YOU MUST READ THIS FOR YOUR OWN SAFTY
it got 1 star only cus there where no - stars to choose!
Where to start? it's to bad i spent 44.99 + tax on this game. it has been one headake after another. it's only a matter of time before your game goes black screen and xp wants to send an error message. this is not xp fault it is the game. the game forgets to count down the weeks and then it freaks out. and you can't start from the auto save cus it will make error messages again. so you say to yourself I'll find an update and it will right it and i can have some fun for the money i dished out. nope, not going to happen. cus then you got to fully register with these guys and give them your hole life history before you can download the updates. so you go threw all of that to finaly get to play the game only to find out when you enter your name and password they say you have to create an account. so you cheak and sure enough you have an acount cus they mail you your name and password so you re- enter it even though you know you had it right to begian with and they tell you once again you have to create and account to download. so you take the time to create another account cus you want the patch and they come back and say you already have an account only one account for one email. so what do you do? you sit there stareing at this cardboard box that you shelled out 44.99 + tax for, wisheing you could get your hands on one of the people that created it. then you think hey thats not constructive if you want to resolve this problem your gona have to call or write or something. so you go back to their web site and click contact and it takes you to a pages that says you have to be loged in. and you think but i can't log in you _ _ _ _ _ _. so you go to your book that came with thew game.mmmmmmmm no teliphone numbers, smart on their part, got a problem? try and find us lol. so you sit there lookeing at this cardboard 44.99 + tax paper weight being bitter and confused thinking it might be a nice game, IF I COULD PLAY IT, wondering if you could bring a suite against them for mental anguish. but i'm just blabering now. on the good side it does look realy nice holding down my papers on my desk. and if i bought two more i could realy have some nice book ends.

Worthy successor to MOO2

This game is great fun, a must-have for any fan of the turn-based strategy genre. It is everything that Master of Orion 3 should have been..

so so game

This game is certainly updated with better AI, graphics and such. Unfortunately it moves like a snail and over time is kinda boring. I lost interest after a few hours. It doesn't hold the same entertainment value as the new RTS games. I wouldn't buy this game new

One more click

If you ever played Master of Orion 2 and was expected something better out of Master of Orion 3, then this is your game. Very bad about the "Next click" syndrome. Have to be careful with it because 20-30 minutes can easily become hours or even days.

tired and repackaged

This game is nothing more than Gal Civ I repackaged with (slightly) better graphic. It plays basically the same - you don't need the tutorials at all. If you played the first game you can play this right out of the box. It was a big disappointment. After four days of having the game, its now just click, click, *Yawn*, click, click, *Yawn*, click...

Nice but buggy

was a nice game but with a higher end system it was real buggy with a few lockups

Disappointed.

While the graphics are superb and it has the potential to be an awesome game, the internal workings are so obscure that the game was simply not fun.
In fairness I tried and tried it again and no matter what level of play I tried it was an hour long non-event that would climax in my utter destruction without explanation.
The lack of instruction (unless you count the biblically large instruction manual that seconds as an anesthetic) and the suprisingly intelligent enemy which will bypass all logical tactics to directly ruin your game make this game as fun as it is action packed.
Sorry, this had potential but will only disappoint.

Decent. But old ideas don't make a new game good.

I had been hoping for good things with Dread Lords. The older GalCiv, while not on the level of MOO2, was good enough and looked promising.

Sadly, my hopes were not answered. Don't get me wrong, Dread Lords is not a bad game. However, it is nothing special either. 10 years after MOO2 something more is demanded of 4x space strategy than what we got here. There's plenty of new options, but after playing it perhaps 40 hours and finishing the main campaign and a few random galaxies I sat with the impression that I could safely go back to Rome Total War without losing much sleep. A month later I discovered Sword of the Stars and Dread Lords made its way to the dustbin, where it has stayed until today and probably will remain.

Above average game

This game is ok. Lotta tech to research. Lotta differant ship designs and payload. But i like Star Trek Birth of the Federation better. The starports on this game dont protect the plants and that can get kinda annoying.

The Bottom Line

This game is without doubt the best turn based 4X game I have ever played. Allowing me to design and create my own ships with different weapons and defenses made a dream come true. The people behind this game, Stardock, are developing an odd reputation, because for some reason they actually care about their customers, many of these reviews were written nearly a year ago, and since that time the game has been pacthed and changed.

If you enjoy strategy games (turn based or RTS) and are not afraid of using your head, try this game out, there's a great demo out that can give you a taste.

I started with the purchase of this game, I then bought the expansion Dark Avatar, and because of the amount of support the company has shown me and their products I pre-ordered the second expansion Twilight of the Arnor and Sins of a Solar Empire. Now that Sins of a Solar Empire is out I can say that I will continue to pre-order Stardock Entertainment products as whatever team they have creating video games over there are clearly gamers themselves and put plenty of common sense into their games, which is a lot more than most companies can say.

Try the demo, see for yourself. I went for it, and have nothing but good things to say.
