemented in the future (since serial might be KINDA slow for this graphics-intensive of a game)!

They've done it again!

Vice City is bascially GTA 3 done right. The story and cutscenes are superb. The graphics are excellent and so is the level of detail. But that's not all!

Vicy City again takes the gameplay to the next level. Now you can go into buildings (try the Police HQ!). There are now unmarked police cars and the SWAT team can descend from helicopters. The cops also throw spike strips. You have about 2-3 times more different weapons. You can shoot at people who are inside vehicles.

The best thing, however is that you can ride motorcycles! Needless to say, that will be the source of some insane getaways, hard crashes, and cool drive-by shootings.
