Theres no significant difference between this and the n64 version. Controls are pretty much the same and the graphics aren't very impressive either. This is only worth it for the die hard perfect dark fan. If your just looking for a good game - save your money for a different release

When I purchased this game I had high hopes for it. I was a big fan of its two predecessors (Perfect Dark and Golden Eye, both on the N64). I was expecting this game to be similar and as much as fun as both those were.
I was very badly disappointed.
The biggest problem with this game its controls. The default sensitivities for the game had me running around like a wild monkey. I've never had to adjust the sensitivities in any game before. Even though I adjusted the sensitivities for movement and looking, I couldn't change the sensitivities for the triggers. If you want to fire your gun, you need to pull the trigger ALL the way in. It is very easy to forget to do this, and you stand around pointing your gun but never actually shooting. This is especially bad with pistols where you need to pull the trigger rapidly to fire rapidly.
In addition to the bad control setup, the new "features" hurt the game and should been excluded. One new feature is the ability to do a forward roll. Yes, very cool fun to watch and then it gets very annoying. I'm sorry, but I do not really enjoy playing a game in which my enemies are just somersaulting around.
Another new feature is the "cover" ability. Basically get in just the exact right spot, hit the A button and your character will take cover. This will take you out of the typical 1st person view, and allow you to see your enemies without being seen. You then pop-out and shoot the enemies and can duck back to reload. Yes, I will admit it is a handy feature, and is great in single player. However, in multiplayer it gives a huge advantage to those who play the game regularly. I purchased this game primarily because I enjoy battling my friends in multiplayer, some of played more than others. The advantage of playing a lot was not that significant. In Perfect Dark Zero, those of us who knew where all of the places to "cover" were dominated everybody else. Personally, I enjoy games where everybody stands a relatively equal chance of winning.
In addition to these main gripes, the guns do a pitiful amount of damage for the number of rounds they have. You cannot "aim" without zooming on guns with scopes. You cannot carry a horde of weapons. Yes, some people might see that as being realistic. I expected this to be a game where fun trumps realism. I expect games like Call of Duty 2 to have painful realism, not a multiplayer shooter you play with your friends, fun should come first.
This Game Sucks

For fans of ALIAS. This is one hell of a mediocre game. It's one of those games where you can get shot literally hundreds of times and not die... For dummies (gives you arrows on where to go if you get lost). The graphics and style are a bit cartoonish (there are windows media player visualizations in some parts). The music is lame. The story is lame. I have no emotional investment in the characters and don't care where the story is going. AI is basic. Weapons are very basic, other items lame (there is a door-opening scrambling device - could never figure the thing out). I don't see anything ingenuitive or original in the game whatsoever. And once again, as in many next-gen titles, it uses GRAB COVER. Not much positive to say about the thing. The hard case for the LE was very nice...I don't give it a 1, because there are far worse things out there. But I cannot for the life of me understand why this is a franchise. Not really impressed by it's production company either (RARE). Maybe this next-gen release is an upgrade visually from its predecessor in the franchise, but even compared to last-gen games like Halo, Half-Life2 or Doom3 produced years ago, it just doesn't measure up. It might make for a basic introduction into an FPS for a very young person that has never played one before.
where is HALO 3 ?? why are we given this wannabe title

well i got my x box 360( fully loaded) on the day one launch night i love it !!
i got pgr 3 and call of duty 2 which are awesome..i saw this game being displayed at my gamespot and i played it i was like wtf??!! this is a wanna be halo..i did not buy this though..i rented it im glad i did not get this title:) first of all the graphics are good and all thats a given..but the controles are slugglish and not fluid...it sometimes freezes up in gameplay or goes in slow motion which sucks..just like the matrix ...
i suggest you rent this game or buy it used down the road... the nintendo 64 game perfect dark played better however this is the vamped up version of that title but it still looks too cartoonish for my taste. i want realism in a shooter.. like the afore mentioned halo series(smiles)
and where is halo 3 you mught ask? well, all good things take time.. its on the way i already got my copy pre ordered .. master chief would pimp slap joanna dark..without ever breaking a sweat ! nuff said
kudos to microsoft on a great next gen system! it was well worth the wait, well until the playstation 3 comes out in the spring that is :) then the real fun begins..

I decided to pick up a used copy of this game up for a cool $8, thinking back to the good old days when I had a ton of fun with the original Perfect Dark on N64. Mistake. It is ridiculous to think that I could go back to the days when FPS games included enemies that moved erratically about the screen and entirely too fast, a ridiculously meaningless and poorly acted story, and a complete lack of clear objectives in-mission, and enjoy the game I was playing. Do yourself a favor, and go play just about anything else.
Not so 'perfect'...

I must respectfully disagree with the reviewer below me. I snagged this game last night on the assumption that it would push the power of my new 360 console. Sadly, Microsoft's 'flagship' title for the Xbox 360 offers not much new to the FPS genre, to include the purported 'revolutionary' graphics. I'm not knocking the game, it is enjoyable and the multiplayer action on Live is tremendous fun. I'm simply not seeing anything here that wouldn't have looked incredible on my old Xbox, much less a justification to buy a next-gen console.
Conclusion: If you're making PD0 the cornerstone of your arguement to buy a new Xbox 360 this weekend, I'd recommend another title that DOES showcase the abilities of this amazing machine, such as Call of Duty 2 or Kameo.
I hope this helps.
For the same time in my life I wish I had listened to the haters

This game controls pretty bad. The responsiveness is not what we have been accustomed to in the past years while playing the Halos, Quakes, Call of Duties, Farcry, Battlefields, Half Lives, Rainbow Sixes etc, etc. etc. The point is any good game has responsive controls and this one doesn't. I advise you to rent it and see for yourself, this game will make you appreciate what we now take for granted in shooters: Responsive controls. I can see I was not a lucky coincidence to find this game already used at my local games store. There was a good reason for the previous owner to trade it in. I will trade it in today for Call of Duty.
Stuck in the year 2000

As I play Perfect Dark Zero, I find myself disengaged. The characters are predictable, the missions are cliche, and the gameplay, while good, is nothing new. PDZ is visually stunning, but the gameplay hasn't advanced since the original, while the rest of the gaming world has.
Look at Call of Duty 2 for the X360. It's immersive, the AI is strong, you have squadmates along side you. You are part of a complicated environment that is really convincing. Your heart beats fast while you play and you feel a satisfying sense of accomplishment and relief when you finish a mission. PDZ falls far short of this.
Or consider GTA: San Andreas. Great mission storylines, cool quirky characters, and a gritty sense of reality that permiates the game. It's really well written. PDZ's storyline is worthless.
I thought this would be the killer-ap for the X360, but I was wrong. If you want a first-person shooter, Call of Duty 2 is a far better choice. Even Condemned: Criminal Origins, while flawed, offers more original and interesting gameplay. While Perfect Dark Zero is beautiful, it's stuck in the year 2000. A RARE miss.
