Schizm DVD please.

This game is being released primarily on DVD-ROM. In fact it was MADE for DVD-ROM. The CD-ROM version offered here for pre-order is very scaled down and not equal in quality. I am eagerly awaiting this game to come out...I would love to pre-order the DVD version of this game--if it were offered.

Schizm first impressions

This is going to be a great game! If you enjoyed Myst and Riven, you'll love this adventure. Be impressed by the graphics of the 2 avi files on www.p3int.com, as I did. 360ยบ, 2 characters controlled by you, a great story... this is SCHIZM.

Stunning but Tough

I have just finished reading a number of the reviews for Schizm and I cannot understand people complaining about the difficulty in solving some of the puzzles in this glorious game. Isn't that the point?

The graphics are beautiful. The story-line is good enough for an adventure game. The music and effects are on a par with the Myst Trilogy and the like. The added twist of having two main characters who must cooperate to accomplish some tasks is another nice touch.

I installed the CD-ROM version to my hard drive and the game played flawlessly. I did have a bit of trouble controlling the pan rate using the mouse, but soon discovered that the arrow keys provided a solution with the left and right arrows yielding a a 45 degree pan left or right, while the up and down arrows allowed a 180 degree switch (very useful when you realize you went the wrong way and simply want to turn around and go back.)

My only complaint would be the inability to terminate a video scene. While the videos are wonderful, deep into a game it would have been nice to be able to skip to the end... a small price to pay for a truly challenging game.

As good as the Myst series

I bought the DVD version from Dreamcatcher. It installed without problems, and there is no evidence of choppiness (at least so far). I'd say we're about two thirds of the way through.
The puzzles aren't easy - just about the right level, I think. Note to other reviewers: if you are trying to solve them by trial and error, it means that you either haven't actually solved the puzzle, or are still missing some information. Without giving anything away, I can think of at least two puzzles where the 'obvious' answer is not the correct one.
Another reviewer mentioned the multiple number schemes - you mean like decimal numbers and clock faces which count in twelves? Seems fairly natural to me.
Graphics are stunning, and the scene transitions are smooth and convincing.
One slight niggle - the rotation control was a bit too sensitive. Some means of adjustment would be nice.

Definitely worth buying

If it is challenging--it is worth the effort

I am a fan of the Myst series, and similar games that emphasize adventure and thoughtful exploration. I do not like mindlessly shooting pictures pictures of badguys and being shot at from behind a dark corner.
Schizm was extremely well thought out. Schizm involves solving a mystery, and in the process, figuring out an alien culture. There are very difficult situations, but all of them have solutions that are not hard if you let yourself understand the cultural setting. It teaches you to open your mind.
When you have finished Schizm, you will feel great and have learned to think better than before. It will be an amazing adventure along the way. Sure, this game requires some advanced thinking. We need games that are more difficult to go to afer we get the Myst, Riddle of the sphinx type games wired--otherwise, where is the challenge. If the game is not challenging, we stop getting better, and the game is just an exercise in pointing the cursor and clicking--just waiting for the graphics to stop so that we can click again---HOW BORING!!!
The acting in Schizm is definitly corny however, but rather than get stuck there, I enjoyed the remaining 98% of the show.

one of the better puzzle games

I read a few reviews for this game and it seems most of the people are wrong about the game. if you say it has bad graphics than you probably have a crappy computer. and it DOES offer 360 degree view of a highly detailed enviroment. i just recently beat the game and it has a failry interesting ending, not what i expected to happen. the puzzles are fun because they're so freakin' hard! it sounds like most of the reviewers are lazy gamers who dont like challeges and go for the run-in-and-shoot games. the graphics are like an old movie, very realistic for a game. just for the record, the game did NOT freeze or stall at all for the month it took me to beat. a very good game.

It out-MYSTs MYST

I played this game as a team with my husband some time back and I just completely fell in love with it. I had been disappointed with the decline of puzzle complexity in the MYST series after Riven and had never seen another game in the genre that had puzzles of that sort, until we heard some buzz about this one and tried it out. We LOVED it to pieces. Yes, it is hard, but that was what we loved - we felt that the challenge of the puzzles really worked us out and kept us hooked. It stands apart from any other game we've ever played in the Dreamcatcher line-up and I really look forward to trying its sequel.

I too would like to pre-order the DVD version. It looks like a wonderful game and I'm anxiously waiting. However, I'm not going to settle for the CD version.

I liked it. I used the full install option and the graphics were realistic, flowed from scene to scene flawlessly. No lag time at all. I needed a walkthrough for the "higer math" puzzles. For me this was a $$$ trip to another world that lasted better than a week. And the flying scenes are incredible. 5 stars and the programmers earned every one of them. Bring on the sequel.

Increadible, interesting and a food for you brain!

Great game! After the instaling I couldn't stop playing. 5 excellent CDs, 3D graphics, fast moving. Here you got not only simple puzzels, but real logic, geometry and math...you have to reveal it on your own, though!
Wonderful game!
