I bought this game the day it came out and have really enjoyed playing it. The graphics are great and the resident ghosts are in true Disney style. Each different room of the mansion has excellent details down to little mice running on the floor. I would like to have seen more secret areas with hidden treasures but I did find myself getting a little spooked when playing alone late at night (and I'm over 30). I would probably not recommend this game for children under 9 (P.S. For you parents out there this game is not bloody). Could be a little spooky.

Forget about the upcoming movie, this game is just in time for my favorite holiday - Halloween. I got this PS2 game about a week ago and have been doing a couple of rooms a day after getting off from work and before going to bed. I even started over from the beginning after wasting too much life on the billiards table (pay attention to the hints!!!) and getting thrashed in the basement of the mausoleum. I finished up earlier today and to my surprise, I was rewarded with an unexpected pair of cheat codes (weapon upgrade and invulnerability) while on the Normal difficulty setting. Well, seeing as how much I enjoyed it the first time (and with the promise of more codes if I finish on the Nightmare difficulty setting), I entered the Mansion once again. With beautiful graphics, challenging puzzles, good enemy AI, and glimpses of scenes from the real Haunted Mansion, this game is a must have for fright fans in general and HM fanatics in particular. Except for the setting, this game almost reminds me of Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES/Konami/1993). One last thought about the upcoming movie - a free ticket for it was enclosed with the game - Eddie Murphy or not, see it at your own risk. Just don't miss this game.
worth the wait!

I saw this game at Disneyland. It was a lot of fun, but I didn't own a gaming system -- so I went and bought one and waited for the game to come out. I purchased the game on the first day, and it has been worth the wait -- as well as worth the purchase of the gaming system!
Zeke walks through the Haunted Mansion, collecting spirits in each room. The puzzles in the room vary; some are more logical, some are more manipulations. Having a variety is great, because my 14 year old son and I have different strengths, and we can take turns being "the best"!
My favorites in this game: the way Zeke walks (he's frightened!), the high creativity of the puzzles (especially in the conservatory and the maid's room), and the really fun graphics. My least favorite: Madame Leota's voice!
I strongly recommend this game for teens and adults.

I'll admit, most of you are probably wondering.."Why waste my time on a game based on a Disney Attraction/Movie? Most licenses like that end up not worth it." Well, I'm here to tell you that this game is an enjoyable romp that you nor your kids will want to miss. You navigate through the Haunted Mansion with game environments inspired by the movie and the ride, fight monsters of all sorts(if Spiders give you the willies, this one has it in spades), solve puzzles to uncover hidden clues- passageways and secrets, as well as release 999 trapped spirits. Kind of a mix between Ghostbusters, House, The Addams Family and Casper. Sure, it's on the fairly easy side for those weened on games of this sort but one not to be missed. Why?, you may ask. Well, it's a fun game that is challenging, at times, and will keep you playing til the end. Besides, it's game that the whole family can enjoy(although one player gets to play at a time).
As far as any gripes are concerned with the game, there are very few but need to be addressed just the same(for those considering a purchase) such as: spotty control(at times, it's hard to control you character. Especially during platform moments), the camera movement(it gets a lil whacky, at times. Course, I know of no game with a perfect camera), and the fact that things can get confusing. Yet, overall, none of these things take away from a great game. The things are, actually, minute.
At any rate, like I said before, this game is an enjoyable romp that you nor your kids will want to miss. One game I highly recommend to all.
Better than I've expected.

Okay, the first thing you should do is to forget whatever the plot line is in the movie ofwhich this game is based on. Why? The only thing that actually connect the movie to this game is Madame Leota (the fortune teller head in the magic bowl), spiders (lots of spiders), the ghosts, the animated heads, and of course the haunted mansion itself.
You won't be finding Eddie Murphy's character and his family in this game. Instead, you'd be controlling a character named Zeke Hollowayl, a poor lad who was mislead by a vacancy advertisement in the papers looking for a Assistant Caretaker for the mansion. Yes, he has been had.
This game is all about solving puzzles without succumbing to the movie it is base of. In fact, I found it much more entertaining than the movie itself ^_^" There are friendly ghosts and bad ghosts in this game and you be praying not to run into any of the bad ones, but of course you have to, right? Spiders in this game are also your foe but nasty to shoot at. The Lock-on button just won't lock on right for me half of the time, and got myself bitten in almost every time I ran on them.
The graphics are amazing. The plots and assignments are mostly easy though it uses much of problem solving and control taping skills. It is enjoyable by any age - though kids could be scared by some of the scenes. The length of game play can last up to 23 hrs or more, depend on your skills.
Pretty Cool

This game was pretty neat when i rented it. If you like to go and find things and solve puzzles this game is just for you. I thought it was pretty easy because if you die, it just regenerates you back to your full form and you play on right at the spot where you died. Thats pretty cool because you dont have to do the whole level over again. There are some levels i got confused with, but eventually i got how to work it out. I think anyone who liked the lord of the rings: the fellowship game or harry potter would like this.
Fun Game!

This is a real fun game. My first grader loves it, too. The only thing bad about this game is that it is very short. We finished the game in only 3 days on normal mode, but it was still worth it.
A MUST-BUY for kids!

I don't know why all the other reviewers seem to think this game is easy! I thought it was soooo hard! I could never figure out the puzzles very quickly, and if you miss the hint at the very beginning of a room, you're totally out of luck! And, it's definitely too scary for little kids! The screaming lady ghost creeped me out! The knights are impossible to beat, too! Also, it made me sort of sea-sick...the camera jolts all around and it's always dark. I wouldn't recommend it. At least rent it before you buy it.

Ok, I'll admit, I was skeptical when I first picked this game up at the recommendation of the video rental guy when he told me it was the 'most underrated game of the year.' The game, however, turned out to be absolutely incredible - exceeding my expectations by double. I rented it twice and finally bought my own copy. The only reason I hesitate to give the game 5 stars, is that the view moves around the rooms too fast with little option for adjustment and tends to give a sense of dizziness and makes orientation difficult, especially in the dark. If you love puzzle games or haunted houses (or both) then this game is sure to keep your interest from level one. The puzzles in the rooms were oddly reminiscent of the PC game 'The Seventh Guest,' though considerably easier and less frightening.
